Sun breaking through now. In these humid set ups a bit of sun causes the temperature to rocket.

They are computer generated and not to be relied upon. I know people who plan their days out a week in advance based on them! Madness!
-
And it’s still overcast.

This heatwave is going well.
What an utterly vile day! Still we have had a really nice couple of weeks.
Hopefully things will be better over the weekend, although every time I look at the predicted temps they are getting lower and lower.

Going to take some to clear this crud left over from storms and rain its almost misty here in Marlow.
Not sure we will see the sun this far inland today, no signs of it burning away at all and there is quite a lot of it
No chance of this cloud shifting today. Just look at the satellite picture.

Great to see such good runs on 12z output.
It’s a mystery why people on the other side are saying the fine spell is over?

Light rain here. The heavy stuff according to the radar is further north over Suffolk and Norfolk.
-
Cloudy until 8.30am here, but cloud broke and now beautiful blue skies!

Get a grip some of you. One of the best Mays in recent years and some people are moaning.
14c may be below the long term average but I challenge you to find a May where at least a day or two hasn’t seen such a temperature. Even some historically warm months have below average days.
The number of days this month where the temperature has been above average is pretty remarkable.

Not at all, all I’m saying is that three days ago expectation was 26-31c over a widespread area and mostly sunny skies, now 25-26 over a smaller area with a lot more cloud could be disappointing (clearly not if you get a max of 25/26) especially for those under the daytime cloud and rain which will massively limit temps.
The models weren’t indicating wall to wall sunshine, even a few days ago. Those runs showing temps of 32c were never realistic.

The anomaly charts have been wrong on numerous occasions. Not saying they are, but if all of the op runs contradict it, I wouldn’t be backing over them.
I have seen anomaly charts showing a black hole over Greenland at 7 days, only for them to be wrong.

The models are all starting to firm up on the idea of a big Greenland/arctic high forming in around a weeks time...

Never a great thing to see at this time of the year.I’d rather it happened now than in summer.

Is that confirmed? That I think would set a new record...

I l we'll be just shy of the record. When's the hottest part of the day? 4pm?
It varies, depending on time of year, humidity, wind, uppers etc.

Northolt 28.8C. Only 0.6C short of record.
-
Northolt 27C at 1pm
-
Heathrow 25.7C at midday.

29.4C is the April record. Not sure what the second highest April temp is, or even the April 19th date record.
-
Higher uppers today, less wind and higher starting temperature. 28C not out of the question.

I was in the circle line and district line which was like a sauna for most of the day.
At least those trains have air con. The Central line in high summer, that’s what you call hot!

Look like we will breach the first 70F and first 80F of the year on consecutive days! Don’t suppose that happens too often.

Lovely day. Hard to believe that exactly one month ago today the tenpersture was struggling to get above freezing.

The Beast from the South East looks highly likely now. Exceptional warmth for April - wonder if the 29.4C record is under threat? I know it’s too early to tell, but who knows?
