  1. With you on that. I think the 'best' of Summer has all but gone now and you can certainly feel the change. Hopefully an early descent into Autumn/Winter.
  2. No chance...still have a fan on at night as I have a well insulated house and it gets too warm. didn't have the heating on all last Winter and it won't be on this Autumn/Winter until it gets significantly colder.
  3. My pumpkins, tomatoes, cucumbers and herbs are all doing fantastically this year. The apple tree is also brimming with fruit and everywhere I go the brambles are burdened with blackberries..
  4. Great photographs! They look like Silver studded blues. Lots of blues have those type of marks on the underwing.
  5. OK..I've done a quick survey of people in the street and it was 50/50....now where is he!! Lol. But seriously I know a majority of people in the UK probably prefer warm and settled, that wasn't my argument. I was just saying that there are more people than you THINK that like rain and cold. It's no big deal and not worth getting yourself in a state about...there are more important things than whether people prefer warm/cold.
  6. Don't be silly. Not everyone in the country likes heat/warmth. It's not provable so any kind of sweeping statement such as yours is generally useless. I think it's probably more foolish to pretend to know what everyone prefers.
  7. Haha...my Mum always used to say to me.....'Go an' get the candles' as soon as the lights went out and then off to bed with a night light on the table next to my bed.
  8. Brilliant memories! I remember ice on the inside of our windows, no insulation then! lol. And our boiler breaking down in the middle of Winter and trying to phone whoever to come and fix it only to find the phone lines down too...and burst pipes because of the freeze and thaw.....
  9. I'd probably think there are many more people who prefer the cold, dark and rain than are given credit for and that it's just a perception that a vast majority like the heat. It can't really be proved either way.
  10. Completely agree with what you say. I'm so much happier in Winter and Summer is the miserable season to me but you get labelled with being a misery! 'Smile, be happy...the sun's out' they say...not for me I'm afraid... Even weather presenters make me mad. The 'worst' of the weather is often the best to me. And I don't care about saving on my heating bills! I'm a cold, dark and rain lover and proud of it!
  11. Possibly but they don't look too unhealthy, just a few lighter coloured leaves here and there. Maybe something underlying perhaps.
  12. i don't know about that but they are situated in quite a damp area near a pond so I would think they are getting some water.
  13. It was breezy here a couple of days ago and I was quite surprised when I saw quite a few leaves blowing from the trees....reminded me very much of an Autumn day with a windy feel.
  14. Ok...If August is unsettled and cool then I'm having it as an Autumn month.
  15. Well, meteorological Summer does.... June, July and August. I didn't say that it would be the end of the warmth but as Summer comes to a close at the end of August the chance of getting cooler temperatures grows and the chance of warmer temperatures diminish. That's not always the case but shorter days and a weaker sun and all.....I could say that we had six months of Autumn last year, September through until March because it was such a poor Winter...It doesn't mean Winter didn't exist.
  16. I just hope that it's a bit cooler...I can't take much more heat. I know, I'm a wuss...lol.
  17. Very warm in my location. 27.8 degrees. 1015.5 mb falling. Clear and sunny. Slight breeze.
  18. Lol...I don't want to be in a blacked out cellar...just need it to be a little cooler. Yeah..it itches like mad but its gone down now...has a couple of little blisters on though..hope there aren't a thousand little horsefly larvae waiting to hatch out.....lol.
  19. Yes, I was bitten by a horsefly the other morning while walking the dogs. I had a T-shirt on because it was too warm for a coat or sweater. My arm went red and was swollen for two days. Got to watch it doesn't get infected.
  20. Only a bit of banter....don't take it so seriously....if I offended you I apologise.
  21. Pity that...maybe you should try and save, or have a whipround...I'll chip in a fiver.
  22. Hopefully it'll cool down quite a bit...etc...etc..ad infinitum.....with Summer speedily coming to a close i think you're fighting a losing battle mate . The thought of cooler weather must really grind your gears...lol
  23. Hopefully it'll cool down quite a bit and we'll see the end of this horrible warm spell. I'll certainly be glad to see the cool, wet and windy conditions back in control...lovely..... We've had the warmth, time for something different.
