Heavy snizzle in Bexleyheath

Instead of blaming flooding after rain (nothing out of the ordinary) or flooding after a thunder storm (again, looking back over the years, nothing out of the ordinary), let's think back 20 or more years when there was a regular road sweeper/machines that cleaned leaves and debris from clogging drains. People employed at all the local parks and open spaces, making sure rivers and the like were clear from anything that could block flow and cause flooding.
Not forgetting the green spaces being built on without consideration of problems.
I'm not saying that global warming isn't a thing, but let's be sensible when everything gets blamed on that, rather than general maintenance of our roads, drains and rivers.

Hello SR. Goòd to see you posting in here Hope you are well. All very valid points you raise. In particular the lack of consideration to expansion of housing needs and not taking into consideration how to deal with the consequences of the lack of natural drainage to put it simply.
And yes, this is fairly typical autumnal weather. But in relation to global warming (which further adds to your above points), the main word and possibly the most noteworthy in this case is 'global'. With the apparent ever increasing global temperature, it is worth remembering higher temperatures will also hold higher water content (and I mean on a global scale, and to an extent on a natuonal or regional scale although perhaps not to the same extreme values as other areas would see)
"Localised flooding" however should be a concern and warnings I feel were rightly issued to cover this. In my opinion when people blame global warming, they don't necessarily think of the the points you raised and only really have the news as a point of reference. So a less informed opinion (one sided so to speak) can only give a less informed decision on what we can place the blame. And when you are told the same thing constantly - some will come to terms with that being the root cause.
Hope this makes sense.. I've waffled a bit
Rain is getting heavier here. Maybe it's because I grew up in an era before everything gets reported online, but I can honestly say, this weather is nothing out of the ordinary, and people should be questioning why they have floods now, and didn't 20 odd years ago when they had the same uneventful amount of rain.
I'm just grateful I don't have many years left.

I'm very much on your side regarding overpopulation, but the weather warnings for rain and flooding are because its raining and flooding
But do you not question why it's flooding? Is this rain honestly any worse than years gone by? I suspect not.

I don't think anyone said this is from global warming, hurricane Lee moisture is what's pepping up the amount of rain though, why it's a double front, rather than a traditional cold front.
So why the weather warnings about rain and flooding?
The big elephant in the room when it comes to global warming is restricting how many children we can have. If we carry on the way we are, with no limit, earth simply cannot cope.

I just don't get it. This kind of weather keeps making the news, but it's just typical British weather. Rain half the day, a couple of gusts of wind (literally nothing of note) and suddenly it's all because of global warming
Its apparently got nothing to do with the continuing expansion of births worldwide, continuing building of housing and expansion of cities on green land without consideration of drainage. Not forgetting the lazy stupid prats that prefer fake grass to lawnmowing a few months in the summer.
I appreciate there is more to global warming issues than the above, but surely to God, the main issue is not tackling the expanding reproduction of humans on a planet that simply cannot cope.

I can't believe this has even warranted a thread. In the grand scheme of things, what do likes and dislikes matter?
Take a step back and appreciate the real things you have in life. Who cares if someone likes your post? Is it a matter of life and death? No, I thought not

I'd rather have this weather any day to having the heat that Europe is experiencing. Last year's record breaking temperatures were something I never want to see repeated!!

Am I the only person living in the SE/London area sick to death of putting up with weeks of heat and humidity and getting zero in storms (or what I call a reward) for putting up with this shiet heat?

I wonder how many schools will be closed tomorrow here in the SE. No one has mentioned anything about 'breaking out the sledges' yet
My daughter works in a local primary school and has been emailed this evening to say a decision will be made in the morning.
With the amount we have, and with it still falling, something tells me it will be shut tomorrow!

After appearing relatively capped and calm looking, the sky here seems to be rapidly filling with Ac and some chunky AcCas in places (although hard to verify). Can also see what appears to be anvils streaming in from the far SW skyline.
Visually at least, it’s starting to look promising for our neck of the woods @snow raven
Fingers crossed. I was starting to lose heart a bit!!

Looks like a repeat of yesterday evening/night across the SW approaches at the moment - just much earlier and much further west.
Curious to see how that line evolves through the evening.
What do you think of our chances this evening/over night Harry? Do you think anything will reach London/SE?

Proper snow here now Tom, nice big flakes. Not enough to settle, but lovely to see all the same!
