  1. just seen the most enormous wasp/hornet insect on the bush in the front plant border!.....half the size of my thumb with bright yellow head with big compound eyes, with black and orange stripes...flew off before I could get the camera/wasp spray!.......I hope it wasn't one of those asian hornets!

      Compared the pic in the local paper of an 'Asian hornet' to those of a wood wasp. Thankfully just a wood wasp *phew*

      Indeed - there was a big article in the Daily Mirror (what a quality newspaper, ahem!!) banging on about the first sighting of an asian hornet, when its actually a wood wasp...admittedly I was fooled but I didnt publish a nationwide full article on it, lol
