The morning was decent enough, the afternoon descended into a cloudy affair with showers.
Aaargh, clouds having affairs with showers! Whatever next!
It has been dry all day here but of course being on the coast the wind is rising a bit now. But for the Central South Coast this will be nothing more than a normal autumn gale.

Wrong type of leaves on the tracks..
Definitely wrong type of leaves on the track. The sort of leaves that are still attached to the trees.

Wind showing on CHMET very light, F2 gusting F3, very unusual to have it this quiet and still on the coast. Calm before the storm definitely!

A webcam in Bognor so you can see tomorrows weather here. I personally doubt we will get severe wind but expect lots of rain. Please!

Fair points bluebreezer. Although at a chilli festival today and was surprised to hear many stall owners say that they were going to prob pack up tonight as didn't wish to risk it. That was because of what a fair few visitors were saying. So I do wonder if many out there are taking heed to change family places tomorrow. I suspect the indoor swimming pool near me will be busy tomorrow ! Lol.
High PB, hope you are keeping well.
Was the Chilli festival at West Dean Gardens by any chance? Net weather 7 day forecast is only showing a maximum of 38mph wind here which is most likely only to be a gust not sustained wind I reckon. We do look to be getting many hours of heavy rain though which pleases me as we so badly need it in Bognor Regis. Grass was getting way too brown.

Bertha getting close, looks a bit more organised at 2pm

The cirrus is spreading in from the west here now.
A lot of high cloud also over the coast here which appears to me to be the forerunner of this storm. Still very bright at the moment though.
Hanging baskets now in the greenhouse and any really nice blooms in the garden have been picked and making a lovely show in the house.
Thanks for my bouquets Big Bertha.

I think if you don't want wind, you might be not too happy as they're going to be quite strong especially down here.
Hi William, as I edited above, I am only looking at my area and based on the METO fax charts. I am aware that other charts are showing a different track. I think this one will certainly be a 'wait and see' situation.
Personally the last thing I want is wind because my pear tree has a mass of fruit and also I have an apple tree and I so hate picking up damaged unripe fruit!! If this was autumn I would be hoping for a full scale storm as I love strong winds and wild weather.

It seems that the BBC are saying just blustery with rain being the main feature, others on this forum saying otherwise.... So basically no one knows Also I have family who are flying in Sunday evening to Gatwick, what do the reckon the winds will be like here on Sunday???Thanks in advance for the help
If the METO FAX comes off then Gatwick shouldn't be too badly affected. I personally think the rain will be the worst feature of this low and not the winds. That could be wishful thinking though. We need the rain down here but no-one needs strong winds with the trees in full leaf.
My only preparations will be to take my hanging baskets down for a day. Certainly not likely to be a storm in my opinion but then it shouldn't be in August.
Edit, my comments above are only my view of what will be the case in the very South of the country, maybe worse for other areas though.

Without running the risk of scare mongering, don't get too relaxed. The ECM doesn't take the track further north. The GFS mean still shows 50 to 60mph gusts around the Cornwall/Devon coasts and in to Wales. I would keep a close eye on the forecasts.
Well here in the middle of the South Coast I am hoping we get the rain and not the strong winds. The rain is very badly needed as we have had almost nothing since early June and the grass is a lovely shade of Khaki! Thankfully we are getting a steady gentle rain at the moment. Anyone else is welcome to the winds, please take them with my compliments!!! I have finally had my gate repaired by the landlord after it was torn off it's hinges in the February and March storms and my flowers are flourishing after having watered them 3 times a week for what seems like forever. Getting too old for all these watering cans!

Keep hearing lots of sirens around too
Probably fire crews going to Brighton as they have had flash flooding and are pumping out a few basements it seems. Also trains delayed half an hour after lightning struck something on the railway
-
they developed right overhead around 5am..its been endless since about then
I woke up around 5:ooam but I was actually feeling cold!!! First time for a few months!
I can see your storm, and hear it but is is still just to the east of me. It seems very slow moving but is definitely getting bigger looking at the radar.
-
The whole storm went that way!---------------------------------------------------------------->
Yep, it's all gone east not gone west!

Do U think we'll see any? Estofex said that the uk would get the tail end of this between midnight and six the timings a bit off but Surely it's all died out!?
Sorry if you are hoping it has died out but no, it is still building over France and may even continue to do so into tomorrow!

Well nothing is coming my way now for hours. As last night's severe storms kept me awake until 3:00am I am off for some shut-eye and hoping I will be woken by some action later in the night, or more likely early morning. Night all!

are the storms going to miss sussex?
Unless the wind changes direction I would say yes! It missed here by about 15 miles!

Looking at French lightning detector there is plenty yet to come up from Spain and France!
Sorry wrong link. Should be this one (I hope!)

Got hail falling here now, and not small either.
Not surprised and looking at the Netweather detector

Enjoy your holiday snowlady!
The rain seems to be developing on the radar actually in the Channel close to France so a chance that may turn thundery as it comes across. Fingers crossed anyway.

That's is literally skimming me right now! Is there more to come? Please say no
There will definitely be more tonight and tomorrow but just now there will be a gap.
-
Just saw a flash of lightning on the Bognor cam and hear the thunder. It is far to the east though!
-
For anyone interested in a Webcam on the South Coast this is a good one at Bognor Regis as it has sound as well as live streaming video.
http://www.bognorregisbeach.co.uk/live
In fact just watching and listening I can still hear the odd thunder rumble on it whereas where I live half a mile from the beach I can no longer hear it.
-
Interesting as usually planes from Gatwick to the continent fly out across Worthing and come back across I.O.W and Portsmouth. Obviously diverted because of the storm I can see from my back window. I have heard quite a few rumbles but a bit too far east for Bognor to get this lot. later tonight I am hoping it may be as good as last night when we initially had lightning flashes on an average of every 3 seconds
-
Lightning now visible on the dawlish beach webcam http://www.dawlishbeach.com/live/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=18
I thought it would be just an odd flash but that is pretty constant lightning! Thanks for the link, probably all i may see!

A lot of activity in the Channel and moving off Northern France. One batch has Dorset's name on it for starters and the others further south look to be heading slightly NNE. I decided not to drive out south, at least not yet...
Yes, it looks like once again it will split before it hits Bognor and pass either side of us. Bournemouth looks to be in the firing line for some of the fun though.
And first strike for the I.O.W.
Possible storm/wind event - 9th December onwards

Overreactions, gusts of 50 to 60mph are a normal winter storm.
