  1. Almost 25c here at Cardiff at 11pm with high humidity (was 20c at 3/4pm)  which is making for quite an uncomfortable night. Extraordinary spell of weather though.

  2. Historic event here in Cardiff. Incredible. Also very bad now back at my home in Pembrokeshire

Snow now above ankle height. Drifts in places a foot, even two foot in the windiest spots.

  3. Incredible weather right now. -4c outside in Cardiff, blowing very hard from the east. Up to 40mph gusts.

Potential for huge disruption here tomorrow.

  4. Great day here. Hottest day since 2006 in Pembrokeshire, very rarely does it hit 30c here but a high of 30.1c at 15:31 this afternoon! Looks like possible rain now incoming here soon.

  5. First proper cold cold night of the winter  here in Cardiff.

    -2.3c at 9pm and falling.

  6. Probably the wettest December and the dullest past two months I can remember here on west coast of Wales. Over 200% of December rainfall with just over 210mm for the month. Can't remember the last 24 hour period with no rainfall at all. Oh and it's raining today.

It is true. Somebody posted the statistics recently. It makes sense actually as both the continent and the surrounting seas are kept warmer.

The Atlantic cold blob has diminished by the way, overwhelmed by the super charges el nino.

You pulling exceptional events that happened before global warming accelerated! The world is very different in 2015 to what it was in 1985 if you look at global temperatures and the Arctic ice.

  9. Worrying times for Cumbria. Extreme totals past few hours with lots more to come. Red warning about to be issued. Stay safe.

  10. Why hasn't the metoffice named this storm?

I think the Met Office made the right (non) call, just. They can't name every moderately strong wind event, like today, IMO, as complacency could creep in to the Public.

  11. What a film bridge of the spies is!

  12. Good lecture tonight in uni from Prof. Brian Goulding of the MetOffice. Great speaker and even better info about the improvement of modelling weather hazards. Tried asking if this data could become more publically available.

  13. Anyone have access to newest ECMWF seasonal?

It becomes shakey when there is a possibility for blocking but it does pretty well with zonal set ups.

Lol Scott, on the whole it has been a pretty bog standard year. If you want to see a bizarre year, look at 1817,

Still time to improve on the record further as well!

13C and grey pretty average here, but locally exceptional. I normally think of these local daytime temp variations occurring around March time as I can't remember another occasion in November (normally think the sun is too weak even where it breaks through)

  15. Hurricane Patricia would supposedly be a cat 7 on the saffir scale if extra categories were added according to Ryan Maue, scary!

  16. huge snow storm to hit the NE States, 24 inches in places
