Wet snow now begining to lay on grass, bin lids and cars. Dog just been out for a wee - didn't think a lot of it. Now hunkered on settee giving me the 'where's my dinner?' look.
Wet sleety snow here in Thornton at 50m ASL. None laying but bitter out in the wind.
Out with dog on the beach at Kirkcaldy earlier, load of fresh driftwood and other debris on the high spring tide line. Strong Easterly winds and waves stripping even more sand off the beach at Seafield with bare bedrock showing in several places that are normally covered.
Fairly hammering down now.
Can't really help but ouch! Looked online and some of the charges, even with discount, would make Dick Turpin blush.
We are so fortunate, free fairly local Park and Ride for up to a fortnight and with the wrinklies bus pass a free ride to and from the front door of Edinburgh Airport. Service runs at 20 min intervals from 6am to midnight.
Quite Interesting✔@qikipedia
Word of the day: GLUGGAVEÐUR (Icelandic) - Weather that looks lovely from inside your house, but is horrible to be outside in. Literally 'window-weather'.
Thought I would share
Waves have been ferocious on the Forth. A lot of erosion and sand stripped from the beaches with debris, dead birds, fish, octopus etc on the strand line. High spring tide is this pm so even more damage expected.
Another heavy shower of polystyrene with some penny flakes thrown in. Paths are covered and the grass is disappearing. Dog still curled up on the bed.
Why am I up?
Edit: horizontal snow now, wild swirly stuff.
My local weather forecaster, brown, furry, four legs, dog shaped has just barked to come in, plonked himself on the setee and is giving me that wtf look!
Road into Thornton from Kirkcaldy was flooded last night. Woke this morning to frost and bright sunshine. Feels pleasant in the garden and already a little warmth in the sun.
Hope it lasts.
Early rain turned to sleet now turning to sloppy wet sticky snow. Cars starting to get covered but cleared road and paths ok.
We are only 60m asl or thereby and just a few miles from the coast. This is insane for March.
Rain through most of the night and still on. What's left of the snow is grey, brown and slushy. Dog staring out the window looking miserable.
A day for going back to bed (I wish)
Rain all afternoon and still blowing through. Melting snow sucking the warmth out of everything. Pools of wet sloppy slush along every roadside.
I really hate a fast thaw!
Wet sleety snow on and off all morning here. Managed to take dog out in the car for a run down to the beach. Roads clear enough but some good drifts at the roadside.
Sand has been stripped off part of Seafield beach with huge slabs of rock broken off and moved, also a lot of damage done to fences and walkways at Pathhead in Kirkcaldy.
Must have been quite a storm surge and waves. Tide was well out when we were down but still some wild surf even with the wind having dropped a bit.
Stay safe folks!
Following the euphoria during the recent snowstorms, I've spent the best part of 4 hours shovelling 4" of compacted snow today just to get access from the front to the back of the house.
The novelty of March snow is now begining to wear a bit thin.
We seem to have a wee bit thaw on at the moment, wind is still drifting stuff about though.
Road though village clear but yucky slush piles at the side of the road.
