Storm Eunice - 18th February
Bazza118 replied to Thunder and Lightning's topic in Storms & Severe Weather
For southern coasts the shipping forecast, at 17:25, has the area from Thames all along the south & South west coast, through the irish sea to shannon the winds reaching storm force 11 at some point, so I wouldn't be suprised if a red warning along the south coast appears at some time tomorrow. definiately not a day to go sailing. -

My brother is in Edmonton, Alberta and they are predicting 39c possibly higher on Wednesday. The record for Edmonton was 37.2c set on June 29th 1937, so it looks like that record will be easily beaten. -
The other thing worth noting on the fax chart is the low pressure out west that is forecast to come across at the weekend (possibly) to bring the mild weather. it showed as being 960MB on Sunday and is now 970MB, so with each run it is filling. it might make it harder for it to push against the cold air.

Model thread discussion - cold spell looming
Bazza118 replied to Paul's topic in Forecast Model Discussion
The latest met office video weather forecast does mention that there is milder air trying to get into the uk at the weekend, but that there is to much uncertainty at the moment to say if this will happen. So although the models are tending to show this, i suggest that the human element might take a more pragmatic view of the speed of progress it makes if any at all.
