  1. There were lots of great storm it seems. 1987 was 26 years ago.
  2. i was due to go to Ashford, Kent on Monday, maybe now I'll postpone it - operation stack and blown over lorries could mess up the M20 !
  3. There is a lot of discussion about whether or not this event will be as bad as we got in 1987. Here are facts about that one. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/news/in-depth/1987-great-storm/fact-file So what do we think folks ? Similar winds speeds would mean similar effects, right?
  4. All crane operations are stopped at fairly modest wind speeds. I don't have the exact figure to hand, but its a fairly frequent occurrence on our projects. Everything is risk assessed so works at height in cranes, exposed locations or whatever are controlled in high winds.
  5. i expect when tomorrow evening's news goes on about a big storm, panic mode will kick in, and the supermarkets will be very busy. Personally, i dont like shopping much, so i dont think i will go. Might help the local pub make sure it can get its deliveries though
  6. It must be a good idea to move loose objects in the garden to somewhere they wont cause too much damage. Like collapse/fold up the garden furniture. I would secure the shed down with something heavy but I cant think of anything.... oh hang on, the mrs will do, if I can peel her off the sofa..
  7. The big question for me "Did Exacta weather predict it ?" Own up., Who paid and got his Autumn forceast and can say catagorically he predicted this in May or whatever
  8. Yes good point, there are 2 motorbikes and allsorts of other junk to move out first. I think if you have a garage its for filling with anything but a car. I did think about trying to save the car from debris though....
  9. I remember the 1987 event, but i was living in a hilltop house with no trees around, in Plymouth. It wasnt a dramatic event to us then, just stormy - i was amazed to see the devastation in the South East on the telly. Looks like its time to check for loose roof slates and move the cars from harm's way. Shame the garage is too small to actually fit a car into...if I want to open the door to get out that is.... Then on Sunday night go out for a good strong curry as an analogy with the windy weather
  10. I've seen Exactaweather's winter forecast - no I havent paid for it - Snowmageddon of course !
  11. Hi all Love the new NW look !!! New barbie has had it test run at the weekend. Now for a good burn up this evening Amazing sprouting going on in the garden, apple tree will soon be in bloom !
  12. Yes I got home on my motorbike just in time, it hasnt settled on the roads but if it goes on like that .....
  13. Good to see the classic Met Office Nowcast has swung into action again. Nothing like being told 'its snowing' when its snowing
  14. Cut mine at the weekend too and did 2 days of gardening ! Great to be out there, even though I had several coats on And new BBQ just delivered. Time to ruin some horseburgers is rapidly approaching
  15. Fair comment, but 2 cups of tea, a sweating six-pack (yeah right) and 2 hrs swinging a 5lb mattock felt rewarding.
  16. Hey all Still feeling chilly in the garden But having just dug out a tree stump by hand, i'm warm
  17. Looks ok to venture out and cut the grass front and back. The water table has receded to below ground level so that should help
  18. Great news JJ1 I have just ordered a new barbeque in anticipation of a heatwave
