This has been an absolutely amazing event here already. Had moderate driving snow since 11am and there looks to be around 5-7cm fresh accumulation on top of what fell last night and what was left on the grass from Monday! I didn't expect us to get this much in Leicestershire. It looks like we have got very lucky from this as the radar has showed moderate PPN stuck over us for a few hours now. While places like Lincoln and Peterborough are just seeing the start of it. This is forecast to last on and off into the night isn't it? And judging by the models and BBC forecasts... There's another band of snow forecast to come up from the South East on Sunday! This is already one of the best cold spells I have ever witnessed here and it's not over by a long way.

That was just me falling out of bed.

So much for Ian Brown's prediction that it wouldn't reach North Staffs. Where is he anyway? I've got a cloth with me here to wipe the egg off his face.

Been snowing in Leicester (LE3) for 20 mins now, its light but its more than just flurries. This is a good start! This PPN wasnt supposed to reach us till between 10-12 so the band must be edging further East than first thought.

Tonight has been amazing! Been snowing here since 3-4pm and there looks to be around 5cm fresh snow on the pavements and grass. Its mostly beeb light snow since 7:30pm but 20 mins ago we had a heavier burst again. I'd love it if this precip just stayed around till morning and then the 2nd band came in. That'd be great.

This is forecast to stay all night??!! It's absolutely teeming down with snow here at the moment, 50p sized flakes, no word of a lie.

SLAP BANG! Over Leicester Can't believe i'm actually seeing this, a band of snow that's actually intensified over Leicester that isn't rain or a thunderstorm. This is unbelievable. Absolutely no models or forecasters predicted this for tonight, it's not just hit and miss either, it's a mass band that covers the whole of the Midlands and it's not light here, it's big flakes.

I'm absolutely astonished mate. I thought we may get some snizzle this evening but this is crazy!! A fresh 1-2cm on all surfaces here now and the main event isn't supposed to be until tomorrow! I wonder how long it will stick around for this evening? It's actually not moving anywhere, it's just stalled over the Midlands, doesn't know what direction to move in lol,

Well called my friend! I really didn't expect it to be this heavy though! I thought we may have a period of snizzle but it's coming down in 20p sized flakes at a good pace, all surfaces that didn't have snow on earlier are now white! Wonder how long it can keep going for

It's actually linked up with that front that was moving in from the West! Here is what the radar looked like at 4pm... This is what it looks like now....

This is amazing, really didn't expect this, it's almost like the event has arrived a day early! It hasn't obviously but if this can keep going for a while we could get a covering from it, it's coming down quite heavy now and the pavements that were clear earlier...Are now white again. Looks like Leicester is in the sweet spot for once!

Well it's been snowing lightly here for 30 mins or more and it's even settling a little bit. Granted the heavier precip is out towards Melton way but we are still seeing light snow from this.

It might be today that springs a surprise...

Something may be on the cards sooner than everyone first thought! It's snowing lightly here and also reports of snow in Nottingham. The radar shows PPN that is building around the Midlands area, almost of out no where. Multi Cellular Thunderstorm just posted this in the East Midlands thread: It's expanding west now towards Nottingham. Met Office have updated their symbols... http://www.metoffice...am#?tab=fiveDay Changed to heavy snow at 18:00 This could be a nice surprise!

Snowing lightly here too, where did this come from? Didn't expect any snow at all today Radar looks like it's building up around the Midlands as well.

Where in LE3 do you live again mate? I ride over Western Park daily when I go work and there's still plenty of snow on it! Sadly most of the roads and pavements have none left though

You have to be on a wind up. I am being cautious about this event because Leicester could miss out by 20 miles or we may get a decent covering. I am by no means writing it off yet though, how you can say all warnings will be removed barring Hereford and Shropshire I have no idea. Who gave you this information?

The 06z is an upgrade for the whole of the Midlands! Lets hope now that the 12z and 18z follow suite.

I must admit, after seeing that 06z i am slightly more optimistic! Only slightly though. the 12z and 18z need to follow the 06z for me to start getting excited. Its a step in the right direction though.

The BBC forecast this morning didn't look too good for Leicester. Showed the PPN staying just South West of birmingham.

NAE is absolutely hideous. Main snow staying to our South West, if we do get snow it will be extremely light and patchy.

Had a feeling this would happen :-( i knew i shouldnt have got my hopes up about it at 2 days away. Seen so many possible great snow events go t*ts up at that timeframe.

Yeah that is true, I just don't want it to go wrong! I know we got a decent event on Monday but more often than not... Possible snow events 2-3 days away normally downgrade for us.
