Paul Hudson has just mentioned an Easterly by mid week. It may not last long, but it's certainly not a 'distant dream' as it's showing on all models last post until 2pm

ECM day 5 Cold and snowy...

We only had -4/5 uppers on boxing day, and predominately we have -6 uppers next week, so I very much doubt it will be sleet/rain. Uppers are not everything anyway, as Ian F has mentioned on the mod thread. It's possible to get snow with -1/-2 uppers.

The GFS has 8 days with cold and snow, how is that not a great outlook? Think your expectations are a little to high.

If you live in the North a week of cold and snow is pretty much guaranteed, with -4 uppers at worst. For the south it's more uncertain in terms of snow, but I would bet a lot of money that you will get snow at some point in the next 7 days. On boxing day here we only had -4/5 uppers in a NW flow, and it rained for hours before that but we still got a good 5cm of snow with Sheffield getting 15cms. No reason to be negative even if you live in the south, unless your looking for severe cold with massive blizzards.

Not for our region, we have at least -4 uppers for the next 10 days.

No reason whatsoever to be negative regarding next week if you live in Yorkshire, it will be cold and snowy

Why are people complaining about not getting snow? The GFS precipitation charts are far from accurate, especially 5+ days out! the details will inevitably change on every run.

it's not been that great in west yorkshire either to be honest, well not where I am anyway plenty more to come in the coming days though

that is true perhaps... we should both get some snow in the next week so it's all good!

So now we have the ECM, UKMO and GFS P all agreeing, with the GFS out on it's own..theirs are reason it's getting replaced!

There can't be cold...theirs no SSW and the MJO isn't favorable if this cold spell does verify, it proves that cold can never be ruled out even if the NH profile/signals aren't great. albeit there was some warming in the strat
