Euro4 midday 850/1000 thicknesses
if you’re in the greens then you will have melting of any snow
The palest blue shoud be ok, have minimal melt and whatever falls from the sky be white. That pale blue line pulls back se as the day progresses and the decaying occlusion heads back se (Hirlam and ec are a little less kind re dp’s Which edge that arc positive a bit further nw )
Slight thaw going on even as snow falls judging by dripping noise which has probably contributed to lower overall accumulation. Still, considerably better than expected!

Well I caught the tail end of that streamer that has caused the Amber warning so got some more snow than I expected. However looks like Reading area really copped it last night. Guildford area must have done well as well
Yes, did alright in the end. Decent covering and it's snowing again now. Definitely looks like the last of it now. Time to see if we'll be doing the school run now!

I notice that the forecast maximum here for tomorrow has slipped from 4 to 2 degrees. I'm sure having a fresh snow pack has made the difference!

This is crazy, just stop snowing; just seen an on-site security block try to clear his car and he just didn't bother!
There must be loads lying up towards High Wycombe and Stokenchurch. I always go there when it's a bit marginal here and they've been under the heavy bands of PPN for almost as long as us.
Still going!

Visibility has significantly reduced in last 15 minutes, almost whiteout! Accumulations of 7-8cm in places more than I expected. Probably one more hour of this and then game over?
I think PPN is starting to slowly dissipate now. We could be stuck under it for a while yet but looks like it's easing slowly.

Yes, it just keeps on coming! Been incredibly lucky all night; snow has been filling all around us so every time it looks like stopping we get another burst.

Coming down harder than ever now and wind has picked up too. Looks great out there!

Hammering down with snow again in Three Mile Cross. 6.5 on Murr scale.

Right I really am out this time. Somehow managed to snatch a dusting out of what looked like total disaster...shame it took the final backedge to be able to do anything at all, and unfortunately I'm well and truly one of the losers here tonight, but there you go...I'll be back again next time I'm sure, like the sucker I am!!
Hopefully, you won't have to put up with miserable Kold next time (sorry if it took the gloss off guys, it was just a little surreal and probably one of the biggest weather letdowns I've ever had to stomach in my 15 years on here). Now I know how Paul S must have felt like during the Feb 09 snow streamer.
@kold weather goes all in, turns the river card and sinks...goodnight.
Sorry!

Were just into the second band-
Front circulation is beginning to pivot now !
Pivoting and pirouetteing in just the right place for those just south of Reading!

For areas to my north - looks like the band is starting to pivot around, could be a decent fall in Guildford area for example.
Yes. Noticed that clouds seem to coming from a NE direction now. Could the worm be turning?
Could be good for here again if it does.

Main roads are totally clear. Gritters have done their job well.

Yes. If the temperature drops back below freezing I think we'll see a bit more depth. The snow was very wet when I was out walking and I suspect that the snow has compacted as temperature has been around 0.2-0.3 for past couple of hours.
Blob to south of Reading seems to be keeping its intensity and is heading straight for me so looking ok. Probably a bit too far west for you though

This band actually is the real deal this time, looks like the backedge has enough instability to finally piunch through whatever dry layer has been say over us all night.
Time to start getting undressed?

Looks like Reading/Bracknell were on the eastern edge of the good stuff. Some reports of pretty decent falls further west.
