No Storms Club 2017 Season
Pursuer of Storms replied to Cheshire Freeze's topic in Storms & Severe Weather
Sadly none today. Although I know there can never be any certainty with storms I'd say the forecasts got my hopes up. They seemed to be certain some would pass over MK heading north today but nothing other than some cells in the distance this morning. -
The convection has started to explode around Milton Keynes during the past hour! The pileus is strong with this cell. Taken just now.

Not sure if Milton Keynes is in the firing line today but given all the Altocumlus there was earlier, I wouldn't be surprised if we do see some. These were taken a couple of hours ago.

Wish I had done a little video of it now. It does seem quite smooth around the bottom in the second and third pics. Not saying I don't believe you though! You and the other folks know more about these than I do. Sorry if it seems like a silly ask. It's just not often that I see something like this. Plus, I've always wanted to get shots or video of a funnel cloud/tornado, so my wishful thinking probably made me think I had got something that wasn't there.

Hi everyone, I was looking towards the south west end of Milton Keynes around 1pm today when I spotted what looked like a funnel cloud. Lots of cumulus clouds of various shapes and sizes in the sky at the time but this was coming from one of the smaller pieces. It was visible for a couple of minutes before dissipating. I can't say I saw any rotation while taking shots of but when it was dissipating it did look as if it had been spinning. These are the best shots I got of it. What do you guys think?

Supercell or not Windblade, it was blooming spectacular! Put all the other cells around it to shame. Wish I had got a better view of it. Discovered a spot later on where I probably would have had a perfect view of it from top to base but by that time, it was long gone. Looking forward to see what this week has in store!

Wall Cloud With Funnel? - Storm Chase (18/06/16)

From the album: Milton Keynes Weather
It was quite hard to tell what was going on here as this was quite far off in the distance but that feature in the middle appeared quite suddenly and was gone in a couple of minutes. -

This was from the cell which battered Buckingham and surrounding areas with A LOT of rain that evening. It hit MK at around 9pm. -

Distant storms to the north west of Milton Keynes. -

Large cell bubbling up to the north east of Milton Keynes at around 7.30pm. -
Thank you! That storm in the first one was easily the most explosive of the lot. It was a big bubbly mass when I first saw it but then in the next twenty minutes or so after that, it exploded into the anvil you see there. Sadly couldn't get a good view of what was going on at the base. I didn't pay a great deal of attention to this thread yesterday but it seemed to be part of a squall line, pictured below. The one you mentioned was just to the right out of frame.

Just got back from a storm chase with a friend of mine. Milton Keynes and the surrounding areas got an absolute pounding! Spectacular cloud formations in all directions for the entire evening. I think the cell in the second and fourth pictures spawned a wall cloud. Couldn't see any rotation as it was very distant but it was changing shape quite rapidly in places. That was the one that bought all the rain around 9pm. Absolutely insane. Never experienced rainfall while being in a car like that in years. There wasn't much lightning in the end but still, it was great fun just watching the skies darken and the rain moving across the fields.
