And we're back up, and onto our own servers again. There may be the odd bump in the road as we fine tune, including initially some broken profile images, which will be rebuilt over the next hour or so..

Apologies for the slowness yet again tonight, it's being caused by the same database/cache error that's been popping up frequently of late. I've raised a ticket with invision. The aim was to get the community back to our servers on Thursday, but I'll try to push and get it done tomorrow if possible...

ANYWEATHER It's things like buildings, trees etc blocking the radar beams. There's a bit of info on that in this article if you want to know some more Understanding Weather Radar WWW.NETWEATHER.TV How does the rain radar work? There is a network of radar stations across the UK and Ireland scanning the skies and outputting images showing rain, snow and thunderstorms helping the weather forecast.

I think we will likely be making the move to our own servers at some point this or next week, depending on us completing all our testing, and on what the weather looks like from midweek. There will be up to a few hours of downtime when we switch, but then everything should work as normal, albeit hopefully without the periodic slow downs and downtimes.

Thank @Paul H for updating us on tour 1's happenings - hope you had a great trip

So, just to confirm, we will be moving the community back to our own servers in the near future. As above, this is just a hosting thing, the community will continue to run on the same software so will carry on looking and working in the same way. I'm not sure when we'll be making the move. We've started building the servers up and testing this side already, so once everything is good to go, we'll set a move date.

Metwatch You're misunderstanding a little I think. We won't be changing the forum software, just where it's hosted. So, beyond a few hours of downtime on the day we switch (assuming we do, as we've not made a final decision yet), there'll be no visible change.
-
It's luck of the draw in some respects. The periods where it slows down or goes down have tended to be very short in the main.

We're pretty likely to be switching back to our own servers for the community at some point in the next few weeks. Once we've reached a final decision I'll confirm in here one way or the other.

It's not throttling, it's the same caching / database error we had a day or so back. I've raised a ticket with invision (again), so hopefully they'll get to the bottom of it asap. We're nearing the end of our hosting contract with them, so will be making a decision on whether to bring the community servers back in house again very soon ..

Does sound like there's a decent chance again tonight, but maybe not as far south as last night. There is a bit more cloud around today as well.

There's an issue with the community currently, making it very slow.. I've raised with Invision so hopefully they'll sort it soon.

News from the Met Office on the Shannon radar, and finally, a (fairly) firm date.
