  1. Sad about the cygnets, but natural predation, I suppose. Wonder why the ducklings have been less vulnerable.
  2. Thank you Paul. I knew it must have been obvious.
  3. How do I sign out of the community? I can't find a tab or box to do so. Maybe I am missing the obvious
  4. This is my first sighting of a Turtle Dove, a species in decline. It was a cold and drizzly morning, 13c just north of Clermont Ferrand on Saturday (4th June). 70kms south of our overnight stop it was 29c! Turtle Dove
  5. The Wagtail nest in the woodstore was abandoned during the cold snap in April, but they have rebuilt elsewhere, under the eaves of the steading. The Blue Tits did investigate this nest box earlier in the season, but I think Great Tits are occupying it now. The fresh green-ness of spring is beautiful.
  6. Nice photos of the Swan and cygnets. Any news of the Canada Geese.? I know there is not much one can do about natural predators. Survival for some, I suppose. Watched a Magpie raiding one of our Blackbird nests last week. This was quite unusual in my area as there are no locally breeding Magpies and over the past two years I have only sighted them two or three times in the garden.
  7. Beautiful calm evening, with warm sunshine.
  8. It has been pleasantly warm this afternoon, 16c - 17c with a light breeze and around 60 - 70% cloud cover. The garden plants could do with a spot of rain now.
  9. Missed it again, Polar. Good photo though. I thought the forecast was quiet over the W/E
  10. Feels the warmest day of the year at my location, around 20c. The breeze is milder. Mr ciel is getting the barbecue out as I write to catch the last of this fine spell.
  11. Breezy and bright this morning, around 9c at present. I noticed the oilseed rape was almost in full bloom yesterday evening.
  12. Hope the some of the goslings survive this year.
  13. Thanks for your reply, WWS. I'll carry on with the barrel pond, but might look out for, in addition, a larger container with a greater surface area such as an old sink for next year.
  14. Hi WWS, I've been following your tadpoles' life story . I have had a barrel pond for three years, (Mr ciel won't agree to excavating a proper pond), but never had any spawn. I have built a ramp for access to the pond and I do come across frogs and toads in the garden. The pond is planted a miniature varieties of waterlily, iris and rushes. Any advice as to how to encourage amphibians?
  15. It feels milder this evening than it has been during the day, The chilly wind has dropped. Several Pipistrelle bats out and about for the first time that I have observed this year- good to see.
  16. Knocker, these are two photos of displaying Pheasants which were taken on this spring morning.
  17. Beautiful afternoon. I feel the temperature and see the snow line rising. View towards the old military road from Fettercairn to Banchory.
  18. These two are having prolonged fisticuffs now that the weather has improved (slightly) Didn't manage to adjust the camera settings in time on my way out this morning.
  19. Nice caption. He's been luckier, though, after the last shower.
  20. The Thrush pair and a Blackbird pair appear to have, probably hungry, chicks now as I watched them this morning rootling around and carrying off meagre beakfuls of food in the wind and between frequent snow/sleet showers. If this wintry spell is protracted, I can’t see these broods being raised successfully.
  21. It was a coldish but bright day for walking. There was good shelter from the breeze in Mulloch wood, south of Banchory. We stopped to take a few pics of the Ninestone recumbent stone circle there. The location is very atmospheric.
  22. I'm watching a snow storm sweeping down the eastern Angus glens. It's falling as sleet in my location.
