  1. Well we've had a few snow showers, nothing really of note, nothing stuck around long enough or even long enough shwers of snow to stay around really, but you never know, maybe Saturday may yeild something for me!
  2. According to the lates PPN charts, I should be having something, yet nothing is falling from the heavens!
  3. I can probably write Preston off for snow? for the two years I've lived here now, no snow, this is why University should be back home!
  4. Yea, Im going on the 12th of Jan to Alpe D'huez, its looking pretty damn good for me now, I've jsut gotta keep an eye on the avalance risk, and there are 42 of us going so we've gotta keep everybody safe, but as its looking now, we shud have some nice runs, and hopefully most of the runs will be open.
  5. Looks like there is some heading for the Alps from the 2nd of Jan and could be around as long as 2 weeks, leading to avalanche risks, but non-the less a lot of snow that is needed!
  6. Looks like theres some nice percip on the way for parts of the French Alps by next weekend! Hope so!
  7. Thats a great site, thanks! I've got just over 3 weeks until I hit the slopes, thankfully Alpe D'huez has snow, but I would like it to have plenty more, c'mon winter get you butt in gear!
  8. Thanks for the pic John! Makes me want to go right now! Alpe Dhuez is currently at -11C at 2000ish meters, (I can't remember the actual height at where the webcam is based, lol) 95cm up at 3000m 60cm lower down. More snow expected today and overnight, I hope we get no warm fronts and we keep the snow that is there, it will provide a very good base for the rest of the winter.
  9. The French Alps finally seem to be getting somewhere now, quite a bit of snow expected over tonight and the following couple of days, I've gotta hope that it all doesnt melt away. If the pattern change that looks possible for us in the UK occurs, we may open the flood gate to some cold on the continant, that will actually stick around!
  10. The current snow level at 1860m on Alpe Dhuez is now 20cm. With Quite a bit more due this coming Friday. Up at the top at 3300 its now pushung 90cm, Im jsut hoping its going to stick around long enough for another nice dump and really start packing this in. I just hope we don't get rain <_<
  11. Alpe Dhuez is getting a real pasting today! It's looking good for getting some base snow down, I dont know how long it will last for, hopefully this might stick around, and not melt, be about time to get a good base really, then build on top of it, lets hope so! Update: 80cm at 3330m The webcam is situated at around 2000m and thats is a whiteout at the moment, its a pitty we're going to have to wait until the morning to get a good view of it there, although the weather could be sticking around for a few more days yet!
  12. Some snow today up on Alpe Dhuez, not a huge lot looking at it, but at least theres a bit! lol B)
  13. Hi again guys, been missing for much of the day on here lol, but glad to see this threads got people talking! and thanks for all the info! John HCI means Human Computer Interaction, lol, I work with it a lot at Uni, its basically how websites (well general computer realated stuff, lol) interact with the users, how things are layed out, colour coordinated etc, some websites are really poor for this, just thought I'd let you know! Yea, Im actually going on the 15th of Jan, Im hoping that winters got in to gear and we've got some nice levels of snow compacted down and some nice fresh powder. There is supposed to be a dusting I think at some point this week, what will last of it, we'll have to see!! I don't know how many of you do ski or do board, but have you realised how many times your board gets run over by skiiers, and poked witht their sticks, lol, just thought I'd point that out after a very friendly French geezer nicely skiied straight over my nice new board and the bottom of Palafour in Le Lac last Season, nice of hime, I have a nice scratch there too this day! lol Snow Man
  14. Yea cheers John, I have used that before, its not the best of websites for HCI, it doesnt really explain much, lol, and it makes me sad when I look at the Webcam, haha, heres hoping theres a dumping there soon!!! Cheers
  15. Thanks guys! yea, its not really been a good start to from what I've seen, Tignes has had a decent snowfall, and a couple of pistes are open, but the majority don't open untill December anyway, I dont think there'll be much skiing going on unless something changes soon, lol, although I myself am a snowboarder, (I class myself at a higher level as skiiers, lol, if you would like to know why just ask, lol) but Im going on Jan 14th there will be snow by then, I just hope a nice decent ammount, and we get some powder. The trouble about looking for local forcasts is that they are in French! lol, I do know quite a bit of french but not too much, lol. I'm trying to learn more though, so it might help actually using those sites! lol. Again Thanks Snow Man
  16. Hi everybody, its been a while since I last posted, probly March time I reckon, but its coming up to that time again where, hopefully, we shall start getting some snow here , we'll see!! Anyway, I was having a look around the messageboards for any threads about the current and future weather happening in the Alps. I am going to the French Alps (Alpe 'Dhuez to be precise) and things haven't really kicked off there yet, so I would like to start this thread for anybody to give me and anybody who's interested updates, forecasts etc on what is happening. Cheers Snow Man
  17. Snowing now here in Shaw, newr Oldham. A dusting at the moment but there is a clup of PPN coming for us at the moments unless it breaks up snowing as I type this, althhough the northwest is going to be dry and clear accordin the the BBC weatherforecast so I'm glad theyre wrong!!!
  18. Hi All! Its been a while since I've been on here, hope evrybody is well, I've been mulling over these threads for a couple of weeks now, some very interesting reads. Things certainly do look interesting for the coming months leading up to Winter although those down south are still getting some remarkable temps for this time of year, it is gradually cooling down here, and hopefull y it will carry on to do so, although it looks as if it could be warming up again next week  lol, what we need is some heavy rain to stave off the drought in the south, it isn't bad at all up here, and some much cooler temps. Winter looks very interesting indeed and I'm glad to be along for the ride Regards
  19. Blizzard like conditions for a time here around 11:00, I couldn't see where I was going it was that heavy, gave a covering of around and inch or so, on top of the two inches we had. It carried on snowing to around 12:35 it is now threatening to rain I think, although the sun is shining, but I feel the snow wont be here for long!
  20. Some quite heafty snow showers here, we had some last night which melted away, and then through the night, it must have been too wet to stick at first as on all the cars, trees, walls etc its about 2inches deep or so, on the pavements totting up to a cm, and on the road it looks quite daunting, the last heavy snow shower caused a covering which is now turning slushy due to the sheer volume of traffic, have a safe journey wherever you are and take care. It looks as if theres more snow to come for me, but then a return to milder air turning it back to rain, just glad to see some more snow at long last!
  21. It was snowing here 8 this morning, nothing really of note, gave us a slight dusting, this soon melted away, around 10:45 snowed rather heavily, on and off, it then snowed very heavily for around three quaters of an hour giving a good covering, about 3cms of snow fell, very nice surprise indeed, it stopped snowing around 2:30 it is now beggining to turn rather slushy because of the ammount of people walking on it, very nice though indeed, especially walking around christmas shopping, felt very festive indeed!
  22. Absolutly nothing here, how about getting some pictures for us, sounds ver exciting indeed!
  23. Hi J Newsome, it was around 3 o'clock this afternoon! It looks possible we could get a couple of snow showers between now and Sunday.
  24. Heavy Hail storm turned it to some heavy snow for around 20 mins, didn't settle though because of the wet conditions.
