    Sutton-under-whitestonecliffe is the village at the foot of Sutton Bank, a few miles east of thirsk. Sutton in craven is well over Skipton way. Sutton Bank or Garrowby Hill (between York and Driffield) would be great vantage points today.

    I watched that cell near Boroughbridge growing then seemingly weakening very quickly. Radar shows it splitting. Can't see the Knaresborough cell from my house as it's behind houses. The closest we'll get I reckon.

    That cell is looking brutal as it passes Garforth, heading to york. I can hear thunder from at least 3 directions to the west and south west. Probably missing me in East York though.

    Frequent lightning from the storm towards Driffield (E Yorks), heading north of Brid, Filey, Scarbados area. Some lovely stuff but any thunder isn't audible from 15/20 miles away. Nowt on the lightning maps though.

    Big flash of lightning to the south east of York. Maybe that cell heading east of Selby? Another one just now, directly east of me (East side of York), a triple flash with a big C-C. Zero thunder though. Edit - and another.

    I'm sat on a rooftop terrace in Madrid watching lightning in 3 different directions, yet lightningmaps shows it sporadic at best. Same as being at home in York watching the same yet detectors seem to miss a lot of it. Tonight ive watched 2 distinct cells, one from the south one from the north, join up and produce nothing for so long and now theres so much lightning yet minimal thunder.

    Now split in 2 with the new one having intesified quickly? Seems to be plodding NE, albeit very slowly. That puts it on a direct line for York.

    Just seen a huge flash miles away to my ESE, probably coming from that tiny cell near Market Weighton on the western edge of the E Yorks rain band. Thunder was really faint but prolonged and that cell has popped up very quickly from another decaying cell from looking at the radar returns.

    Verified. Formed a line between (almost) Donny and York, some of it died as it reached York but it spawned another cell that formed just north of York (towards Helmsley). Caught a couple of flashes to the south and had a see bit of moderate rain but it's moving more eastwards now - I'm on the east side of York but wouldn't be surprised at some major rainfall rates from the south side of town and a bit further south.

    That line of heavy stuff between Donny and York has literally just become electrical. Seen 2 flashes from it, and it's slow moving. First thunder I've heard in months

    What part of York? I'm on outskirts of Heworth off Stockton Lane and thunder is quite distant, literally only now is the rain starting

    Jesus, this has got my attention. Just woke up having left it about half 12. Refreshed the radar and jumped out of me skin - this looks nasty.

    Whatever it is, it's chucking out a lot of rain, and the wind is howling which is bizarre as the rain is coming straight down. No lightning yet though

    Cell just formed near Selby and intensifying as it moves north, no thunder yet but gone very gloomy in York Edit: first rumble of thunder, and another about 30 secs later 2nd edit: possibly some IC spotted, thunder low volume but frequent
