Torrential rain on the east coast for over an hour now. I suspect there could be local flooding problems.

Today was quite pleasant - long sunny spells, light winds and a max of 21.5C; exactly what August should be like. Got out into the garden to get the grass cut before the washout on Saturday.
Glad to hear it, my wifes tomatoes will have enjoyed that. Meanwhile on east coast it's been overcast but thankfully dry. A bit chilly though in the northerly and the sea is raging in on quite a high tide.

Wouldn’t be surprised if there’s some minor flooding in places around here
The access road to our site near Whitby has a dip in it and it's currently a river 10ft across and a foot deep so still just passable. Never seen that in 15yrs of coming here.

Shocking morning on the East Coast, torrential rain, roads covered in standing water, i haven't seen the stats but we must have had a chunk of Augusts total rainfall today so far
An absolute horror show in Whitby. Businesses must be suffering (except the arcades) It must be truly awful to rely on the british summer weather for your income.

I'm now curious as to what is the worst weather you can get at this time of year without it being destructive and how the current situation compares. There was one August in the mid 1980's where ex-hurricane Charley crossed the UK and brought some awful weather.
I think it was the August bank holiday 1986.

I really can't see any great improvement now for the forseeable future. Just a case of an excuse for a summer slowly drifting into autumn. But here's the thing, a vast improvement isn't needed. Take yesterday in Scarborough for example. 15c Cloudy and drizzly until around lunchtime when the sky partly cleared and we then had approx 4hrs of sunny spells and 18c. Good enough for most to enjoy a beach afternoon and a quick dip in the brine. Yes the crap came back at 4pm but by then most people were drifting off feeling a bit rewarded.

Arrived in Whitby today for a few days on the east coast. Never been in Nov before so surprised it's still light at 8.30pm. Quite mild for the time of year as well. Must have been 15c despite the rain. Oh hang on a minute.......is this 2023?

Looks like some areas of the country are having a better day. Please enjoy it while you can. Meanwhile here it's 14c and still raining. The weather station at Bradford Chellow Heights just down the road has logged 43.3mm in the 24hrs up to 1400. I suspect the weekend total will be much higher.

Still raining here and not forecast to stop until the end of the day. That'll be around 36hrs of continuous rain. Anyone landing at the airport yesterday morning from a hol in the med has certainly been brought back to reality.

Anyone ever wonder what life would’ve been like if this country had been abandoned centuries ago. I mean everything and everyone moved lock stock and barrel to say Australia. Leaving the cold, wind and rain behind. Pipe dreams I know but I just sometimes wonder if a scenario like this could ever have been played out.

Looks like its over and out for summer 23 if the met office long ranger is to be believed. Unsettled with below average temps until mid August. I guess its the price you pay for a (mostly) blazing June.

The second storm of the day has just rumbled through with very heavy rain and looking at the radar Leeds is in the firing line for more.

Christ. And people always tell me I'm exaggerating when I maintain that, in this country, we get/can get the same weather in June / July as in November / December (other than daylight hours of course).
Even for Britain though, that is incredibly poor. What's the record low temps in recent history in July in Manchester? 13c max must be fairly close to it, surely.
I may be wrong but I seem to remember there was one Saturday in early July 2000 where it failed to reach double figures at Leeds Bradford Airport. However I do remember landing back from the Canaries on Fri 10th June 2011 at around 1630 and the temp was 10c. Fellow passengers were gobsmacked.

When's the breakdown.. in 10 days.. possibly more..
Ain't even peak summer yet it feels like mid August. Don't understand how people like humidity, its horrible.. but I guess we're all different. Bring back the weather we had a week or so ago, that was perfect. Low humidity, clear skies, average temperatures. Perfect
As recent as last thurs was overcast, cold and windy. Not everyone has had clear blue skies and sun for weeks on end.

24c at the airport now and a lovely day. Even the easterly has now died down somewhat.

Lovely clear blue skies here and the temp is already up to 18c. Still that nagging easterly though just taking the edge off it.

First cloud-free morning in what feels like forever.
Yes its nice out there.

Not a bad afternoon at all with plenty of sun after it broke the clags back around midday. Managed to reach 17.9c in my back garden which felt warm in the sun but in the shade the n/easterly was still chilly. I'll be glad to see the back of it and looking forward to some warmth. If it makes it this far north

Good sunny spells here now since midday but still only 15c. The wind is cold & gusty as well.
-
Proper cold here this morning. Fleece & wooly hat weather.

The clag finally relented from here around 4pm and we've now got a temp of 16c. Better than nowt I suppose.

Looks like the clag is breaking up from the south. Still a long way before it reaches my neck of the woods though.

Cloudy all day here, with some light morning drizzle and a high of 14c. If June sun can't burn this crap away nothing can.

Different story on the east coast. Lots of local flooding in the Whitby area. Must have had a couple of inches in 3-4 hrs earlier this morning.
