  1. Frigid indeed it was the coldest since 1995. Think Braemar had 70cm of lying snow that morning of the 11th. It was definitely a cold winter. Then we had no spring then one of the hottest summers and warmest autumns that year.
  2. As someone who likes cold, sunny winters. Ranked from best to worst 2009/10 - Absolutely brilliant winter, we had a snow cover for virtually the whole winter. I remember the snow started here about the 14th and it wouldn’t stop. We missed out on the weather over Christmas as we were abroad, we came back and the snow was a foot and a half deep it was insane. January and February both continued cold and snowy most of the time with the odd milder interlude to break things up. Superb winter. 2017/18 - A cold snap in the middle of December, a generally cold January with a good snowy spell in the middle and a cold February with the famous beast from the east. Plenty cold, winter sunshine throughout as well. 2020-21 - December didn’t really have much cold weather until the closing days. January started very cold, frosty and sunny before having a snowy period between the 14th-18th. It got briefly milder again before turning cold in the last week. February was a month of two half’s, exceptionally cold and snowy first half before the second half completely flipped and turned much milder and sunny. It genuinely felt like mild spring during the end of that winter. 2014-15 - My sunniest winter on record, not much snow other than a brief spell in mid January but generally pleasantly cold, sunny weather throughout with not too much rain. 2000-01: The cold snowy spell between Christmas and new year, a cold January and then the blizzard at the start of February. Rest of the winter was quite boring however. 2018-19: Very sunny winter again but aside from freezing rain in December and the February heat at the end, nothing much to note. 2005-06: Not much to note this winter but it was very dry and quite sunny. 2010-11: An exceptionally cold and snow December with the deepest snow I have ever experienced. About 50cm was recorded by the 3rd. A good first half of January but the second half and February were horrible, dull, mild, wet and windy my worst combination. 2008-09: Cold but we missed most of the snow, don’t recall too much. 2002-03: A very sunny and springlike spell in January cancelled out a terrible December and a meh February. 2021-22: A very sunny January but was let down by a poor December and February. 2022-23: A good cold snap in December but it was generally a boring, wet winter. 2012-13: It had a lot of snow but I really didn’t enjoy this winter. It came after a really wet December and January was so dull it just felt gloomy. February did redeem it slightly however. 2003/04 - Generally can’t remember anything at all about this winter aside from a snowy spell at the end of January. 2015-16: December and January were terrible for obvious reasons but it did have a cold and pleasant February. 2001-02: December was cold and sunny but January and February that followed were awful, mild, windy, very rainy. Very little frost. 2019-20: Mainly down to that February. Think I recorded rain on every single day, December wasn’t a bad month that year but January was exceptionally mild but boring. 2011-12: Hated that December, January while having some cold snaps was generally mild and boring. February did have a good cold spell and a exceptionally mild spell but it was just such a boring winter. 2007-08: can’t remember much at all other than a sunny February. December and January were bleak. 2006-07: Wet, very mild, bleak. My worst conditions for winter. Just felt like extended autumn with shorter days. 2013-14: Need I say more about this winter? I wasn’t anywhere near as wet as the south but I still couldn’t think of a worst winter. Winter is a season I don’t usually pay much attention to other than keep local records about it so apologies if some are a bit vague. Frigid I recorded -18.0.C in February 2021. That even beat December 2010’s record which was -17.8.C and that held a record in Perth since February 1956 I believe. Definitely think Scotland got hit a lot worse that February.
  3. Summerlover2006 January 2020 - January 2021 February 2018-February 2019 March 2012-March 2013 April 2011-April 2012 May 2020-May 2021 June 2010-June 2011 July 2020-July 2021 August 2020-August 2021 September 2016-September 2017 October 2012-October 2013 November 2015-November 2016 December 2010-December 2011
  4. Sunshineandshowers84 May 2021 was by far the worst May I have ever experienced. It was awful, cold wet and windy aside from the final couple of days. I recorded maxima of 5.C on the 5th and snow showers. It was absolutely abysmal. Considering April had many cold nights spring that year never seemed to get going. It was just cold then completely flipped to summer. Summer 2022 was also a cracking summer and you’re right I think for eastern Scotland it was definitely better than 2021 (I usually get the best of both regardless of wind direction) . Spring 2022 was pretty unremarkable, May had some good weather but it wasn’t overly warm. I went to Mexico at the start of June on holiday. I came back on 15th and I remember June from then on was pretty much continually warm and sunny aside from a couple of heavy showers from time to time (first half was quite unsettled). July had two phenomenal heatwaves (6th-11th) and then again from the (17th-20th) I recorded a maximum of 32.0C on the 19th which I believe is a record for Perth. 31.1.C was my next highest both recorded in July 2013 and June 2018. July while it had its very warm and sunny weather I didn’t think wasn’t as settled as July 2021. There was still a few days of cloudy and wet weather. The last week I recall being rather disappointing. August 2022 was the warmest and sunniest August since 2003. It was a cracking month compared to recent August’s. There was plenty of hot and sunny weather in the first half and even the second half while a good bit cooler still had plenty of sunny weather. There was a lot of warm and sunny days on the east coast that year and that was a rare summer where I recorded a maximum of 26.C or above in every month.
  5. One month that I have a lot of good memories from that doesn’t get a lot of mention is April 2015. For me it was the sunniest April on record until 2021, it had a maximum above average but also had a lot of cool nights with minima below average (my favourite combination in spring) and a lot of good spring weather. I remember Easter weekend being very pleasant that year with a high of 19.3.C on Easter Sunday (5th) then a high of 18.9.C on Easter Monday. The good weather lasted the rest of that week before shifting to something a bit more unsettled with some notable hail on the 11th but it still remained rather sunny. There was then another pretty warm spell from the 19th-24th reaching a high of 21.1.C on the 22nd. The last week turned rather unsettled and quite wet and that was the pattern that may 2015 followed. A month with not the warmth of 2007 and 2011 but for many places had higher sunshine totals. As my stats it certainly didn’t have a mean temperature of anything spectacular but had significantly warmer maximums Stats Mean maximum: 14.4.C (+1.7.C) Mean minimum: 2.2.C (-1.4.C) Mean: 8.3.C (+0.2.C) Rainfall: 27mm (62%) Sunshine: 215 hours (147%) Whats your memories ?
  6. March 2022 - Stunning spell of warm, sunny weather from the 19th-27th every day during this period had a maximum of above 16.C. The month did have quite an unsettled start but it equally had some amazing weather. The month also had some notably cold nights which made it even more pleasant. March 2012 - Exceptionally warm and dry the mean maximum temperature was 13.3.C which is 4.C above average, even more interesting was the maximum temperatures were 9.C warmer than March 2013. Unlike 2022 though there wasn’t much interesting weather other than that glorious heatwave between the 25th-30th, with a record March maximum being set at 21.7.C for me on the 27th. The month was just very mild, dry and sunny throughout with very little rain, wind, snow or frosts. March 2010 - A good mix of alternating cold and warm spells, notable cold snap at the end of the month with heavy snow. March 2009 - Not a March with any extremes but it was generally very pleasant and mild throughout. March 2003 - Similar to March 2012 but not any extreme heat, think the highest I recorded that month was about 17.C.
  7. January 2022 is probably a good example of this type of weather. The month was very mild, dry and sunny which is a very rare occurrence for January. A very mild beginning with New Years Day being exceptionally mild. Then we had a spell of weather in the third week with maximum temperatures around 10-13.C with plenty of sunshine and light winds. Think it was the 20th especially where it felt very springlike. February 2019 is probably another example of this weather if you took the first week out which was very cold. That period between 21st-27th was amazing. The 26th was my hottest day with 15.9.C recorded. I was walking about in shorts and t shirt that day and for February it really felt so strange. February 2012 also had a similar spell at the end of the month with very mild temperatures and sunshine although it wasn’t quite as mild as February 2019 but wasn’t far behind at all. December I can’t recall any spell of weather where it was mild, dry and sunny. Those types of winter months are very rare for my part unfortunately, February however usually does bring a few days where it is pleasantly mild and sunny with no wind.
  8. reef that’s similar to me. 2007 did still have useable spells of weather but the heat just never came to much, even 2008 and 2011 had some brief settled warmer periods. 2012 just never seem to have got going at all.
  9. Frigid Yep September 2012 was very pleasant during the first 10 days, then it completely flipped and became cold but it was still very pleasant for most of the month and had some very cold nights.
  10. danm suppose 2012 did have more hot weather than 2007 and probably even 2008 and 2011 as well. Always good to see other people’s opinions on these topics.
  11. Weather Enthusiast91 Summer 2007 was another poor summer. I recorded my dullest June that year only 74 hours compared to 164 so only 45% of average. However for me anyway the saving grace for summer 2007 was despite the rain and cool weather in July, it wasn’t an overly dull month plus it wasn’t exceptionally wet. July 2002, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2015 were all wetter and August 2007 was actually sunnier than average. We missed a lot of the flooding and there was still a few useable good warm days in July despite the mainly wet weather. August wasn’t overly wet either and there was many sunny days towards the end of the month which made up for it.
  12. Derecho the 2007 floods were definitely something else. We missed out on all the floods that year, summer 2007 was still a poor summer. But July and August for me at least had average sunshine and August was actually quite pleasant most of the time albeit cool. North-Easterly Blast I couldn’t begin to imagine how awful summer 1912 must’ve been.
  13. One summer that I will never forget for the wrong reasons - Summer 2012. I have never experienced a summer so poor and I hope I never experience a summer so bad again. What is everyone’s memories of this summer and have you recorded a worse summer or remember any worse. June - An absolute borefest and so cold. Maximum temperatures were nearly 3.C below average for me and it was by far the coldest June I have recorded. There was five days the whole month where it was dry, sunny and settled all day and that was the 2nd, 4th, 18th, 19th and 20th. The rest of the month was cold, wet and very windy. It genuinely felt like October most of the time. The only saving grace it wasn’t exceptionally wet, it was the fifth wettest I’ve recorded since 1999. 2002, 2004, 2007 and 2017 were all wetter. We missed out on the brief hot spell on the 28th with just more of the same steady rainfall and relentless cloud. July - Continued pretty much exactly from where July left off there was a brief respite between the 4th-6th with some slightly better weather but nothing worthy to note. Then the bad weather restarted again by the 7th and this continued until the 23rd, more Atlantic rubbish, temperatures barely getting to the mid teens, wet, overcast with only brief sunny periods. The weather did somewhat improve by the 24th but again we missed out on the heat. The closing days were again slightly better than the rest of the month but still rubbish. August - Continued unsettled but thankfully not on the scale of June and July and weirdly the warmest and driest weather of the whole summer was during this spell. Spells from 4th-8th, 10th-13th, 17th-21st, were all pretty good temperatures getting into the mid 20’s and with plenty sunshine. Aside from those periods though the weather was still pretty wet and cloudy but thankfully a little bit warmer. Definitely the worst summer I can remember and I hope to god we never get a summer that bad ever again some notable stats during this season. Particularly with maximum temperatures, well below average except in August. Rainfall well above average in all months and sunshine well below average expect in August. Highest maximum temperatures June: 20.2.C (20th) (average: 25.1.C) 4.9.C below average July: 22.4.C (25th) (average: 26.6.C) 4.2.C below average August: 24.7.C (11th) (average: 24.9.C) 0.2.C below average Mean maximum June: 15.4.C (average: 18.3.C) 2.9.C below average July: 17.9.C (average 20.1.C) 2.2.C below average August: 19.3.C (average 19.5.C) 0.2 below average Overall: 17.5.C (average 19.3.C ) 1.8.C below average Rainfall June: 101mm (158% of average) July: 138mm (171% of average) August: 107mm (129% of average) Overall: 346mm (153% of average) Sunshine June: 107 hours (65% of average) July: 99 hours (57% of average) August: 143 hours (93% of average) Overall: 349 hours (72% of average)
  14. Summer of 95 April 2008 wasn’t especially great from memory, although the late snowfalls were quite interesting. Very little warm weather during that month. I did prefer April 2007 to 2011 mind you. 2009 was a good April, remember it being consistently mild rather than any very warm weather. I didn’t record a maximum higher than 19.C but also I only had three days where the maximum failed to reach 10.C. 2010 was very pleasant as well but did have some cold weather during it. Then after 2011 the next good April was 2015 and then after that 2019.
  15. Yep 2011 is definitely the worst year of the 2010’s for me. It was a terrible year for any summer heat and long sunshine other than that April. Memories for me include. January - It continued very cold until the the 13th and we finally lost our snow cover on the 18th. (We had a continuous snow cover from 25th November until the 18th January). I only remember one snow event that year and that was on the 8th the rest was just the leftover snow from that exceptional December. The rest of the month was just boring and dull. February - Very mild and wet my worst winter combination there was very little frost all month. I remember it snowing on the 20th quite heavy but I didn’t last long at all. Not quite as bad as February 2002 but was definitely the worst one since then and I would say the next as bad would’ve been 2017. March - Quite a mild and sunny month from memory, although I remember it being very snowy one weekend I think it was the 12th. It was brief but a notably cold spell of weather and then it warmed up quite rapidly soon after. Do remember there being quite a lot of pleasant weather during the month but few warmer days. April - Phenomenal month, probably the only good month of the whole year. Exceptionally warm (maxima of 16.6.C) and it was also very dry and sunny although April 2007 was both slightly drier and sunnier. It was consistently warm and sunny pretty much after about the 5th. I remember the 14th and 23rd being cool and wet but I think every other day was warm and sunny the warmest day was on the 10th with 23.1.C. April 2007 and 2003 both had slightly warmer highs but I’ve yet to record a higher reading since then. May - Quite an unsettled month. It was very westerly. Western and northern Scotland got absolutely hammered with rain, it was only slightly wetter than average for me and it was actually a little sunnier than average but the weather was very showery and quite windy at times. It was very windy on the 23rd with gale force winds. June - A very warm start and finish was sandwiched between a long cool period of weather. There was quite a few cool nights in the second week with temperatures well down into single figures, the third week was very wet and there was a big thunderstorm on the 19th. The last week turned very pleasant, warm and sunny. July - A month quite similar to June it had a warm and sunny start before turning cooler and unsettled from the 4th. There was very heavy rain on the 6th which brought some flooding to Perth where I stay. Unlike June there was still some pleasantly warm and sunny days thrown in but there was some very chilly nights throughout the month. There was another day on the 16th with more flooding. After the 24th the weather turned a lot more settled and heat started to build but not to a excessive degree. August - A cool, wet and dull month. Very little memory from it but it was the third coolest August I’ve recorded only 2017 and 2020 have been colder. Can’t recall much at all from the month other than very rare warm, sunny days. September - Pretty unsettled for most of the month until the final week where it had some very warm and sunny weather. I actually recorded my warmest day of the year of the 30th with a high of 25.4.C. October - Not much to note of that month at all. Seemed like a typical October, a few days of mild and wet weather, a quieter colder spell, some more rain and then the occasional sunny day. November - Extremely mild, by far the warmest November I recorded although I do think 1994 was probably slightly warmer. Again like October not really much to note from the month. I don’t remember there being any frosts or cold weather or much heavy rain. December - Briefly cold and frost to begin then generally very mild and wet, it was especially mild around Christmas. Christmas Day was exceptionally mild. Generally a forgettable year.
  16. Sun Chaser Yep I agree, a poor September for me is pretty rare and I’ve recorded some very dry Septembers. Going back 25 years or so I would say the only poor September’s I can really remember are 2017, 2008, 2001, 2000 and 1998.
  17. 2021 - That snowy spell between the 8th-12th was the best I can ever recall in February. It was even better as right after we got buried in a foot of snow, the sun came right out and while it was extremely cold it was glorious. I recorded a minimum of -18.C on the 12th and a maximum of only -6.C that day. Then come the 23rd the weather completely flipped and became very mild and sunny with maxima of 14.C on both the 25th and 26th. 2019 - Another month similar to 2021 but without the snow. The first half was very cold and frosty -8.C on both the 1st and 2nd, then that very mild spell between the 25th-28th. A high of 16.C and sunshine without the wind made it feel like a May Day here. 2013 - Coming after a bleak January this was most welcome, it was a cold and sunny month with little snow and had lots of frosty mornings. Favourite combination for winter. 2012 - For the mild, sunny spell at the end of the month. 2008 - Sunshine and high maximum temperatures felt like a spring month most of the time.
  18. 2021 - Was the first proper cold Janaury we had since 2010, with a mean of 1.3.C. There was a good snowy spell between the 13th-20th with a maximum depth of 19cm on the 14th. It turned briefly milder but then the cold weather returned for the 24th. However there was no snow during this spell just pleasant winter sunshine and hard frosts. 2019 - Sunniest January on record here. I recorded 72 hours compared to an average of 47. There was a good mild spell between the 10th-12th which brought some sunshine and temperatures of around 11.C which felt quite springlike under light winds. There was a cold snap right after that with a little bit of snow but it didn’t amount to much. The month ended very cold and frosty but gloriously sunny. 2018 - A good snowy spell midmonth right after a really sunny and frosty period. 2010 - Absolutely brilliant month for snow and low temperatures. I recorded a minimum of -14.C on the 1st, probably the coldest New Year’s Day for me on record. 32cm of snow here on the 5th.
  19. Ah the year of 2018 probably one of the best years weather wise. We missed out on the April hot spell but it was still very pleasant none the less. March 2018 did remind me quite a lot of 2013 but it was noticeably warmer which is saying something. (March 2013 was around 4.5.C below average for me). With its two heavy snowfalls, and then dull and cold weather with significant wind chill. April continued cold I remember Easter 2018 being very sunny and calm but it was chilly with maximum temperatures of only around 7.C, we then had some very heavy snow on the 4th which lay for the day before slowly melting. The weather didn’t get much warmer until about the 14th. I can remember that day hitting 15.C but it felt like 20.C. That was the first shot of anything semi warm that year, March 2018’s highest temperature for me was only 12.C. It then gradually got warmer but nothing unusual, the hottest it reached for me was 19.8.C on the 21st, which is about average for April. So very pleasant but nothing unusual. After the 23rd things got a little more unsettled and cooler but it wasn’t cold it was just typical April weather. May started quite cool but things quickly warmed up by the 6th. This day having a maximum of 22.4.C so first day over 20.C and it remained warm and sunny until the 9th and it very briefly became cool and wet before warming up again by the 12th and this continued for the rest of the month. The rest of May was absolutely glorious with maximum temperatures reaching at least the high teens every day and in the low-mid 20’s on a few days. The spell between the 23rd-30th was especially warm a high of 26.6.C was reached for me on the 28th. 2017 was higher at 27.9.C but still very warm nonetheless. The mean maximum for me for May was 18.5.C which is 2.4.C above average. The nights were only a little warmer than average so that made May extremely pleasant. June continued with the stunning weather right up until the 12th. That period was probably some of the best weather in June I have seen. From the 12th it turned a bit more unsettled with some showers and cooler temperatures but it was still reasonably nice bar the 16th which was very cool and wet. From the 21st onwards the weather warmed up with vengeance and became very warm once again especially from the 24th onwards. The highest maximum I recorded was on the 28th and it reached 31.1.C which was my highest June temperature ever recorded and the highest ever for my area. July was much the same as June but it was a lot warmer with temperatures well into the mid 20’s pretty much every day until the 11th. It again like June did turn a little more unsettled for a couple of days before the heat and sun returned once again. Julys maximum that month was on the 27th with 27.7.C so not as hot as June but still above average. A cooler spell followed after this and that brought in August which unlike the rest of the summer was rather unsettled throughout with little warmth. If May had occurred in August that year. I think that summer would’ve been unbeatable for decades.
  20. It was more the snow I remember from storm Eunice. It was windy where I was but nothing unusual compared to most other winters. Think that was the only significant snow I recorded for all of winter 2021/22
  21. @Summer8906 It was definitely a very mild winter for us. December 2015 was indeed very mild for us too but we did have a brief snowy period between the 1st-3rd and then a cold snap between the 12th-15th so that did help bring the average down slightly. January 2016 was near average for me and February was slightly colder than average and had many frosts. March 2016 was average for temperatures for me but it was very dry. I do remember it ending on a very cold and windy spell though with some snow showers. Like I said before I think winter 2017 sticks out especially is because it’s the only winter I have ever recorded and seen without any lying snow which for my local area is really unusual, I only live 30 miles away from the Cairngorms and usually my town is one of the worst hit in the country.
  22. 2000: Controversial but I will say summer 2000. It was one of the driest summers I’ve recorded only 2003, 2013, 2018 and 2021 have been drier. Didn’t have much heat but it was a pleasant summer in the north. 2001: Winter - Cold but very pleasant January with plenty of sunshine, February had a blizzard here on the 4th and it brought some very heavy snow, probably the heaviest snowfall until December 2009. Continued into March with some very low temperatures. 2002: None, horrible, horrible year for weather. No season that year deserves a mention. 2003: Summer - Very pleasant June with lots of sunshine, warm days and not much rain, July was still a decent month despite it being rather dull, there was some brilliant summer weather midmonth. August was a spectacular month, until the last week and that was the last proper good August until 2021 which is amazing. 2004: Summer - Not a summer for good weather but I found August 2004 very interesting. It was a very wet but also a very humid and warm month which was very unusual. Some severe flooding between the 9th-13th. Many villages in Perthshire were cut off, there was a landslide on the A9 and Aberfeldy around 30 miles from me had 150mm of rain in just three days. I hadn’t experienced a month like it before and I haven’t since. 2005: Summer - Have good memories of that summer, it was very dry especially in July. June had some good weather in the first half, the first half of July was glorious the second was a bit more dull and cool but it was still dry. August was quite warm and had a week of lovely weather but it wasn’t overly settled. 2006: Summer - Fantastic summer especially in June and July, very warm and sunny with only occasional rain. August was still quite a decent month but more unsettled, some hot weather in the second week but was quite cool in the second half. 2007: Autumn - September and October were lovely months, maximum temperatures were above average with many dry and sunny days but with cool nights so it made it very pleasant after a poor summer. November did turn a little bit more unsettled but still wasn’t too bad. 2008: Spring - Pulling at strings for 2008 but Spring did have some interesting weather, snowy weather at Easter which was unusual and May that year was very pleasant. 2009: Spring - A pleasantly mild and sunny season for the most part without too much heat until the last week of May. March and April were both pleasantly mild and May was until the final week where it turned much hotter
  23. @Sun Chaser I agree. September 2021 was also a good month, although as much as a love the hot summer weather I do like a bit of autumnal weather come September. September 2020 was perfect for that, we had some lovely warm afternoons but then with the clear skies at night it meant that there was some notably chilly nights well into the low/mid single figures and even some air frosts. Which is what I like, it was nice to finally have some nice weather after such a poor summer. September 2021 was a lot more warm there was a lot of days well into the mid 20’s but there was also a lot of humid nights. The mean maximum for me was 18.8.C and mean minimum was 11.7.C. Around 2.C above average, warmest locally for me since I started keeping a record in 1999. I think after such a good summer I was looking forward to some crisp autumnal days, which never came and then it never came. October and November that year were also very mild. I didn’t record my first frost until the third week of October and then another one until the second week of November.
  24. @SqueakheartLW 2016/17 was definitely the mildest winter I can think of and it’s the only winter I can think of that had absolutely no days of lying snow. There was a few flurries on a few days but that was it. Only for a few days in January there was a cold snap. February had a brief easterly cold snap around the 10th for a couple of days and aside from that it was mild and wet.
  25. @Summer8906 winter 2015/16 wasn’t actually overly mild for myself other than December it was warmer than average but winter 2006/07, 2007/08, 2011/12, 2013/14 were all milder. In fact December 2016 was actually milder than 2015. January 2016 was near average for me and it was actually quite a snowy month although it often got milder and melted quickly so it didn’t last too long. February 2016 was slightly colder than average and had many frosty nights. 2020 is a good one as well. January 2020 was the mildest for me since 2007, February was only slightly milder than average. I think 2017 was more notable because it wasn’t overly wet other than February. January was very dry and March was also quite dry and sunny so it made more pleasant mild weather.
