  1. Thank you Tamara for your reasoned, informative posts. They are really helpful to all in our region. It has been quite a nice afternoon here. A mixture of blue skies and white cloud, although as darkness began to fall some dark clouds were appearing on the eastern horizon. It is realativey still as well. The temperature is 5.8 and did feel a bit chilly when I went out into the mud bath/ garden a few minutes ago!
  2. Just like to add my thoughts and best wishes to BJkent and SussexJules. Having been through something similar with my Mum a good few years ago, I hope you can keep things positive, it does help, and I wish you both the best. Katie, I hope things are not so bad as they first seem, and that you have a good weekend with your family. We have had a rare bit of sunshine here this morning - quite a shock!. It had clouded over now and the wind is beginning to pick up. Awaiting the next rain to see what happens to the river near here. The fields are under water again, so it will not take too much to flood again.
  3. So glad to hear the good news about your daughter Chilly Milly. I wish you and your daughter all good wishes on the road to recovery for her. It is still raining heavily here. River Uck is on flood alert, but would not be surprised if it's raised to a flood warning at some time if this continues for another few hours. Looking at JPs charts it's not looking good for the weekend is it? I was looking at pictures from Swanage n Dorset where we go on holiday every year and could not believe how high the sea level had got to come up over the harbour wall. We have had it pretty bad here, but the West Country has been really battered. I feel so sorry fir those who have had their houses and businesses flooded.
  4. Grey, miserable start here today with temperature not cold at 8 degrees. Just awaiting the next deluge and fast running out of towels to dry myself and the dog off! House is beginning to resemble a laundry trying to dry them all off. Keep safe if you need to be outdoors today.
  5. Well, the storm has arrived here in our part of East Sussex. It was quite nice first thing, but has deteriorated rapidly in the last 2 hours. It is lashing down and the gusts are making the house rattle! Not good if you are out and about. Just heard on our local news that the old Brighton pier has split in two. These continuing storms are causing such havoc across the whole of the southern part of Britain. I feel so sorry for people who gave had their homes damaged by the floods and winds. If you are out and about this afternoon, take care.
  6. In the middle of yet another hail shower! We've had a mixture of sun, rain sleety hail, hail and sunshine on and off all day here. Spent all getting wet, drying off and getting wet again as we went about our chores! Temps currently 5.9. And to make matters worse, we were beaten by the French in the rugby! Not a good Saturday.
  7. Morning CK. Really interesting reading your post this morning. Especially as it was so personal to you. Whenever I read accounts like this, the thing that strikes me apart from the bravery of all those who fought, is how young they all were. My sons are 23 and 16 and firstly the thought of them fighting fills me with dread ,and secondly, that young people seem so immature these days compared to these brave lads that you have written about. That is no disrespect to my 2 who are really lovely young men and take care of me really well,, but I do wonder if they have the same sense of responsibility that older generations had. Anyway, back to the weather. There is actually something bright and shining here this morning - I think it may be sunshine! Can see patches of blue sky from my bedroom window. We had so much rain here over night that I have water lying on the patio and I think a moat may be forming! It is quite calm here at the moment, but I think the high winds are set to reach here by lunch time. Batten down the hatches again, and have a safe day everyone.
  8. Good morning all. Foggy start here today and the temperature is -0.5 at the moment so chilly too. Barcome Mills near here is on flood alert, so fully expecting things to get a lot worse with the heavy rain predicted for later on today. Take care if you are out and about today - wellies, wet weather gear and strong brollies are the order of the day I think!
  9. Good morning everyone. Wet, grey and misty here. Temps risen to 4 in the last half hour, but it's really murky with a horrible persistent drizzle. Going to meet a friend for lunch and she has just sent me a message to bring wellies( she lives at the end of a country lane) as the ground is so wet! Wondering if I should take an inflatable boat as well just in case! Have a good day all.
  10. Still raining here too! It is a chilly 3.6 Even the cats have stopped going out! Perhaps we could have a "Lets guess the day when we will have a whole 24 hours without rain" competition!
  11. Morning all. Really, really miserable here this morning. Rain, rain and more rain and 4.6. Is danky a word(dank+murky)! If this goes on for much longer I think we will all evolve webbed feet! Have a good day whatever you are doing!
  12. Good morning all. Well, disappointed to get up and hear rain on the conservatory roof as I came downstairs! It's 2.6 here but the precipitation is falling as icy rain. Glad that some areas had some snow, just not our turn. Oh well, I shall remain optimistic that we might see some flakes of snow sometime before spring arrives! Have a good day whatever you are doing, and be careful on the roads as they could be icy, as just heard on the radio major delays on M23 around Gatwick due to a multi car pile up.
  13. Good morning everyone. It's grey and miserable here this morning and felt fresh when I let the dog out this morning. Weather station reading 4.9 . It is also very still - the calm before the storm perhaps? Birds are all on the feeders and eating the berries on the cotoneaster, so it looks like they are stocking up. Have parents coming for lunch, so busy day cleaning and cooking. Have a good day whatever you are doing, and keep our fingers crossed that maybe we might see some of the white stuff this week.
  14. Morning everyone. It's a chilly 2 here and quite foggy. Can just about see the houses across the way from me! Take care if you are out and about early. I think I will postpone the dog walk until I can see where I am going!!
  15. Good morning all. Murky and damp sums up this morning in Uckfield! It's 7.4 so a warmish start compared to recent days. Very envious of your day MK- it sounds wonderful! I did Geology A level many moons ago, and would love to see a volcano! Have a lovely day and enjoy the experience.
  16. Anyone watching Winterwatch on bbc2 at the moment? It's snowing up in Scotland where it's coming from. I think this may be the nearest I might see to falling snow over the winter!
  17. Good morning everyone. It is really foggy here, visibility not good for driving. It's 2.6 so no where near as cold as yesterday. Take care if you are all driving this morning as it looks horrible out there. Thanks for all the posts JP. They set really helpful for our area, and I hope you manage to get some sleep today!
  18. Lovely to wake up to calm sunshine this morning! View from bedroom window blue sky and a few fluffy white clouds! Not seen that in a while. I love lazy Sunday mornings reading the newspaper and not having to rush! Youngest son off out to Brighton and the oldest and I might take the dog to the coast for a walk, then back in time for a roast dinner. Perfect! Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing, and enjoy the sunshine whilst it is here.
  19. Good morning everyone! Like the rest of our area, it's dull and currently 7.9 here. Looks like it may be a bit livelier later on. Hope everyone has a good day whatever they are doing. I am spending the day catching up on paper work - very boring, so a rumble of thunder might be welcome to break up the boredom!
  20. Been reading through the thread today, and realised what a great bunch of people you all are! I think we all hope that our children (and us "grown up" too) have someone in their lives as well as their parents, that gives them the self confidence to believe that they can achieve their goals and dreams in whatever field that might be. Everyone has a contribution to make, whatever their starting point may be. I am always saying to my boys that we all can't be the same, and it is not wrong to be different from the next person. I hope that all of those that are having or experiencing trials at the moment get through them and come out the other side. On a weather note, it has been a really mucky, murky day here. Varing degrees of rain and just plain miserable! Had to finish off the Christmas chocolate just to get through it!( well, that's my story and I am sticking to it!) just hoping that the incessant rain will stop at some time, and be replaced by colder, clearer weather and looking a JP's charts we need to keep, our fingers crossed!
  21. Good morning everyone. It's wet and windy here, but fairly warm at 9.2. Skies are grey and looks very dull! Looks like a wet and muddy dog walk this morning. May I add Happy Birthday to John for today. Hope you have an enjoyable one whatever you are doing, and thanks for all your hard work keeping us informed.
  22. Morning everyone. Can't believe I am looking out my window at frost on cars and roofs and it is actually not raining! Temp is - 1.2 here and it almost seems impossible that by later today we will be back to our default setting of wind and rain! I would think the roads will be pretty slippery with the ice forming on them, so take care if you are out early. I am going to enjoy a cup of tea, read the paper and look at this almost winter landscape whilst I can! Have a good Sunday.
  23. Well, we have the thunder here too now. Didn't see any lightning, but 2 deep booms of thunder. Wind picking up. Curiously, it's not raining! (Yet!)
  24. Heavy rain and windy here now. The worst seems to have passed to the west and north of us here. No hail or thunder and lightning. Amazing pictures of the hail, I would hate to be out in that!
