  1. Just watched News 24 weather report (6.30pm) Susan Powell I think her name is (?) And I couldn't believe my eyes, almost no snow anywhere but the very far SE of Eng. shown for Monday ! Doesn't match what folks are saying/reading on NW . Hope it changes back later on the BBC . BL
  2. Yes, my husband works in Kingston upon Hull, and we're often comparing weather over just that c.15 mile difference from home. I'm sure we'll be disappointed if it turns to sleet/rain as soon as the next day. We'll see. Thanks for the ongoing analysis you more knowledgeable folks. BL.
  3. That's ok Butler Son, just trying to keep that horrible name out of use these days. Yes, I'm supposing we'll get a decent innings with this snow. Hope we all do ! Cheers, BL.
  4. Many thanks .. most of us celebrated the demise of 'Humberside' back in 1996. I've had two falls and settlings of snow so far this winter. Today it's blue sky and 4º C but nithering in the strong wind now. Looking forward to seeing what the next few days deliver. Cheers, BL.
  5. Wow Debs, they're very impressive icicles ! Thanks for sharing them. Great pics. Lovely to see all these photo entries. BL
  6. Another lovely set of photos there MeteoMadrid. I especially love the forest/river ones. Very pretty. Thanks for sharing. BL.
  7. Oh wow, were the light columns directly above some street lights Mr Data ? BL
  8. These strange coloured columns of light have been seen in Latvia and across Europe during these cold weeks. Maybe due to the urban lights reflecting on suspended ice crystals in the air it says here .. (more pics too) http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/...ight-skies.html Something else I've never seen before. Looks pretty and a bit spooky, lol BL
  9. "Ice circles are known to appear in the Arctic, Scandinavia and Canada, but this is thought to be the first seen in Britain. They occur at bends in the river where the accelerating water creates a force called 'rotational shear', which breaks off a chunk of ice and twists it around. As the disc rotates, it grinds against surrounding ice - smoothing into a perfect circle." This is a few lines from the paper article about how they come to be. This 10' one in Devon was rotating 360º every 4 mins, 10 secs. BL
  10. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11...aters-time.html From the online Mail paper. A perfect 10' circle of ice in the River Otter. I'd never heard of such a thing. BL
  11. Looking again .. the original 'red umbrella pic' that we all have praised is no longer there (for me anyway) Maybe you are now protecting your image and will be using it as a card or to sell ? BL
  12. The frozen waterfall is gorgeous to see Lovely set of icy pics. Cheers. BL
  13. I think the heavy falling snow one with the red umbrella would make a fab Xmas card BL
  14. I'm looking forward to having a look for this when it's at it's best. Cheers. BL
  15. Very pretty snowy scenes there, thanks for showing us them. BL
  16. It was -4ºC overnight here and it's -2ºC as I type. Just before the change to much milder weather and I found it the coldest yet this winter on my walk. A white frost and rather bone aching ! BL
  17. Super pics OON, great to see. I'll look out for your 2 seconds of fame on the BBC then ... that's if you're going National .. Cheers, BL
  18. Just peeped out to see the roads all white and the finest snow falling. Brrrr. BL
  19. Lovely scenic set of pics, thank you. I've only visited in the summer myself. BL :o
  20. There's an even better pic from today's Mail of the tree of icicles in Skelmersdale, Lancs. * looks 100% real to me ! http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11...cicle-tree.html and a series of other pretty frosty/snowy scenes from around the country. BL
  21. Hi all, Just seen this photo in the online Mail paper. An icicle sculpture in the trees made by passing cars splashing up a large puddle. Thought it was unusual in it's scale and pretty to see. BL
