  1. I won't take any big risks, but I just can't sit in when a storm comes along like this. It is my absolute passion (extreme weather). Cheers festivalking! Yes I did consider that, but my only concern is I'm not familiar with the location, I want to be where I am familiar with the surroundings, in case one needs to take evasive action!
  2. Actually lol'd at that, I don't think the birds will be flying on Sunday night, They will probably fear opening there wings as they will be goners! It's a good vantage point, would look awesome if it was to be a daylight storm from there. Sandbank is good for footage, as the wave often come over the wall in the bay, which look dramatic!
  3. need to start planning where my vantage point is going to be....... Hengitsbury Head, Sandbanks, Bournemouth overcliffe or somewhere west towards Purbeck.... decisions decisions....
  4. Quite right, this is not a hurricane, it won't have the characteristics of a hurricane and it certainly won't have the sustained winds of even a category 1 hurricane never mind a Cat 2. Tropical storm strength perhaps. Hurricane and Tropical storms also drop a lot more than 40mm of rain. However, potentially a very strong autumn storm not to be reckoned with. I hope it's a corker and everyone stays safe, although its inevitable that it is almost unavoidable that not everyone will stay safe. Common sense is key here, no unnecessary risks etc, like kite surfing in the dark..
  5. It's going to be an exhausting weekend of model watching,I may need to have a break for a few days after Monday, then I'll come back and be greeted by immense Northern blocking with raging North Easterlies developing and start the process all over again lol.well here's to hoping .....
  6. This would give a chilly breeze, nice heights over Greenland also..
  7. This could potentially cause more damage than the Cray's did..........
  8. Portland is my tip for top wind gust, showing 74mph at 3am currently http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/forecast/portland-harbour-sandsfoot-castle-(beach)-dorset#?tab=fiveDay&fcTime=1382918400
  9. Portland 74mph Gusts, this is my tip for strongest wind gusts http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/forecast/portland-harbour-sandsfoot-castle-(beach)-dorset#?tab=fiveDay&fcTime=1382918400
  10. SO we can kite surf from the Jurassic coast all the way to the Carlsberg Factory in Denmark!! I'm in
  11. JMA has it bang on top of us during daylight hours on Monday rather than overnight Sunday/Monday. just realized that is yesterdays run
  12. Quite, last winter the blimming french and Channel Islands nicked our once in a generation storm and then the North of England and Wales got hammered, whilst we watch in ore!!
  13. No storms just precip, but it sprung from nowhere and caught me by surprise. Personally I'm looking forward to proper cold, but I'll take a raging storm any day, even on a Monday! Cold currently looks a long way off
  14. I wasn't expecting the radar to go as mad as it has done this evening. It's gone boom in the last hour or so from nowhere.
  15. Ditto, I will also be out all night, down to Sandbanks for me, then a trip to Hengistbury head.
  16. Southern Denmark and North Germany are in for a pounding!!
  17. This is not a blow torch, this is white out across southern England
  18. A very good post Frosty, sums up the current output very well think. At least the Blow torch that was looking likely to have an impact on the early Euroaisia snow didn't really develop. Snow/Ice cover still present and building. The 31 day animation is worth a look, quite impressive how quickly it spread, especially the Ice! http://www.natice.noaa.gov/ims/ http://www.natice.noaa.gov/pub/ims/ims_gif/DATA/cursnow_asiaeurope.gif So the typically Autumn weather that is currently in full swing is not concerning to me, the cold is there and hopefully we can tap into it in a few weeks time when it is more widespread and deeper cold! In the meantime, I'm personally looking forward to the potential of a decent Autumn storm of note come Monday morning!
  19. I'm sticking my neck out and going for Portland Dorset.
