Just to prove there is snow not far from Stoke:

-
The wind still really impressive which means I can pretend is snow falling but is just blowing snow. The radar hole keeps getting worse for this area. The Peaks are getting battered still just slightly north.
It is so quiet on the roads tonight here, yet I see gridlock across Birmingham.
-
Matt you need to travel to the north of Hanley, plenty here. Head to Brown Edge for an even better snow fix.
-
Just been up onto the Staffs Moorlands and the wind was brutal. The snow is drifting to around 4ft in places. Had a good walk round, back down at lower level now and its blowing a gale here still. Looks like snow won't make it through the night here now.

Looking good some forecasters may have egg on their faces after today. Shame l
This happens every big snow event. I still think the heavy stuff will be out west but there seems to be a shift east. Lets face it the forecast has been wrong the last few days.

The wind is picking up all the time, to see the snow swirling around is quite something.

I can see a hole developing again over Staffordshire. Story of the day it seems with this frontal band. Not convinced the heavy precip will arrive here.
-
The wind is crazy back here in Stoke. Some parts of the ground are bare virtually and then there are drifts forming. Never seen anything like it!

Looks like the bands are merging across Staffs now.

This is the state of things up near Flash: https://www.winkingman.co.uk/webcam/

I can't figure out the radar this morning, it seems to be acting weird on Rain Today. All I know is that we have had more heavy showers moving in overnight giving an additional coating, down here in Birmingham, there is snow in the air but not a great deal on the ground.

Not so sure. They look too far south to me? The occasional one that is a little further north just dies.
Shower here now and wind picked up.

I normally like walking in the cold but the air was actually stinging my skin tonight! Must be one of the coldest walks I've ever done. Can't think of many times I've experience lower temperatures other than in December 2010. Currently -7'C, with a windchill of -14'C.
You want to get yourself up to Flash during a typical winters day when the wind blows. That said the temp down here is probably that of a normal day up there!

Well I'm seeing on Rain Today a whole batch of showers heading straight for Stoke through the night. Yes that early streamer was a little south, but I can tell you having just walked the dog, there is certainly flurries in the air. And the wind is even worse than this afternoon, real biting now.
-
These showers seem to be merging into one band potentially in a sort of NW direction from the Wash? I can't help think maybe the West Midlands will get in on more action as well as Stafford/Shropshire.

Wash Gap streamer setting up. Either going to be get dumped on in the next few hours or it's going to pass a few miles to my south.
I think south of city will do well from this. Further north where I am there appears to be a gap in the radar returns and maybe the Peak District will swallow some of it up.
-
Some interesting showers pushing west across North Midlands in the next hour, looks like a semi-streamer setup for Stafford.

Here was my video from earlier, missed the worst of it but this gave a good idea of the intensity of the wind for a while:

I'm now classing that mini dump earlier as pretty epic around 4.30. Only second time at this level I've seen blowing and drifting snow, it really was intense for a period. Then the most perfect sunset on what has been a stunningly cold day.
-
Had a mini blizzard an hour ago, winds picked up to make visibility shocking, combined with blowing snow was quite unique. Gave a good dumping too.
-
Come back to a nice few CM of powder snow. Even mini drifting against the fence and door. Variable snow amounts over such short distances mind, all the way back up the M6 some fields had little and others a good coating.
I'm off to brave Flash if the road has cleared, think windchill there will be severe today. -4C here even in bright sun, lowest day max I've seen.
-
Showers slow to come in Birmingham. Watching up north at Leek it looks worse.
-
Nice showers today with settling in shady spots. Very powedery and mini drifts next to fences etc.
I guess with the main snow coming Friday now, I will be missing the final throw of the dice as I'm out of the country from Fri morning to Mon morning.
-
A tiny dusting this morning but nothing else. Looks like the main band was further north.
