  1. Probably at its strongest in last hour. A fierce storm, though once again nothing I haven't seen many times before on the coast, though the outcome will be worse than usual because of the trees being in full leaf.

It is certainly worse than I have seen in Bognor apart from '87 but then I am really close to the sea, Drayton is quite a bit inland although you must catch the wind as it is on a bit of a hill if I remember correctly.

  2. The wind  is the strongest I have known apart from '87 and goodness knows what gusts we had then. The garden gate we carefully repaired and made safe is now blown ope but no way will I go out to check the damage yet. neighbours greenhouse has blown across their garden and I am totally amazed that having had gusts up to 70knots/80.55mph that my cherry tree and apple tree are still standing and taking the punishment, the cherry is bending almost double and of course apples are everywhere. A force 12 gust on land here was something I just didn't bargain for. A really good call from the METO and I am so very thankfully i listened to the warnings and not to the sceptical northerners who were on here yesterday night!!!!!!! Can't wait for daylight to inspect the damage but no way will I go out until the wind is down to a Force 7

Thankfully looking at CHIMET is seems it was that massive gust that woke me and no things are starting to calm a little.

  5. I am going to try and sleep, still 70+ and noisy here, did drop but back a little but just as strong as ever now.

    Regards...Zzzzzzzzzz

Don't reckon I will sleep even though I am trying as the wind is blowing directly at my bedroom window as if it hates me! Thank goodness for double glazing but even that can't keep the noise out. I promise never to complain about the neighbours noisy garden parties again! :)

Still at least it hasn't got any worse in the past hour. Going to try ear plugs now.

now we can see where the low was clearly at 0100

now this is where we wait to see how quick it gets going due to the jet

    and how quick it bombs

as it moves north east i see it clearing just to the north of yarmouth

the isobars will really tighten as it moves across the uk

Is the worst still to come for the coast in Sussex or is the worst over. I hope the later. :(

  7. Hi and thanks mate, it was quite bad at the time half the house was blown in and the roof was badly de-slated so the neighbors say and the brickwork tells, quite exciting really, but rather it stayed a sedate 90 than the 120 that nightPosted Image Take care.

I will be thinking of you as this gets worse. Daughter is closer to the seafront than me and now has no electricity as water has penetrated the roof of flat above and is running into their electric supply and also the flat below. Not fun but i think they will be in a better position than the people above them.

  8. The house that I am in at the moment was badly damaged in 87 it had the gable end blown in to the house, new brickwork is in metric..., it took over 100 mph to do that, it did 120 plus at the Needles that night.

At the moment its gusting around 50 but it has been around 70, just down the road from here its done 83 at the needles.

looks like 90 is on then, I think.

Hi Rusty, keep safe and I hope you don't get the 90 gusts, not hopeful you wont though. Posted Image

  9. I am starting to get nervous now, i seriously wish anyone wishing for severe winds was here to experience it in person. maybe they wouldn't be quite so enthusiastic. Damage already occurring round here and after experiencing the '87 storm I am getting very nervous now. It isn't the fun some people think!

Sustained winds already of 49mph  and pressure dropping with every update, so strange it keeps getting warmer too. 15.4C now.

The Met office say the #ukstorm cld last longer than thought up until midday. No trains to the airports. Southern airports may have to close

Following on from what Sky is saying is there something we don't know?

the media in the uk are pathetic with their over dramatic headlines.

Wait a while, it is coming your way, already getting worrying here. I can already hear the roof tiles lifting and clattering in the gusts.

  11. Air temp and winds now rising, pressure dropping.

Since I posted the above all hell is letting loose outside already gusting to 50Knots and extremely heavy rain.

Daughter who lives a quarter mile away has just rung to say they have tiles off of the roof allowing water into the flat above and running down into their flat, right onto their electrical supply!!! now had to turn their electricity off because of the danger of fire. They are one street away from the beach so really catch the wind!
