  1. Hello all in the SE thread - good to be back. Snowmageddon (sort of) here in Tunbridge Wells and settling ever so slightly on the grass. I'm really not sure why some in the Model thread are wringing their hands in despair - we have actual, proper snow, in some areas quite a lot of it, and it's still technically Autumn.....
  2. Yes, I think it very much depends on your location - here in West Kent we are being forecast only 1C all morning so may well get to see a 'wintry mix'.
  3. Increasingly windy here in Tunbridge Wells and still snowing steadily - according to the MetO it's set to continue here for at least the next couple of hours. On pavements it's settling but it's slushy - if that freezes solid tonight A&E is going to be packed tomorrow.
  4. It changed incredibly quickly for us in Tunbridge Wells - literally a few minutes ago and you're just down the road from us so - be patient!
  5. Snowing big time here in TW now!!! High excitement in this house!
  6. Good to be back in here again after a couple of years - looking forward to tonight.... The MetOffice have already upgraded me from what it was showing first thing this morning and are now telling me I'll have heavy snow for four hours from 6PM - I know there's still plenty of time for a downgrade but I'm allowing myself to get a tiny bit excited..... Just to see it falling from the sky!
  7. I have never seen anything like that before.... hope it means something significant is on the way...
  8. After Fergie's comment a few minutes ago on the MOD thread, I suspect this may be changing quite soon.
  9. That's an excellent post, Tamara - as ever - much appreciated.
  10. For those losing heart/throwing toys, I suggest you go and have a little look at the Strat thread - a very encouraging post in there tonight from one of NW's most knowledgeable contributors.
  11. I'm as old as you (give or take a few months!) and I know how you feel! - but I think we will get there this year… what do we oldsters say? - 'I feel it in my bones…' - but seriously, unlike last winter, there are background signals, and v. knowledgeable posters, indicating that things are pointing in the right direction.
  12. Fozfoster, it's still only 8th December…. some things are (hopefully) worth waiting for! There are quite a few positive signals for good news later on - yes, perhaps we may have to wait until January to see anything worthwhile - and nothing is guaranteed - but with a number of experienced and very knowledgeable posters telling us that something may be coming in a few weeks, I for one am still feeling very positive...
  13. Good news today from Recretos in the Strat thread too - I have huge respect for the regular posters in there - finally things do appear to be on the point of falling tentatively into place...
  14. I think the Strat thread is quiet because they are awaiting a SSW - which may not happen as quickly as first anticipated - there isn't a lot to say atm.
  15. I won't repost them as they are both v. long posts - but until Steve's post on 23 November I was under the impression that he had already published a very comprehensive winter forecast - in the two posts (both much longer than those he has quoted above), on 26th and 29th October - I was surprised when he said there would be another instalment to follow as so much ground had been covered already. I suggest forum members go back and read these in conjunction with the 'official' NW forecast to compare/contrast.
  16. Thanks so much for putting in so much work to explain what is a very complex topic in a way that even I can understand - I've learnt a huge amount from that forecast - and obviously am very much liking it too!
  17. Yes, please do, Steve - I'm a great admirer of yours but getting to the stage where I need reading glasses - the normal NW font is fine!
  18. I might be missing something - is this thread not meant to be based loosely around the models? Some of these posts seem to belong elsewhere.
  19. Apparently JAMSTEC too are going for a colder than average winter, as of the latest update (or so it says over on the MOD thread). Baby steps I know, but IMHO we are still very much on track for a change to cold some time in mid to late December.
  20. I take considerable comfort from OldMetMan's post over on the MOD thread - in the years I've been coming on Netweather during the winter months he has been proved right more often than not. I agree that we will have to wait a few more weeks - I suspect late December may be our first real shot at proper cold.
  21. Well, I'm sure he's a great guy - but he isn't a qualified meteorologist (I don't think), nor does he have the credentials of other posters on NW, in terms of incorporating the latest research - so I'm not clear why his forecast is likely to be more accurate than anyone else's. Though I appreciate that his forecast has clearly taken many hours - and full credit to him for that.
