  1. That was a hot spell over just two days. This is a cold spell with signs of lasting beyond two weeks of course we all have a weather preferences but no harm in showing consideration for those who don't have the benefit of any shelter or warmth. I'd like to think there is plenty of shelter for the homeless but there just isn't.
  2. Not a guilt trip but you can't help thinking of the homeless when there is freezing weather. As someone who was homeless sleeping rough myself for a short while in December 2000 I am very thankful for the few mild days and nights. Could've been much worse.
  3. Who remember the theme of this thread five months ago when it was "How can anyone appreciate thy heat"? Well now it's my turn.. how can anyone look forward to freezing nights and those dreadful frozen mornings? Not a great weather outlook for those wanting to keep their gas bills down or the homeless folk. And everyone spreading their germs just in time for seasons greetings...I hope all those chasing days of below zero uppers are prepared for spending Christmas with a cold and sore throat caught during the Christmas rush !
  4. Reminds me of Winter 2009 /10 more than December 2010, November being very wet and mild then things gradually becoming colder. Was the PV looking the same then as it is now?
  5. Tonights disappointment is just what happens when your willing to take Day 10 charts as the actual forecast... Didn't lessons get learnt after last winters epic cold christmas fail.
  6. CFS anomalies has been showing the cold spell is ending just in time for Christmas with mild air coming in from the Azores. Not sure where people are getting the idea that its going to be "December 2010" all over again.
  7. BBC weather was forecasting potential cold next week so hopefully not another one of those occasions where the presenter ends up with egg on their face.
  8. What is so exciting about Easterlies in early December? Do they bring extreme cold? Just as Southerlies in early June dont really bring extreme heat.
  9. I could actually say the same for next winter too as i'll probably just be as right as i am about this year. Would it make you feel better if I guessed that this winter was going to be cold and snowy as 2009/10? Would I still get the same reactions as I'm getting now and be accused of making a forecast? Put a guess based on the warming climate and how the majority of winters have panned out in the past ten years if you want to be right. As for the the model thread it should be renamed to the "It will never happen" thread anyway because all it does is chase FI charts that never verify 99.99% of the time. This is a thoughts thread after all and is only for a bit of guessing fun. Why people need to take it seriously and start criticising because others have said something that doesn't fit their narrative i will never know.
  10. Don't need to post charts. SSTs around UK still look warm which is bad news if you want cold during winter.
  11. There will be nothing exciting this winter any cold showing in the charts will just keep being pushed back, first to late December then to mid Jan then early Feb and before we know it March will be here in no time, it will be the same old chesnut as far as model watching is concerned
  12. Let's not be hoping for freezing conditions, snow and blizzards this winter especially after all the worry and concern we had in July over a two day heat wave killing thousands...
  13. Latest GFS shows the heat on Sunday squeezing a little further North again - 34/35C in NW England. Just a few more squeezes in the next few runs and it could be a 36c for my back yard.
  14. Latest GFS is back in the furnace mid 30s spreading over most of England next Friday
  15. There are some hot members appearing in ensembles going for very hot conditions and widespread again not just London..... What are humid levels likely to be like this time round? July 18/19 was dry so less oppressive.
  16. latest gfs says enjoy the first three days of next week before the green snot of Autumn arrives...Gone is that hot and dry ten day spell that was expected to start on the 7th... I also really think we're done with the nationwide 35 to 40C charts too for at least a few years or so.
  17. Here we go again, GFS 00z going totally bonkers with another horrendous widespread furnace (I hated the night of 18/19 July and nights here look no different)
  18. Why should it be flatter or not too far North? It's in a good position for areas that haven't seen much warmth this summer or should Scotland and Western areas continue to remain cloudy, unsettled, muggy and damp?
  19. A lot of us don't live in the South East so i'm afraid we dont share the same enthusiasm. All i see is a continuation of the NW/SE divide with 8 to 12C temperature differences between London and North West England and forever Autumn continues in the Far North West of Scotland..
