  1. Been snowing pretty much all day here but even at 200m it's not really lying. At 300m the road over the hill begins to get white, but slushy. At 400m, on the forest tracks there's around 7cm or so lying, and it's dry enough for the wind to be able to blow it around in the stronger gusts.
  2. Frequently used to use this weekend to go skiing, usually over to Nevis Range as its not a day trip from here. Not managed that for a few years though. Still definitely snow that's falling here but struggling to accumulate much as it's marginal temperature wise. I suspect our extra height is making the difference l, and that in Alford itself it's more likely to be a sleety mess.
  3. Currently 0.8C, dewpoint -0.7C, with a covering of what looks like quite wet snow from overnight showers. Heavier stuff still being forecast to move in later today, and for now at least the radar is saying we are, being far enough inland, in the snow zone rather than rain or sleet.
  4. Got as high as 0.7C here today but although it felt chilly there was no wind so it wasn't too bad. Currently -0.6C and sat under a snow shower, which is adding to earlier slight accumulations. It was 'heavily stealth snowing' late afternoon for a bit. I was working in the motorhome adding a switch panel into the solar system at the time. As the side door lock had iced up I'd entered through the cab, leaving the door ajar. Turned round 10 mins later to find the drivers seat, door pockets, footwell and half the dash board covered in snow. Cue some furious brushing out.
  5. Currently -5.7C with an overnight low just slightly colder than that. Sun trying to make an appearance. Most forecasts, MetO, XC, Yr.No, showing a cold and snowy day here tomorrow. Pity it's then highly likely to turn to a slushy mess on Saturday.
  6. Same here, a light covering of snow on most surfaces. Late Friday still looking interesting, I'd be highly sceptical but MetO forecast also showing snow around the same time, just without the totals.
  7. Cos it's fun, as long as you treat it as fantasy snowfall levels, as it changes every run. Decent weekend here, dry, sometimes sunny, bit breezy at times. High of around 7.5C both days, loss only a degree or two below that. Looking colder from mid week, but despite what XC weather says at times, no idea how much snowfall we'll get.
  8. You can still do a proper quote of sorts, just hold to highlight a word, drag out the selection, then hopefully you get a pop up quote button you can select. It can be awkward, but works. Don't know how I ended up with two quotes in the same post though.
  9. Chilly out, didn't think I'd be saying that after last week. Got below freezing around 5:30pm and currently -1.4C. Had to scrape the car windscreen this morning with a min of 2C, expect I'll be doing the same tomorrow.
  10. Getting quite windy here now, otherwise bright(ish) and mild, but at 10C that's far from as mild as other places by the looks of it. GFS looking increasingly interesting from around 4th Feb...
  11. As above, bit of a meh week, nothing awful but nothing interesting either. I did have to scrape the car windscreen yesterday morning, that's the highlight of the week so far. Today is what my mum would call a "good drying day" as its mild (8.5C), windy and occasionally sunny. Washing is therefore out on the whirly. Edit: second week of Feb looking potentially interesting but I'm holding fire on getting excited.
  12. @Norrance Ouch, don't know what'll hurt more, the injury or the bill. Booked channel tunnel crossings for start of April in the hope of getting the motorhome down to the Alps. If the snow holds out then we want to get skiing for the first time since the Xmas immediately before the first Covid lockdown. That seems a ridiculously long time for something I love doing so much. If the snow isn't looking good then we'll change plans. I'm finally getting my wife on board with the idea of going with the flow with the motorhome, and not having to have everything booked months in advance.
  13. Saw that ourselves on Facebook this morning and the wife texted the guy who either owns them, or at least who's land they are on. He owns the small paddock behind our house too. No idea why he had them there, but they've been there a while and never seemed to move. Was surprised they went last night as the wind was from the south and one ended up on road, which is south of the caravans. Apart from that I was surprised at how little evidence of storm damage I saw on the commute to Westhill this morning. Surprised at how few Aberdeenshire schools were affected too, about 5 or 6 closed as without power, not a lot with school transport affected either.
  14. Issued that late that most people won't even notice it. I know they must be reacting to latest data though. Doesn't seem overly bad here but maybe we're sheltered a bit from a direct southerly, and not due to peak here for an hour or two. Only one flicker of the lights, and that was around 8pm. Going to sleep now, with the hope we wake up still having power.
  15. Going to fill the buckets in a bit to ensure we have some water for flushing loos if the electric goes out. Water is pumped from a cistern, if all else fails we can still lift the lid and dip a bucket in. Considered a generator, or battery backup, the last time we were out of power for days but could never quite justify the need.
  16. Congratulations @Northern Strathwe'll let you off with the lack of posts, but o ly this time. If the next child arrives during a snowy spell we'll expect you to still be on duty here. My youngest finishes S6 this year, so no more kids at school, can't believe it. 3.7C here just after midnight, seems strange after days on end of sub zero temperatures. Excessively windy weather I could really do without.
  17. You get all the benefits of the snow too, without having to go through the horrible mess of the thaw. Glad you had such a good week.
  18. Windy here too and temp is currently 1.8C, having got back above freezing around 3am. Only a thin covering of snow overnight and the current showers seem to be dying out just to our west. So that appears to be that then. It was a fairly good event here, better than I expected, but not in the 'epic' class, not by the standard of these parts anyway. Pity it was largely confined to Northern areas. On to the search for the next 'event' then.
  19. If that makes it over us I suspect it's another day at home tomorrow, especially if it's accompanied by wind.
  20. Wind just got up and there's a lots of very fine snow swirling around in the air. Can't tell if that blob that @Scottish-Irish Skiermentioned earlier has finally crept over us, or it's bieing blown off the house roof and surrounding fields. Probably a combination of both.
  21. Fantastic photos, but that drifting is nothing compared to three years ago. For example, this was taken at the top of the road over Sui Hill when they finally dug it out with a JCB after a couple of weeks of being closed. Difficult to get an idea of scale from the photos, but it was higher than the roof of the Mitsubishi ASX I had then. Photo was taken on 15th Feb 2021. If the lying snow we currently have doesn't consolidate before Sunday then there's going to be many more problems with drifting.
  22. A slow thaw would be preferred, last thing we need is for it to go really mild with lots of rain.
  23. Measured 6cm on car windscreen, which was clear when I got home around 5pm yesterday. Some signs of drifting, but nothing major.
  24. The temperature dropped below zero here around 9am on Sunday and hasn't got above freezing since, so that's coming up for 96 straight hours now. Currently -3.0C. As I'm 'working from home' today I'll get out and measure the snow depth in a bit.
