  1. We seem to have missed the worst of the weather yesterday evening, still bits and pieces of rain in a gusty wind but nothing like further north and east in the Region. A better start today (not saying much), although we had a light shower an hour ago and still partly cloudy. Hopefully the forecast improvement will continue.
  2. Forecast was spot on. Cheshire was a place to be for thunder and lightning early (6am) before it quickly moved away south, with very gusty winds in its place.
  3. Cheshire Freeze me too. 6.15am. I thought it was the bins moving around in the wind but then I saw a flash of lightning and one further rumble of thunder. Forecast was obviously spot on. Brightened up now but a gusty wind and more showers forecast for this part of the Region later.
  4. I couldn't moan about the weather we had yesterday for a family day in London, gorgeous throughout the day.
  5. Had a family day in London yesterday. Left Crewe in light rain and returned with a passing shower, but the weather further south was gorgeous for which we were so pleased. Today started bright and quite chilly, but cloud building up now and I suspect we may have a shower or two later.
  6. This was Pickering in North Yorkshire on the morning of 2nd August 2002 after 115mm of rain fell at nearby Fylingdales on the North Yorkshire moors in the previous 24 hours
  7. I don't think last night's rain could have amounted to much here and another dry and bright start to the day today. Let's hope it continues and the washing dries outside for the first time this year.
  8. Yes, not wall-to-wall sunshine by any means but a very pleasant day nevertheless.
  9. The dry bright and warm weather seems to have arrived in this part of the Region after overnight rain, but how long will it last here I wonder?
  10. I'm coming to London for a family day on Saturday and hoping for a lot better than we've been having here over the past two days. Dry feet would be good for a start!
  11. Dry start and Crewe Alex won 1 0 at Morecambe last night to stay in the hunt for the playoffs. That's the good news.....
  12. Not sure whether it's this storm and / or the after-effects of Katherine, but a combination of high tides, wind and rain have resulted in some pretty devastating floods in and around Shoreham, Littlehampton and Cowes (IOW), as shown on the news tonight.
  13. Yes, the wind has been a feature since the rain cleared here early afternoon, so my apologies earlier for questioning the yellow warning for wind rather than rain, although a rain warning would probably have been justified as well. Piece on the N W News a few days ago about Colne FC having to play 10 games in 14 days because of the waterlogged pitches at games they were due to play. I wonder whether that is still the situation, or possibly worse rather than better. I see Barrow FC's game has been called off tonight due to a waterlogged pitch, and this could cause problems as the home side are still in the running for a playoff spot in League 2 and I think they now have five fixtures to complete in two weeks. No such problems in tonight's Champions League games I imagine!
  14. A bit surprised that the current yellow weather warning within the Region is for wind rather than rain. Patio and back garden are waterlogged again and rain since 7am has been relentless and often heavy.
  15. No chance here of seeing even the tiniest bit of an eclipse in about an hour's time. Why? Do I need to say?!
  16. Chris.R no such luck here, a bit of quite warm sun late morning but has disappeared now in favour of total cloud cover.
  17. Dry at the moment but evidence underfoot of yet more rain overnight, confirmed by Mrs FLT who had to leave before daybreak. So terribly wet on the ground and going to need a few completely rain-free days to start drying things out, and this seems unlikely in this Region before the weekend if last night's Countryfile forecast for the week ahead is to be believed.
  18. A poor day and rain didn't really stop until 5pm, with a gusty wind adding to the unpleasantness.
  19. Looking at the sunshine figures for London from 1900 to 1964, the top year for sunshine was 1959 with 1852 hours, and 1949 had 11 out of 12 months (bar March) with above average sunshine, whilst both 1906 and 1933 had over1700 hours of sunshine. (Brazell)
  20. Seemed as though a squall line passed through at 7am with very heavy rain and driving wind. Frequent blustery showers since, interspersed with a few glimpses of the sun and no let up in the wind
  21. Warm and windy this morning, as forecast, but little sign of any sun at the moment which would certainly raise the temperatures even further.
  22. I know it's not a year ending in 12, but split 1912 and 2012 and you get 1962 which had a maximum temperature in London of just 25C, 77F, on the 9th June, the lowest maximum temperature of any year in the 20th century
  23. We were dry until middle day after which it has been glimpses of sun and frequent showers blowing in the wind which has picked up during the day.
  24. Damp and blowy yesterday as I left the NY coast and moors but improved as I headed through the Vale of York and across to the Pennines and home. Back in a couple of weeks.
