Light snow in Latimer on the Hert Bucks border

Wet snow at Finchley Road, not settling or slowing trains down though.

Just happy to see it on the MetO website, I have not so fond memories of walking home from central London after a similar event in 2003 so will be leaving early regardless. Anything is a bonus.

Cold in the Chilterns, down to -9 I understand last night, still -4.5 in NW London this morning, and a frost on cars at 8pm last night..

Good to see the thread back again for the imminent season.. Here's to lots of ice and snow! Whoop whoop! Am very optimistic especially seeing that the Arctic sea ice and Northern Hemisphere snow seems above average. Awaiting the cool down at the end of the week :-)

To fill the gap until someone more knowledgeable pops along, I am not an icelandic speaker, but dug around a bit more, and may have the following translations, and a guess as to what these mean: 1. Haf = Sea, Is = Ice, Jadar = Icelandic Place ==> So may refer to actual known Sea Ice for Jadar region 2. Aaetladur = Approximate ==> So may refer to approximate extent of Jadar Sea Ice 3. Hitaskil = Warm Front ==> So may refer to warm water currents?

Was snowing heavily in Latimer, South Bucks, but just stopped and brightening up.

Still snowing here with a couple of inches on the BBQ. Very pleased as unexpected. Will be interesting to see what the morning brings. The temps are 0.0 to -0.5 so ideal.

About 3 inches of snow here settled on BBQ, still falling and powdery (null)

Light snow for the past 30 mins here in South Bucks / Chilterns

Very happy to see TEITS here, have been lurking all winter, waiting for the big snow event. Have a very excited 4 year old with his sled at the ready (needless to say I'm excited too). We're in south Chiltern hills and went down to -8.7 last night. Currently -5.7 brrr, though nice solid ground for snow to stick to! (null)

Eased here now, and ground appears too warm for settling apart from on grass. A shame we haven't had a few weeks of hard frosts first.

Woke up to light covering on the grass here in Latimer, now snowing which appears to be getting heavier. Just need it to be more steady than this to cover. Temp 0.5. Love living in the Chilterns as we always get something due to the hilly nature of the area. Much happier this year as in 2010 I had a baby due on Christmas day and was more or less housebound by the snow.

We're about to move to The Chilterns from NW London. I am very excited about the difference this will make to our snow experience. Usually The Chilterns get a pasting, whilst our location in Ruislip just misses out or gets just a small amount. Needless to say we will be borrowing my parents 4x4 at the end of December as the village we're moving to often get's cut off in the weather. Our son will get a sled this year too. Sorry for the snow ramping post, just looking forwards to being in an area with more interesting topography than NW London.

Huge snowflakes now! Size of 50p or small feathers! Has been non stop since last night. Though it is really sticking now. Will be interesting for the rush hour!

Been snowing intensely now for an hour but flakes quite small. Hope it gets a bit thicker soon.

I would agree that Ruislip has been horrendous, it has been gridlocked from 11am this morning onwards. We have also done Ruislip to Bushey in 15 mins and Ruislip to Borehamwood in 20 mins. This is quite achievable especially at 6am in the morning. My husband is trying to get to Chorleywood and is stuck somewhere near Moor Park. Roads gridlocked now. Mainly due to automatic Mercedes which seem the worse in snow, and drivers trying to drive in 1st gear rather than the highest gear possible. Will be interesting to see if the gritters get to work or not.
