  1. Boxing Day 1970, we had about 6 inches of snow. New Years Eve 1978 was a cracker. A howling E/NE wind blowing a blizzard.
  2. Not too bothered about snow, just want it to dry up for a bit ,cold and seasonal would be nice, but as it is , I think I'd take anything at the moment.
  3. Cold and sunny for me , I just completely detest the rain , we get more than our fair share of the rubbish down here in Somerset.
  4. In precisely 2 years time, I shall be approaching my 66th birthday, H M G will then condecend to let me have the old age pension that I've paid into for 50 years, and I shan't have to worry about trying to earn a living outdoors in this sh,,,, te climate any longer.
  5. If the next slide shows him kicking the office cat, we'll know we're on to a winner.
  6. I could provide a more colourful description of it. Trouble is, the swear filter would probably go into overdrive, and I would be banned for life
  7. Another day, and yet another dose of nope - still swearingin rain, it really is starting to become tedious now.
  8. Chance would be a fine thing, It refers to the winter which I had the pleasure of freezing my bo.....cks off in as a Bricklayers Apprentice.
  9. We're all different, I can remember having to wear them to Primary School in the mid 60's Winter , and Summer . My legs used to be bl....dy freezing cold . Put me off them for life , it has to be roasting for me to get into a pair. Saying that, I've spent most of my 47 years of working life in the Building Trade,so you could say I'm pretty hardened to it now
  10. All very subjective ,when you hit 63, and take blood thinners, 8 degrees can feel a tad nippy. As for shorts, not a chance.
  11. After suffering rainfall of biblical proportions, should we get by some miracle , a few dry months next year. I hope to God we don't have to listen to some clown droning on about water shortages.
  12. I'm glad mine are grown up, there doesn't seem to be a great deal of common sense coming out of the mouths of some of these teachers these days. I can remember taking my two out of school for a holiday in the mid 90s for example, nobody batted an eyelid.
  13. No, I suffer with it as well, Low pressure equals misery in that respect.
  14. Just listened to Ian Fergusson on our local weather. He's made up my mind , dentist is being cancelled for Thursday .
  15. Must admit that this poxy rain is seriously starting to hack me off now, not just regarding work, but generally.
  16. Same here, I'm currently just burning odds, and ends. I reckon I've gathered enough to keep us going until after Christmas. If we get a few dry days, I'll probably get out and about in the van and see what's about. A full load on top will probably see us through. Got some Hawthorn that I'm keeping back for when it gets colder.
  17. We were building some houses at the time. I can remember it being so cold that diesel froze in the tanks of the firms 7.5 ton lorries. The coldest I have ever been was in early Jan 82,we were working near Bristol, and could only stand it for about half an hour at a time, and then we had to go inside and warm up.
  18. Woodburner has been lit for the last 4 evenings . Got a half load of logs in this afternoon to go with what I already had got up together myself. Got about 1.7 cubic metres now, should keep us going until just after Christmas. Might be able to top it up with a few fallen ash limbs from the side of the road , and left overs from Ash die back cutting .
  19. I can see the wood burner being lit this weekend if the charts are close to being accurate.
  20. First Mother in law would probably disagree with you, she reckons her broomstick is freezing at that time of year .
  21. Nice down in Cornwall near St Ives this week. Sea breeze made a difference. Noticed how much hotter it is at home. The road works on the A30 near Camborne are a complete nightmare though. We managed to get off and come back on the A39, but I pity anyone trapped in their cars in this weather though.
  22. Know what you mean, living in a Council House on the Mendips during the 60s /70's was bloody cold The living room was warm with it's coal fire, but that was it. We had a Woodburner put in last year. Worth every penny.
  23. Myself and the wife sat with blankets over our laps last night for the first time. Notice the evenings really starting to turn in now.
  24. Not too bad here today, a few spits and spots of rain earlier on, but quite nice at about 22 degrees in the sunshine. Hoping it picks up around the 4th of next month, off to Cornwall for 4 days.
