  1. Cold wet start to the day, typical given I've still 3 bags of firewood to move and dump into the wood shed. Currently 2C windy and cold rain.
  2. Graft abandoned - to cold to be messing about outside. That snowshovel hasn't seen active service since 2011.
  3. Sunny intervals and feeling cool at 4C. Hopefully make a dent in this lot before darkness sets in.
  4. I hit up Tescos Inverurie at 6an, the store is deserted. No C19 so far.
  5. No snow but we do have a snowplough doing the rounds locally. Met forecast is for another dry chilly night.
  6. While NE Scotland basked in sunshine during February:
  7. A few hours of heavy rain this afternoon made a welcome change. Still feeling cold, currently 4C . Throw in the wind and the real feel is 0C.
  8. Landed lucky with the weather this morning - Bright, dry and 7C. One of the firewood sheds needs restocked - 20m3. Farmer duly arrived at 6am and dropped the first load. A mixture of beech and ash hardwood, fully seasoned and ready to burn. I divide the shed into 3 sections using 2 divider rows. Once the rows are waist height, through logs behind them. Then rinse and repeat until the rows are at max height. Super fast way and it allows air to circulate much better than stacking completely. Going to take a while to fill the shed....
  9. Cloudy, southerly wind and 9C. First morning in a week that the car didn't need deiced. Upstairs windows have been open all afternoon to let fresh air in.
  10. Still cold enough early morning to keep the winter tyres on. The return journey around 3pm is a different story. Aberdeen's been up to 10C this week, but once past Elrick, the temperatures fall away. 8C while driving past Sauchen around lunchtime today, once you drop down into the vale of Alford, a bit cooler at 6C. Currently sat outside enjoying coffee in the sun.
  11. Similar to winter 2013/14 when the snow was almost exclusively confined to the Scottish mountains.
  12. Another cold start -4C. Snowploughs out gritting the roads on the commute this morning. Snow expected early tomorrow.
  13. Colder on the commute today. -4C at the house, -5C and light snow between Dunecht and Elrick. Sun starting to rise in Aberdeen, another bright sunny day on the cards.
  14. Astonishing that -10.3C was the lowest temperature for winter 2019/20.
  15. First day of Spring and a decent start. Sunny, calm and chilly at 3C. Hours of sunshine this afternoon if the forecast holds. Days are definitely feeling longer, it wasnt dark here until after 6pm last night. Farewell Winter 2019/20, you wont be missed!
  16. The final day of winter and it's a bit crap. Wet, dull and cool.
  17. Heightened avalanche risk in Scotland's mountains WWW.BBC.CO.UK After mild weather and little snow, more familiar winter conditions are being experienced in the hills.
  18. Temperature has fallen to 0C. Big fat flakes and its starting to settle.
  19. A mixture of sleet and snow at present. Feet up, stove on.
  20. Currently rain and 2C. Expected to turn to sleet then snow later today. Tomorrow morning looks very wet. Mondays snow is still holding on, the surrounding hills are much whiter.
  21. Theres a good coffee shop in Braemar. Wood burning stove and great cakes. The perfect warm up if you've been up to Glenshee. As others have mentioned, upper Deeside is picture postcard stuff, especially during Autumn and Winter. Consider driving the notorious Cockbridge to Tomintoul road. Stunning scenery Enjoy your trip!
  22. The house sits at 165 mts asl and theres a couple of inches in the garden. Tillyfourie is around 200 mts asl and the snow is a deeper up there. If memory serves, this could be the heaviest snowfall since 2018.
  23. Definitely tricky driving as Ravelin mentioned. Here's a video of the Aberdeen to Alford road around Tillyfourie. Slightly further on, the X5 with winter alloys and tyres slid into the oncoming lane. Speed was around 20mph and thankfully no oncoming traffic. A passenger recorded the footage 20200224_154049_1.mp4
  24. Raining when I left the office in Aberdeen. Slightly different at home 20200224_164712.mp4
  25. The Suie, in winter conditions, is not for the faint hearted. I had a nightmare coming down there in a range rover 10 years ago. Nappy required
