Just as the snow was beginning to stick, it's almost stopped now!
-
What's all this about snow melt, the warmest 850s were at 3pm today, they've already started getting colder.
-
PPN seems to have fizzled out around coastal areas of NE Wales and NW England. Flakes are tiny here now.
-
There are still areas, mostly areas of grass which suffered a total thaw earlier, that the snow just won't settle on. Elsewhere it's doing fine, around 5cm of fresh snow since the afternoon. Dew point is 0c but it must be in the 0-0.4c range, rather than the -0.4 to -0.1 range. Colder dew points are set to move south later so this should help.
-
Small flakes here now but heavy. Accumulation getting easier now that it's dark.
-
Seems to be settling easier now, around an inch so far. Currently 0.8c with a dewpoint of 0c
-
Finally settling here, not much just 1-2cm but that's the hard part done.
-
Those temperatures and dew points just have to go down a bit for snow to stick. It's now 1.3c here, was 2.1c about half an hour ago. Dew point of 0.
-
Absolute whiteout though still struggling to accumulate. Getting the foundations is the hardest part though.
-
Temperature dropping with the heavy snowfall now. 2.1 to 1.7 in around 10 minutes. Making a better effort at sticking but not quite there yet.
-
The places to the East that aren't getting much usually get absolutely plastered whilst we miss out, it's our turn!
ok fair point. I was in Leeds when the January snow events happened so I can't complain
-
It won't die a death before it gets here, but god, the mountains are really taking the best of the energy out of this thing. What a shame!
We're only suffering from 1 snow shadow from North Wales mountains, spare a thought for the people to our east suffering from the N. Wales snow shadow and the Pennines snow shadow.

The band has arrived here in Liverpool. Light-moderate snow, not sticking at the moment, guessing I'll have to wait till 6-7pm for that to start.
-
That north wales gap is closing on the latest radar.
-
On and off snow here, getting very marginal though and not settling. No sleet or rain yet which is a very good surprise. If we can keep a layer of snow on the ground until 4-5pm then hopefully accumulation will be easy when the merged band arrives.
-
Temp and dew points have gone up here. Looks like 4c and dew point of 0c will be the starting conditions here. Hope that doesn't do too much damage before the colder temperatures set in.

Right in the middle of that amber

MO have actually taken down the warning for Saturday lol.

John McEnroe just said.... "You Cannot Be Serious"
Surely 75CM = Serious RED Alert from the Metoffice Warnings? NAEFS Progs a serious white picture for Northern England. 10-20CM Quite widely, at lower levels.
Think about if this was an all rain event, hills in N. Wales would easily see 75mm from that. So 75mm wouldn't be out of the question for places like Snowdon surely.

Ian how's it looking for Liverpool? it's definitely north enough unless anything changes and it looks to be in a good area in terms of precipitation amounts, but the coast always puts this area at a disadvantage in snow events.

I should hope so, dew point is easily low enough for snow to settle so it should be far easier tonight. If only they were this low yesterday!
