  1. It's because "touch wood" we are on the Lei or Lee side this time unlike Arwen or the new year wind. I mean it was still blawing a hoolie enough to wake me up at 2.45am (I hate wind!) BUT not enough to put the power out (though it did flicker lots!) or upset the bins (all other furniture long since pinned down) and most likely was enough to be blowing the trees into their roots as opposed to against them, which is what brings them down .. lets hope Jocelyn is the same, however everyone please stay safe and do not go out unless you have to x
  2. thank you for re-sharing @Big Innes Madori .. I remember that time from my old days here.. and sorry if this "event" has missed you by.. is the BFTE still a hott topic in the mad thread?
  3. I'm loving seeing your snaw dugs pictures, we last ours last August (17 years, so a great run) she would have loved this!! I remember having to make a track for her when she a wee yin, and then carry her to her master (my son) so she/they could play proper. memries!!
  4. eta: I unscientifically measured 20cm on Tuesday morning, but it was likely more as that was a place it could have been lifted from in the winds (but not drifted into) , however there was one spot "top of a patio table type one" that I know was cleared as I was using it to clear my snow shovel.. there's a fresh 5cm / 2 inches on the top of this table since then which of course includes any daytime compaction/melting so overall I reckon.. epic event!
  5. very impressive for the City! I was watching the radar on and off last night and it was weird how it "skirted around" the more easterly/north eastern tip area that had the sat/sunday dump (quite unusual for them to have more than the inland shire), but then gave a few cm's top up in the early hours , so "evening up" the total depth overall I can only remeber 1 other time when it was like this, apart from childhood memories where I can't recal exact dates/places, where the whole of the N/NE/NW got a "fair share" quite amazing pictures from everyone, especially catching the thundersnaw!
  6. coming down to the nowcasting again! amazing to see the "blobs" coming in from the North but being headed off at the pass to go East.. not often the City gets snow from this direction when no-one else in the shire does : D Enjoy! going to be an interesting evening.. no wonder this type thing can't be forecast
  7. I would love to hear too, . but if the winds shift even remotely N/Ne/E it could be that mythical "beast".. it's not often it happens on oor eastern side. but when it does it does, and this from west today, the other, side is just weird/extra.. I don't follow the models I just look at the radar and out my window, now casting so to speak?
  8. So after my hubby taking all the credit for My earllier snow digging (not an unusual occurence, lol!) he decides the birdies need fed.. no oatmeal in the house and he can't find the birdseed in the garage. I raked the cupbords and found my son's energy drink powder (now out of date) contains nuts and seeds in a powdered form! mixed it up with some (cooked) lentils and bread to thicken it.. we are going to have some of the beefiest wee birds around LOL still snowing here
  9. added.. it's gotten over the hills and made it back here! @Mair Snaw very very lightly, but wasn't expecting any more until about tea-time according the metoffice
  10. you might make it.. not sure about this side of Bennachie (Kemnay) but I can see it lurking! 4 hours clearing yesterdays deluge, thankfully it stayed off long enough to get that done.. was very pretty this morning though wasn't it, I measure 20cm at one point but after yesterdays winds who knows qhich bit was the right bit to measure.. it was a heaps though. It's certainly been a nowcasting event though hasn't it Typically the grit lorry was supposed to come up and fill the grit bin yesterday, but they never made it up oor hill.. the joys :D
  11. Calm before the storm? 2 scenarios imo 1. hype to instill panic, again 2. the SSEN do not want to get caught on the hop, just in case.. I'm still charging everything I can with a passion though!!
  12. I don't post much any more but I do visit often and love catching the photos and updates this photo was taken today about 12:30 today, although we've had no snow since Tuesday, I'm amazed how it's holding on despite the beautiful blue sunny sky!
  13. I wondered if TOORP was still a word around here I often still use it with a smile and think about the old days fondly haha!
  14. Is the wind direction forecast to change to more N/NE'rly? Always love your pics and farmers notes btw!
