  1. Just had a rumble of thunder out of the blue in Southampton even though the sun is out. Looks like it's developing overhead.
  2. I think tonight/tomorrow will mainly be a sleety mess along the coast, just seems far too marginal unfortunately. Go a little inland and especially with elevation and some places should do ok. Fingers crossed for all.
  3. In Southampton just got caught outside in torrential rain thunder and lightning, soaked but enjoyed it!
  4. A good half hour or so of thunder and lightning in Wellingborough, lovely surprise to wake up to! Wasn't expecting this for the time of year.
  5. Just thought I'd share this photo of when I was in Death Valley a few weeks ago. Just prior to me being there they had almost record breaking heat in the low 50's celcius, which then gave way to cooler temperatures and more moisture caused by Hurricane Kay just off the south west coast of California. After this was taken we almost got stuck in the resulting flash flooding in the basin but fortunately turned around just in time as the road was getting covered in rocks and debris as well as the torrent of water. Around 40 or so vehicles did get stranded though before they closed the road off.
  6. Don't know where they get their info or how accurate it is but looking around some locations on Google Maps, both Huntingdon and Market Rasen are showing 41C. Must be a few more as well.
  7. I don't understand why there are so few official stations. Surely as a minimum every major town and city should have one. With only a select few stations in each area it doesn't feel like we get a true picture. I expect over the course of yesterday and today there will be many high temperatures hit that just don't get recorded.
  8. I decided to head south and currently in Abingdon but it's all looking like a wet mess atm. Will give it a little longer before heading home. Dorset has done very well recently but predicting where storms will be in this country is a nightmare!
  9. A good night down here in the end, had several hours of lightning albeit mostly too distant to hear thunder. Went to bed after 1 only to be woken again by loud booming thunder and a few bright flashes at around 3 am. Dorset hit the jackpot though so pleased for everyone there, it's nice it didn't all shift east for once! Got this brief video of lightning across the sky, the pilots in that plane had front row seats lol.
  10. Some cracking bolts being thrown out now with increasingly loud thunder, feels like it's been a while!
  11. Just as it seemed to have fizzled out, more lightning and finally heard some thunder.
  12. Flashes getting more regular here, looks like a decent light show on the IOW!
  13. Very thundery looking skies here in Southampton and the humidity feels like it's shot up. I'm cautiously optimistic at this stage of at least seeing some distant flashes.
  14. House in Southampton lost it's roof Lots of trees down too LIVE: The latest travel news for Southampton after Storm Eunice chaos WWW.DAILYECHO.CO.UK We will be bringing you the latest traffic updates across Southampton, as Storm Eunice continues to batter the city.
  15. Wouldn't be at all surprised if there was a tornado. Took the dogs out this morning around the same time that 'hook' passed over here and the winds were mental for a few minutes, and quite a bit of damage caused around here. Didn't last long but it was intense.
  16. Dull grey sky, 17C and a chilly breeze, the cherry on the cake of a crap summer bar the odd few days here and there. Our climate sucks doesn't it?!
  17. Most notable thing for me with last night's storms was how loud the thunder was. Usually with elevated storms the thunder is quiet but had some real loud deep booming rumbles overnight, best I've heard in a long time.
  18. Just back from the waterfront in Southampton, some stunning lightning both CGs and crawlers across the sky, although not as frequent as other events. Thunder still rumbling away occasionally. Certainly no bust here!
  19. Hmm I'm getting seriously tempted to drive 'home' to Southampton this evening given what looks like a decent forecast, but I'm scarred from so many failed plumes in the past. Can see it already, a big wet mess with little electrical activity for most of the south coast with lightning restricted to East Sussex/Kent coastal areas as the night goes on. I daren't get my hopes up!
