  1. can't work out the movement/direction of these showers, surely by midnight they should be more widespread and further south in our region by then
  2. Just started to hailstone here, pretty light at the moment though
  3. Just to note, not a single snow flake came out of the sky which from that radar was slap bang over head of where I am now... really strange as I was watching out for it before it was suppose to arrive.
  4. Been a couple of days away from here as I was in huff with the lack of snow whilst I was back home in chester-le-st... now back in shildon and woke up to a fresh covering of snow which fell overnight (good inch or so) melted pretty quick through the day though. been very cold in the wind today, that low tonight moving down north sea may well be a let down, feel we may miss the heavier ppn tonight
  5. Yeah its not ideal, but stranger things have happened, think sunday into tues looks more favoured for eastern side of region with winds more northerly (poss N/Easterly) time will tell I suppose
  6. Yes the pennines and cheviots prevent some showers getting over to the east in westerly based winds, though heavier showers stand a better chance or troughs... big cluster of showers now heading down from southern Scotland so lets see how these get on. Also regard to this cold spell lasting into next week it does look promising for more snow and talk of a blocking setting up at some point later in month... fingers crossed
  7. last euro 4 run shows an increase in shower activity around midnight for a few hours so there is still plenty of time especially when surfaces are likely to freeze between showers. still think a line from A69 downwards most favoured parts (especially higher ground to west and south of region)
  8. well im not staying at my usual home tonight, but I have been told it's snowing heavily in shildon/bishop Auckland and settling fast. tonight i'm just up the road from chester-le-street... had a few snow showers in the past hour or so, ground still wet and not sticking very well here just yet as the showers lose intensity as they pass by here with the heavier pulses further south.
  9. Well time has come for our next cold spell, least this one looks like lasting well into next week, be it hail, sleet, snow, ice, frost. taking a look closely at various weather forecasts from met/bbc and models, looks like tomorrow evening and overnight till thursday morning we have a good chance of snow showers moving across the region in bands from the west in the strong winds, many still heavy. latest euro 4 has a covering of snow away from east coastal areas and plenty of snow showers 6 hours later, still there... There after a brief lull in showers but more organised bands of showers moving through thursday night period... may be of snow (esp higher ground) then less cold air fri/sat before the northerly kicks in sunday and brings the potential for more organised snow events, though details unknown at present.
  10. Think everyone in here should give it till tuesday night at least, by then we will have a better understanding of how this forthcoming cold spell will develop and more importantly where we may see snow. I suspect us in the north east may have to wait till the weekend to see more meaningful snow and no doubt the Meto will be placing plenty of warnings for most of the uk at some point this week including a winter cold weather alert.
  11. One run that is 10 days away... will look totally different in a few runs time anyway.
  12. just going by my amateur knowledge of model/chart watching, its seems like most runs the past fair few days are prolonging this cold spell and with more in the know coming on board... ie: the expert forecasters and meto, this may turn out to be the best cold spell for the last couple of years for most people. already this year I have seen more snow and lying snow than the past two years with 850 uppers not to different from what is forecast this coming week and beyond, As for snow in any one location, it is pointless commenting on this as it will be a case of now casting on the day... I do believe that some areas will see some troublesome snow though. Look forward to next weeks model watching
  13. Real potential for a good wintry spell to develop at the end of next week with snow a real possibility this time, not just for high ground... of course any snow detail unknown at present... so plenty to keep us on our toes and interested this coming week Stay tuned!!!
  14. morning... slight covering here from overnight, temp currently 0.7c snow cover showing some signs of slight thawing, but it is snowing at present although be it very light. Big clump of ppn over N york moors, heading slowly north... don't think it will make it without fizzling out.
  15. Details regarding this snow has changed quite a bit since yesterday, think the most a few lucky locations can expect is a dusting... more so towards the south of the region. met office app for shildon says light snow from 2am til late morning (doubt that will happen though)
  16. Strange evening tonight with that said mini low, temp around 1.3c here and been like that since the heavy snow from around 3.30pm... lying snow slowly melting too. overcast/drizzle outside now.
  17. Tomorrow snow chances as i see it... Front pushing from the west around midday will make slow erratic progress east across the region, some places will see snow, some more than others as it will become patchy in nature as the evening/night progresses. elevation not much of an issue tomorrow as surface and air temp will be pretty cold, though through the night it will turn to sleet/rain lower down. latest euro4 model has less chance of snow this run compared to earlier run and not as intense as latest bbc forecast shows so, best wait for morning runs. and snow accumulations as of wed 12 noon
  18. Well that was fun while it last, big area of showers now moving from north sea around durham/sunderland/tyneside areas... suspect these to be mainly sleet/rain near coast and a bit wet snow away from higher hills. I would expect these to die away over the next hour or so though. A692 County Durham - Very slow traffic on A692 in both directions between the A693 junction in Consett and the B6310 Front Street junction in Burnopfield, because of snow.
  19. giant flakes of snow here at the moment, was no lying snow and dry when i got home... now like a blizzard and covered in snow. not bigging it up either, really bad.
  20. Will be after midnight for sure, it's the area of showers currently over north east scotland that will be heading down the north sea to our patch... futher south you live longer it will take and prob not as intense maybe.
  21. Weather warning for tonight been updated to include more of north east england... towards the pennines. Wintry showers are now becoming more frequent across northern and northeast Scotland with a spell of more persistent sleet and snow likely to develop by Sunday evening, moving southwards across some other parts of eastern Scotland and then northeast England later in the night. Inland and above about 200 m this may lead to snow accumulations of 2-5 cm, with greater amounts at higher altitudes. Meanwhile, along the coast a mixture of rain and sleet looks more likely, and with road temperatures falling below freezing this will lead to some icy stretches on untreated surfaces. The public should be aware of the potential for difficult driving conditions and slippery surfaces. This warning has been updated to include more of northern Scotland, and also a broader portion of northern England, where recent showers of rain, sleet and snow are likely to enhance the risk of ice on Sunday evening.
  22. Well that didn't fill me full of promise well country file forecast was pretty poor to be honest, to much uncertainty regarding this week so will come down to now casting on the day for snow (will it wont it)
  23. Really? how do you assume this?... i hope not
  24. Hopefully temp will fall steadily now and freeze the ground as it wont be till after midnight before we see the next batch of wintry shower head south down the eastern side of our region. Latest euro4 snow/rainfall chart for midnight and 6am
  25. heavy snow now, starting to settle aswell... pretty big flakes and temp dropping further to 1.1c
