  1. After a gorgeous day here yesterday and temperatures reaching late teens for the most part, this morning is pretty awful. Persistent light rain or drizzle with lots of low cloud. Wondering how long this will take to burn off.... My head says by lunchtime, although im not totally confident!
  2. absolutely, pretty nasty here right now, definitely windier than friday for these parts!
  3. I think accumulations are a bit of a dream today unless you have elevation. Unsurprisingly just rain around here
  4. You can do this Nick, life of a forecaster! Nothing too notable in Bham City Centre today, I think 54 being shown on that map was about the very peak of conditions and maybe 40mph gusts for an hour, but certainly nothing like I expected. That said, it was a very potent storm in many areas and as other midlanders have shown, massive local variation across the board! Was fascinating seeing all the reports come through today despite my nervousness. Was actually super intriguing to see how it played out, couldn’t take my eyes off it for a second as extreme weather in the south of UK especially can be a real novelty.
  5. Interesting, how much support for this? I suspect wintry mix at best unless you’re in the shropshire hills
  6. Things are much calmer in the city centre now, nowhere near as bad as feared here. Not undermining things at all as I know some parts were badly affected in the region
  7. Is the Midlands doing a classic Midlands thing today (aka avoiding the brunt of this). I feel bad advising my missus not to fly home to Eastern Europe this afternoon from BHX, she absolutely could have
  8. Agree with the model praise, kudos to calling this and with incredible agreement. Not as bad as feared here but dangerously windy in a number of places!
  9. All my colleagues are enjoying copious amounts of snow (office is in Banchory and everyone lives between aboyne and westhill) and it’s raining in Birmingham. Jealous may well be the word
  10. pretty breezy in brum, although as it stands, perhaps not quite as bad as feared!
  11. Does seem a bit more hit and miss for south wales anyway? In b’ham we’ve got around 40mph gusts at times, will be interesting to see where we peak!
  12. Real pick up in gusts here, 40/45mph at times I would say! Still think 60 for a time later, couple of hours this afternoon. Let’s see
  13. Certainly looks like altitude and distance from the coast really are the big factors here! 100m plus should be primed north of say Stirling
  14. Tend to agree here, a blanket amber warning has been in place and there was uncertainty (and still is) over where would exactly get those 80+ gusts!
  15. I’m sure the coastal road via Arbroath is a safe bet. I’ve done the cairn road past couple of weeks but almost certainly will be plastered tomorrow. Stonehaven to Banchory should be fine probably!
  16. I hear ya! I reckon an hour or so of 65mph winds around Bham city centre is where we’ll peak, same for walsall. But 3-4 hours of 60 is fairly likely now. Keep in and stay safe!
  17. Absolutely nothing like that all anyway, fair play if you want 70/80mph gusts. It’s just a logistical worry without any joy really. Trees, cars, numerous concerns with threat to safety. The one positive is the waves will be quite something around the coasts and an excellent photo opportunity. But no threat of that in the west mids!
  18. Wow! That’s very high indeed, didn’t realise we were seeing gusts of that magnitude in the west mids. Was pretty breezy though!
  19. Spot on. It’s a double whammy, horrendous winds and not a flake in sight! Just really hoping the morning runs show a bit of a reduction
  20. Literally trying to convince the girlfriend to go up to galashiels or moffat tomorrow night just to see some friggin snow and avoid this carnage. Have i lost it
  21. Cant help but bemoan my luck when just last week i was in the north of scotland, now im back in the midlands and all we have is naff strong winds but no snow! Whilst it looks like inland areas with elevation will do very well out of this.
  22. Me too mate, nothing exciting about it, if anything just making me miserable!
