North American Weather (U.S.A & Canada)
TropicThunder replied to Derbyshire_snow's topic in Weather Around The World
Just thought I'd share this photo of when I was in Death Valley a few weeks ago. Just prior to me being there they had almost record breaking heat in the low 50's celcius, which then gave way to cooler temperatures and more moisture caused by Hurricane Kay just off the south west coast of California. After this was taken we almost got stuck in the resulting flash flooding in the basin but fortunately turned around just in time as the road was getting covered in rocks and debris as well as the torrent of water. Around 40 or so vehicles did get stranded though before they closed the road off. -

Don't know where they get their info or how accurate it is but looking around some locations on Google Maps, both Huntingdon and Market Rasen are showing 41C. Must be a few more as well. -
Temperature Record Monitor Thread

I don't understand why there are so few official stations. Surely as a minimum every major town and city should have one. With only a select few stations in each area it doesn't feel like we get a true picture. I expect over the course of yesterday and today there will be many high temperatures hit that just don't get recorded. -

I decided to head south and currently in Abingdon but it's all looking like a wet mess atm. Will give it a little longer before heading home. Dorset has done very well recently but predicting where storms will be in this country is a nightmare! -

A good night down here in the end, had several hours of lightning albeit mostly too distant to hear thunder. Went to bed after 1 only to be woken again by loud booming thunder and a few bright flashes at around 3 am. Dorset hit the jackpot though so pleased for everyone there, it's nice it didn't all shift east for once! Got this brief video of lightning across the sky, the pilots in that plane had front row seats lol. -

Just as it seemed to have fizzled out, more lightning and finally heard some thunder. -

Very thundery looking skies here in Southampton and the humidity feels like it's shot up. I'm cautiously optimistic at this stage of at least seeing some distant flashes. -

Summer 2021: Moans, Groans, Ramps and Banter
TropicThunder replied to damianslaw's topic in Spring Weather Discussion
Dull grey sky, 17C and a chilly breeze, the cherry on the cake of a crap summer bar the odd few days here and there. Our climate sucks doesn't it?! -
Hmm I'm getting seriously tempted to drive 'home' to Southampton this evening given what looks like a decent forecast, but I'm scarred from so many failed plumes in the past. Can see it already, a big wet mess with little electrical activity for most of the south coast with lightning restricted to East Sussex/Kent coastal areas as the night goes on. I daren't get my hopes up!
