Vicious squall line just passed over dropping plenty of rain in a short time.
It's just going over me now, fair bit in that.

How did we get to Justine from Christoph?
This storm was named by the Portuguese Met Service, who have a different list of names to the one we use in the United Kingdom, Ireland and the Netherlands.
(*ping @Jo Farrow* Referring to the end of the first paragraph "More later on why this is 'J' not 'C' for the storm name after Boxing Day Bella.", shouldn't the 'C' be 'D' as we've already had Storm Christoph?)

That latter forecast from yesterday for this morning pretty much matches this mornings reading.

Snow started 6:29am (time from the second-previous reading) and ended 6:56am. Then started back up at 7:11am until 7:41am.

I can’t blame anyone, but if the forecasts are consistently this way out why bother with the computing power and the time and effort? Or at least look at what we need to do to better the system. I’m just aghast at how many days on the trot it’s got it so, so wrong. I haven’t even been able to catch a storm when I’ve tried.
So for this reason I am giving up on the rest of the year for storms. Not going to believe one forecast. I’m going to make my own assumptions (that it won’t happen) and will just nowcast, perhaps. But probably will just do something else instead.
2020 has been a total waste of time weatherwise.
Not really one to sound like 'that guy', bud, but do remember that models are lacking in a fair lot of data whilst the pandemic is still on-going.
I was 'storm-dry' for a couple of years (back when all was fine) and even though warnings were in place, etc. I just passed it off as "oh well, maybe another day", then just like waiting for a bus, loads came along.
The 'will it, won't it' thing is the best part of the weather. Chin up and fingers crossed you'll get something soon. *passes you a pint* #keepSmiling- 1

Some lovely loud and 'deep' rolling rumbles from that Swindon cell that's recently appeared from nowhere on the radar. Lovely way to start the morning. Gimme more!

Yep you sure know about it when a +CG comes along. We had one close to here last Tuesday night and it sounded like an explosion...I was at the window and you could feel the glass vibrate.
+CG's are the ones I absolutely love - I enjoy them because of their sound, but also because (especially when it's at night) The Mother absolutely craps herself, it's so so funny. She's fine with them during the day, but during the hours-of-darkness she doesn't like them.

I'm back from venturing out to the field to embrace the storm and wow. Drenched is not the word... my t-shirt and joggers and trainers are soaked right through. I could barely see 2 metres in front of me for the curtain of rain and it was hammering it down so hard that the rain felt like hail (even though it wasn't). The roads and some paths here are rivers, the local boozer are sweeping out water from the inside (even though they're on the top of a hill).
The thunder was awesome to hear, sadly because of the 'curtain of rain', I couldn't properly see the lightning - like I saw flashes, but nothing fork-like.
Certainly was impressed with that.

Four really 'deep' rumbles here. That's my cue to venture out. Stay safe folks.

Oh I absolutely LOVE it when seeing cells just appear out of nowhere on the radar... so much more exciting.
Thunder heard here! Yes boi!
