Some freight train gusts hitting here now,  expanded on Polar Martime's advice , & put dinner and heating on earlier just in case the power goes down , that said pretty resilient here based on previous high wind events... but you never know

My phone has been on charge all day and I'm not taking it off until morning

I once had a prop plane flight Southampton to Dublin, circled around above the Irish Sea for 30 mins waiting to see if the winds over the airfield dropped enough to within tolerances. Eventually the pilot told us we were going in anyway as the option of returning to bristol, cardiff, whatever was no longer viable because of winds increasing there.

so we plopped down onto the runway, perfect landing, hardly a bump… but couldn’t get onto the stand and when we got off via the steps you could hardly stand up in the strength of the wind.

I talked to the crew and apparently the wind had veered a bit so it was less of a crosswind, otherwise we’d been off to amsterdam or Newcastle or something.

Why not back to Southampton it's closer ...

I’m personally not sure a Red will be issued, impact and certainty would both need to increase to hit that threshold. It may happen somewhere, further north and (or) west,  I doubt it for central southern England.

Just woken up to 11c  and wow everyone under an Amber warning.  Messaged my daughters (Exeter & Port Solent)   telling them to stay in tonight.  Eldest has to drive from Port Solent to Porton for work early tomorrow morning.

Anxiety is on the rise for me,  going to do one more check in garden to make sure everything  is battened down .

    I'm scared too!

Yeah that's a wind warning, not rain. The map is horrendous

Huh but yellow is rain and orange is wind. There is no orange over me.
