      DR(S)NO

Wasnt it meant to be an above average hurricane season.?

    3. summer blizzard

      summer blizzard

Yes and it's more than possible that it still will be in terms of named storms (we have another looking to develop in about 5 days and Fernand may be declared a hurricane in post season analysis) but in terms of major hurricanes it looks like slim pickings

    4. DAVID SNOW

      DAVID SNOW

Global warming, warmer seas more major hurricanes..........errr no.

  21. Sleep well tonight.and dust off the barbies...The Express says theres an 86f heatwave on the way ..and its here to stay!!

    1. Isolated Frost

      Isolated Frost

      I don't think it's got to 86f here since 2006!

  22. Any thoughts on when the first widespread frosts are likely to occur? Whats the average time of year? Other than just winter!?

    1. Show previous comments  4 more
    2. Isolated Frost

      Isolated Frost

First air frost, mid-September, widespread ground frosts generally in October, but it all depends.

    3. Eugene

      Eugene

The average for first air frost in urban areas in southern UK is as late as late October/early November, valley areas in the midlands alot earlier than that but there are no records

    4. Bottesford

      Bottesford

Preferably after mid Oct to let the crops ripen. Bonfire night will do!

  23. Do you say aitch or haitch for the letter h?? Is one more right than the other?

    1. Show previous comments  2 more
    2. DR(S)NO

      DR(S)NO

I have always said aitch...but more and more people appear to say haitch...i wonder why it appears more prevelant?

    3. CreweCold

      CreweCold

they just say aitch, with the letter they're trying to pronounce in front of it. So it ends up haitch.

    4. cheese

      cheese

Pronunciations change over time, and people in different countries can be influenced by how other nationalities pronounce things. Haitch is the most common way of saying H in Ireland and Australia, and appears to be on the rise in the UK, too. Kind of similar to how people will now sometimes say garbage or dinner over rubbish or tea (and I've tended to say those words too).

  24. Miserable day...its like Autumn out there...still Summer weather making a return soon

    1. Bottesford

      Bottesford

Not too bad here - bright 'n breezy with no rain. Needs to be warmer mind!

    2. Richard2901

      Richard2901

Awful here. It's definitely like October. Dull and windy and now the rain has started temp has dropped from 16C to 14C. Yet again this summer, with the exception of 23rd to 25th July, the worst weather has been at the weekend and the best while I'm stuck in a sweltering office :(

    3. Bottesford

      Bottesford

Yes it is frustrating given that yesterday was lovely and today is so breezy and damp. Got guests coming today and wanted to sit outside!
