  1. Still nothing here yet, but you are more exposed over there. rain has eased right off for now. just had a wee check and the wind has picked up just a little. will give it until 2am then sleep kaz cancel that rain is bucketing down again now.
  2. the wind does seem to be tracking more along the english channel areas from what i can see on the wind observation map. some very serious winds there. http://www.xcweather.co.uk/ Very very sad to hear the news of the young lad i saw earlier that the search had been called off. kaz
  3. how many on here are going to manage to stay up? I think I will give it another hour. Thanks to all who are still awake and posting makes for a great overview of what is going on out there. keeeeep posting. kaz
  4. we have no problems here very very calm, just having lots of rain but we are used to that. No storm here very quiet. And yes it is a great place
  5. yeah my thoughts exactly. But to be honest over the last few days it has been really windy, now it calmer than it has been. i bet the sea over your way will look great tomorrow.. I am in Landkey so even more sheltered here as down in the valley. nice to see someone else from north devon on here will stay up for a few hours so we wait and see. kaz
  6. Storm? what storm? we have no wind at all. just rain. OH wait I can confirm a leaf has just fallen of a tree. Sorry only joking, just feeling a little smug.. I am just soo glad I am not going to be affected by this but am very sorry if people do have a few problems. listening to all the hype on the news makes it sound like a cat 5 hurricane is arriving. Which it is NOT.. take care .... kaz
  7. no problems down here, just rain which is very normal. Mind you thankfully we are out of the firing line re- wind later on. Would not like to be along the English Chanel. So all OK, and I dont expect it to change. think we had higher winds last night a during the day but all gone now. fingers X it stays like that. kaz
  8. moderate rain here in Barnstaple, wind has now died back to gentle breeze. Reading posts on other sites are the high winds most expected along the English Chanal and more the East of the county, rather than here in north devon north cornwal etc? Really not sure what to expect here if anything. Its been a very confusing day on all threads and other sites.. None are as good as this one though. Kaz Landkey Barnstaple
  9. Hi I have to say that speaking to people around North Devon they feel we will be on the shelted side so are not worried at all. They also go on to say that North Devon is never mentioned they just talk of Devon as a whole think they forget we are on to sepearate coasts North Cornwal North Somerset ETC.. I honestly dont know what to say, maybe they are right most of North Devon away from exposed hights and coasts wont even notice. So I suppose we will have to wait and see.. Any info would be greatly recieved.. kaz
  10. the last time we were forcast theses types of weather conditions, I kid you not that there was not a leaf moving outside my door. It turned out that I was right in the center so no wind at all.. I did see the news of total deverstaion around me and could not believe that not a leaf moved here So if it it going up the Bristol Chanel maybe we will get lucky again. I bet the seas are going to look lovely on monday, I did see on another thread that some idiot is sailing from Cornwall to the Scils on Monday. I can only hope that was a joke. Anyhow nothing can stop windy weather. Just take care all those on the coast as the tide might be a tad higher than normal. Regarding trees they have done a pretty good job over the years to get rid of dangerous trees and branches. I think we are going to be just fine.. All those in Scotland are prob wondering what all the fuss is about, just a normal day up there
  11. Oh dear..where has the time gone I remember when there were only 50 of us on here. GREAT site And GREAT people. couldnt ask for more. Kaz x
  12. All the electricity is being turned off in my area on Tuesday from 9 to 5.. As we are all electric I am defo hoping that either we have such bad weather they wont be able to work on the line's or it all falls apart and just my area end up with warmth Without heat or any means of a hot drink I am gunner freeeeezzz... So here is hoping Barnstaple get a flipping heat wave kaz xx
  13. yup same here, It feels more like spring than winter here. Out of the whole winter we have only had 1 to 2 weeks where it has felt like winter. Bit like the summer when we had 1 week of warm temps and sun. Not complaining as saving money on the electricity bill Kaz
  14. Looks like the USA are gearing up for a massive snow event.. Typical they always have to do things bigger and better than anywhere else including the flipping weather And what do we get? NOTHING but RAIN kaz x
  15. Not a bad day all in all, mostly sunny with a few wintry showers, very windy still but temps are not down as much as i thought they would be. Think the most intense showers have missed me nothing showing on radar now. Looks like the weather will slowly improve as the week goes on. Temp wise it has not been a bad Jan or Feb considering the amount of snow that has fallen. The last few years we were seeing temps of -12 -15, think we got down to -5 for one night only. Only talking of my area not anywhere else. Kaz
  16. It looks and feels just like summer out there. temps are nearly the same as they were in August. Windy+Rain+ flooding yup a typical summers day here ... Not looking great for Friday the MO have a warning out for rain but reading it they are hinting at the possibility for strong winds to develop. One to watch me thinks. kaz x
  17. I was hiking on Exmoor a few years ago, we had just climbed up from a deep valley so we were on top of a rage of hills called the chains, it was a hot sunny day (shows you how long ago it was) when out of the blue this massive black angry cloud grew heading in our direction. We were very exposed even the trees up there were smaller than we were. the lightning was so intense that it took your breath away and the sound of thunder was overwhelming. The fear just rooted you to the spot until commonsense set in and I realized we were the tallest thing up there. The rain/hails, wind thunder and lightning had total transformed the landscape within minutes. To my left I noticed a small gully so I grabbed my hubby and threw us both into it. We lay face first in mud and stale water. While the storm seemed to be circulating around us I took a sneaky peek and saw lightning hitting the ground and bouncing. Then all of a sudden there was just a blinding white flash and the smell of burning, 2 feet away stood a small tree and it was where we had been stood moments before it was just a chard black smoldering stump. It seemed to take forever for the storm to pass. By the time we got back to the car I was still shaking. Still has not stopped me standing in back garden during a storm or chasing them. But I take great care. kaz
  18. prob spelt it wrong... it is a term How b yea naking fore... how are you
  19. All that means is I going to see how mother is and i hope temps drop when the sun setts. nisseldraft is a very old devon and somersett saying means worse than the runt off the litter. (normally use for small moaning woman) Just been out and its thick sludge white up on the hills, thawing fast, did look like it was getting brighter but gone dull here again. kaz x
  20. Hi guys well stopped snowing and starting to turn to slush SO not happy as I wanted it to pitch more, hope temps start going down when it starts to get dimsey. Hark at me I sound like a moaning nisseldraft. There think i got in enough Devonian and one for Offerman . Sorry couldn't resist, going over to Mothers to see how she be knakingfore. kaz
  21. What do you think Olly more to come or rapid thaw? told mother to cancel GP's one less thing for me to have to do its not like she is ill its just she likes going to Doc's just incase. kaz
  22. Still snowing here looks like a winter wonderland. meant to be taking mother inlaaw doc's later is this going to continue or shall i tell her to cancel?? so hard to tell looking at radar as it does not look like its moving? dont want to tell her to cancel if it turns back to rain in a few hours or thaws. thoughts please guys. . kaz
  23. just started sleeting here.. to wet to settle. very light have to really squint to see it
  24. Its like watching paint dry.. Temps have now gone to 1c Its moving so slow. IT seems to get to Landkey and go round back up the link road. pluss its just fizzling out as it reaches us due to it moving so slow kaz
  25. Hubby just said they have got a guy to come in up chip board just to sit there all night and clear any snow.. The way its going he is going to be sat there all night doing nothing.. Dont forget there are traffic lights on the link road so it might get held up kaz
