  1. A frosty night with light snow showers arriving in the morning then dry with sunny spells, max 2 deg,min -2 deg
  2. Cloudy with some light drizzle at times,max 5 deg,min 2 deg
  3. Also to not that 1917 has the highest No of airfrosts [in my area] for the extended winter October to May inclusive 1916/17 airfrosts 93 1978/79 -86 1962/63 -84 1946/47 -77 1923/24 -76 1941/42 -73 interesting that 2012/2013 is the highest since 1979 at 70 2009/2010 -57
  4. Yes you guessed right average for 1996 Jan to May inclusive is 5.25 deg with 1979 at 3.86 beating 1986 by half a degree and just taking January to April inclusive 1979 still comes out on top v 1986 at 2.05 deg and 2.27 deg respectively, both astonishing years no wonder snowdrifts remained under the walls here until late April 1986 and mid May 1979.
  5. Mainly cloudy,damp to start with some drizzle later,max 4 deg,min 1 deg
  6. Just using Met office stats for this area Jan-April 1986 is almost a degree colder than that of 2013 average 2.8 and 3.75 respectively and even including May it is still colder at 4.4 and 5.1 deg average
  7. I mentioned 1991 similar to 1993 and 1995,yes should have added 1996 but both 1991 and 1996 main events were in February even though it was cold with some snow in January. The January 1995 snow event was a very good one here, should have made more about it.
  8. Where do we start, yes no introduction needed. January 1979,the mother of all winter months, monster snow, the biggest drifts i have ever seen, severe cold. 1982 had it not been a milder start and finish it could have rivalled 1979 but the middle 2 weeks were as cold as Britain could get and monster snow. 1985 very cold, lots of snow and big drifts 1984 Mild to start with a severe destructive gale on friday 13th and a severe blizzard on the 3rd week, just how good was the 80s for snow! 1987 We didnt get the severe cold as the that in the South but it was still amazingly cold and a reasonable amount of drifting snow 1990 Burns day storm, tried to blow the house roof off and they were very heavy Yorkshire stone slates. 1991,1993 and 1995 all gave good snow events The best in recent times were 2009,2010 and 2013,such a shame 2010 didnt deliver the wind but great for snowdepth and cold Honarable mentions to 1977,1978,1986 and 2003
  9. It was very cold here in the first week of January with some snow on the 2nd,freezing nights right through. There was no snow on the 7th but a good amount of snow came on the 8thwith winds creating drifts. My motorcycle test was cancelled and we battled to get my brothers car down the farm lane from 340 metres into civilisation so we could get about. It was also very icy before becoming milder on the 9th then heavy rain arrived on the 10th leading to a fast thaw. There was some windy weather in the days following before a few colder days from the 15th then a few days of rain before the very severe main event starting with snow showers on the 23rd which brought Antarctica to these Pennine hills for 6 weeks the likes we havnt seen since.
  10. A chilly dry day with some sunny spells,max 5 deg,min -1 deg.
  11. There have been 9 months with a Cet less than 3 deg in the last 30 years whereas there were 5 in the 1990s,8 in the 1980s,6 in the 1970s and 9 in the 60s,50s and 1940s.
  12. A dull and cloudy day with some light showers,max 7 deg,min 5 deg
  13. Continuous rain overnight and much of the day much of it heavy, max 8 deg,min 4 deg.
  14. A mainly dry and sunny day with a few light showers,max 6 deg,min 4 deg
  15. The difference is we are in the Pennine hills.Even more amazing is where i used to live at 340metres just a few miles from here it is between 2 and 3 degrees colder than here in the valley all year around.Yet if you get out of the hills say Leeds or Manchester it is also a degree or two warmer than here and just an hour down the road you have Doncaster which often gets temps like southern Britain, the warmest place in the North.
  16. An odd shower,mainly dry with rain arriving later,max 7 deg,min 5 deg
  17. Thunder and lightening late yesterday with hail.Showers overnight and rain and wind to start the day.Becoming drier with a few squally showers, feeling cold, max 5 deg,min 3 deg
