if this shower where having at the mo continues for 30 mins or more we will have a right dump i just wish i could get some decent pics grrr.
really heavy at the moment even the main roads that have just been gritted have gone white again.
-
another snow shower here very heavy

starting to snow this is about the 10th snow shower we have seen today we have about 3-4cm of lying snow treacherous conditions for travelling here as well.
-
heavy snow shower left 2cm and got just starting to snow lightly again !!!!!
-
the snow showers are too short too have an affect and its too warm for it to stay just hope when it goes dark we get loads of snow showers and they accumalate.
we have had few looking too my east theres one about 20 mins away i would say just before it starts to get dark.
-
moderate snow just started here

I've only just seen this thread, I was pretty flabergasted at about 5pm, when there was ice in the raindrops!, this may have been melting hail, but it still had ice in!
this happened here the other day one minute it was 6c the temp dived and the rain clearly turned to hail and sleet yet they forecast 8c

well travel as a whole could be affected at the weekend i hope it doesn't cause chaos on the motorways because i am off to a football match saturday which i hope will not be affected either.
anyone know whether leicester is forecast snow for saturday ???

When was the BBC Online 5-Day forecast ever right?
the bbc ceefax page 406 5 day forecasts are the biggest joke going they are basically never right so i would just disregard this to be honest.
-
its 6c now here in sheffield and dropping.
-
i reckon you will see more than an inch if this comes of mate don't get to dispondant i know leicester isn't the best place to live for snow but you could live in abingdon
-
heh ill be there, i wouldnt hold your breath at getting snowed in at Leicester anyway.
well it could be quite a tricky drive down to leicester on the m1 if all this snow falls i reckon we might have to take an alternative route because i don't want to get stuck in massive ques on the m1 in the snow like which has happened before to us.
-
hes saying it will be rain on the EA coast, and a mix of rain, sleet and wet snow for the rest of EA.
well don't give up hope i can remember the forecasters saying oh it will only snow on high ground here and we ended up getting 10cm last november here.
anything can happen with the weather as well no so you could get 5 to 10 inches after all.

GFS snow line charts from wetter3.de seem to concur with your thoughts Steve ... even to lower levels in the South on Friday morning with exception of the NE like you say. Though things may change for the better (or maybe worse) over the coming days, but the 06z isn't all that bad for snow potential :-
... but there's scope for better snow potential if the low ends up a little further East bringing colder air further east but then we could have a problem with flooding along the shallow North Sea coasts if it did looking at those winds in the West on the fax chart.
is that 5 in inches because if that is that looks like its right over us in sheffield

OOOOH ECK!
may i print this off and take it into work? If this is indeed the case then we are at severe risk stood out on an exposed pier, i know we have warm floation suits and gloves (albeit cruddy ones) but faces etc are exposed so if the wind is not enough to stop the ferry sailing, we could well be stood out in that for at least 20 minutes at a time and handling wet ropes etc.
well i guess you would have the day of to be honest i doubt you will be able to work in gales/severe gales and snow to be honest and the windchill would be a big factor as well.
