  1. Whenever there's snow forecast I always tell myself I will be sensible and go to bed at a reasonable time but I know full well that come 4AM on Sunday, there I will be, turning the light outside the back door on and off.....
  2. We are just outside it too, but our town usually does very well from this sort of set-up..... and it's early days!
  3. Is it my imagination, or are the birds particularly vocal today? I've also heard quite a few seagulls overhead..... maybe I'm just looking for portents!
  4. Good to check in again to the SE thread - was starting to think I'd never get the chance! OK, now I am properly excited - the MetO has me down for heavy snow most of the day on Sunday and light snow right the way through Monday too..... how long is it since that happened? I must admit I am slightly concerned though for OAPs with vaccines booked - hate to think of them having to struggle through snow with the inevitable injuries that will follow. We should all keep an eye on our neighbours and offer them lifts to the vaccination centres where necessary (if, of course, we can get our cars out of the driveway....) Re 1991, I remember that well - we were sent home from work early, but the train ground to a halt several stops from home so I had to get out and catch a bus - which only made it half a mile before the road was impassable. So walking was the only option, and not expecting the severe weather I had totally unsuitable smart office shoes on. Crossing Blackheath was quite an experience - fell over several times, but there was so much snow it was like falling into a marshmallow. When I reached home I literally looked like a snowman - my hair was frozen solid. The shoes were, needless to say, a write-off.
  5. Gosh, getting really squally here now - my husband picked the wrong moment to take our Cavalier for a walk as a huge gust shook the house and nearly blew them both off their feet. Raining horizontally - definitely not a day to be out (unless you like that sort of thing).
  6. Interestingly one of our local 'characters' was walking down the shopping precinct today singing this..... possibly he is a prophet after all!
  7. Definitely the worst storm of the year for us in Tunbridge Wells - why were no warnings given? We had water cascading down an internal wall for three hours..... incredibly intense bursts of rain combined with very strong wind. I would have found it spectacular had I not been attempting to mop up!
  8. Is this research team highly rated? Am certainly more inclined to trust them than James Madden and Nathan Rao! https://news.sky.com/story/uk-could-be-hit-by-another-beast-from-the-east-this-winter-say-scientists-11805159
  9. Well, I wasn't really expecting this! - here in Tunbridge Wells it's snowing moderately, heavier than last night in fact though I doubt it will settle as the ground is soaking. Sadly I won't be able to lamppost watch as it's PTA Quiz Night at my daughters' school - can't wait!
  10. Snowing heavily in Tunbridge Wells..... looks like we were lucky this time, but please everyone, try to be happy for others - we've all been in a situation where we were promised something and didn't get it,.... your turn will come!
  11. Starting to snow properly here in Tunbridge Wells and settling immediately, indeed you can see individual snowflakes freezing on surfaces - am starting to feel hopeful....
  12. Not looking too bad according to the MetO for our location in West Kent - four hours of heavy snow, eight hours of non-heavy snow..... this isn't Minnesota so I would be more than happy with that!
  13. Transitioning to a sleety mix here in Tunbridge Wells - high excitement in our household, which speaks volumes for the winter so far! Will take anything at this point, and many thanks to TWBC for ensuring that the lamppost outside my house is not only now working, but working 24/7 so I can make the most of the wintry scene. Good luck to other NW SE members!
  14. Moderate snow in Tunbridge Wells, easing off a little now but starting to settle - much more so than yesterday. I don't think at this rate that it is going be in any way disruptive though.
  15. That's unlucky! - We were in Crowborough earlier this evening, dropping my daughter off at the Army Cadet base, and there was a decent-ish covering, more than we've had here in Tunbridge Wells.
  16. Light to moderate snow for the last 20 minutes in Tunbridge Wells - just starting to settle on some surfaces. I cannot believe I am saying that in mid-March! We are supposed to be taking our daughters to Cadet Camp in Crowborough later today - do not relish driving in this.
  17. Some will survive, and those will be the strongest ones. Survival of the fittest!
  18. Yes, given that only a few weeks ago so many were bemoaning the fact that winter was over it's been pretty impressive, especially for March - I never want to hear it said again that late winter snowfall cannot deliver the goods! For some it has been awesome, most of us have seen several snowfalls - no complaints here. Hope everyone gets home safely tonight - see you all next November!
  19. In West Kent it's been snowing continuously, and sometimes heavily, for several hours.... wish I could send it your way as my husband is currently stuck on a train....

  21. Bexleyheath line now suspended too.... not looking good for the Friday evening rush hour if you are a Southeastern passenger. EDIT: sorry, that's trains from Bexleyheath to London - coming out of London the line is still open.
  22. Some of the heaviest snow we have had this week at present - very unexpected and lovely to see.
  23. Light to moderate snow now in Tunbridge Wells, settling immediately on pavements.
  24. Have just seen this on Southeastern's Twitter feed: SERVICE UPDATE 12:00 Do not attempt to travel across East Kent at the moment, a large amount of ice has built up affecting the power supply and we cannot run trains between Swanley & Ramsgate, Ashford & Ramsgate via Dover or Canterbury and Otford to Ashford #uksnow
