Convective / Storm Risk Discussion - 17th July 2013 onwards
Sainsbo replied to Coast's topic in Storms & Severe Weather
For once it seems like I may be in a fairly good spot to see some thunderstorms! Let's hope the models continue with this trend of widespread storms into next week. It's been too long since we had some descent thunderstorms! -
Thanks for the advice, I will definitely do that before I go to bed. As for what to do if it gets hotter into early next week, I couldn't agree more. It doesn't even have to be much hotter than it has been to feel substantially hotter with the added humidity. It's quite shocking to go outside at 3PM when it is 30C outside and see that everyone down the street has their windows wide open! I've been trying to make a habbit of keeping all windows and curtains closed in the afternoon, and then opening the windows at night when it cools down. The only problem with that is the crane flies that decide to invade the house. I hate the damn things...

Midnight and it is still 21C out. Had the fan on all day, and opened the windows now that it is cooler outside, and I still feel like I'm burning up. I guess I have no one but myself to blame for getting sunburned though.. BBC weather predicting 32C for Heathrow on Monday, and a temperature range of 20/36 for Thursday. Obviously with the way that the models are changing, nothing even more than a few days out is set in stone, but it seems that there is still a real chance of seeing a new hottest day of the year before this heatwave is up!

Temperatures peaked at 28.7C here today, another scorcher. The weekend looks to be a bit cooler here and then hotting up Monday and Tuesday, and then hopefully some thunderstorms! Can't really complain that a breakdown looks to be on the way atleast sometime in the next week, we have had around 2 weeks of this nice weather after all. Hopefully some people in the model thread can stop bickering at eachother and enjoy the rest of the hot weather while it lasts.

The local station here peaked at 30.0C today, meaning 5 of the last 6 days have hit 30C here, with the other day just being 0.2C off of hitting 30C. Can't complain - Looks like the first half of next week will be back up to the high 20s/low 30s, possibly feeling worse due to humidity, and then an increasing change of thunderstorms!

Monday-Wednesday do look like they will still be hot, but it looks like a breakdown could come at the end of the week. That's what I managed to get from it, anyway

Just this morning, the max they were predicting for places like Heathrow next Wednesday was 34C. If it can be upgraded that fast, it can also be downgraded just as fast. As excited as I am, I'm trying not to see it as being set in stone just yet. It's still 7-8 days out after all. If it is the same in a couple of days however, I'll be trying to get myself an AC pretty fast.

As much as I hope that it comes off, I can't help but think of the implications of such extreme heat. I bet a lot of old folk have already had enough of this, and now to think that it could be getting a lot worse is a bit of a kicker. Hopefully the humidity won't increase too much either. It could be a little more enjoyable then.

This morning the BBC were predicting a range of 16/30C for next Wednesday in Swindon, but that has changed to 17/34C. Maybe this heatwave is about to step up a bit! The GFS seems to think so. 30C widespread next week in the SouthWest, and up to 32C in places. I know it's a far way out, but this is eye candy if there ever has been if you like the heat.

Uppers may get a little bit hotter. Still a bit too far out to know for sure, but it's great to have that possibility there. Tonight is looking quite warm for most again, and SkyNews's weather forecast said they couldn't rule out seeing 33C somewhere in the UK tomorrow. I'd say that's overestimating slightly, but I guess we will find out tomorrow.
-
Here in Swindon it is currently 31.4C according to the local weather station, making it the hottest day here since July 2006!
-
I'm not sure if the local weather station is just a little over exited at the fact we are having sunny weather, or it actually is 29.4C out at the moment. Either way, it's the hottest day of the year already, and I doubt the warming will stop here.

26.7C was the max today, but it didn't feel as warm as it has done. Dewpoint was over 10C lower today than it was yesterday.

Temps hit 28.7C here, hottest day of the year!
