  1. don't worry Piers Corbyn says 'snowmaggedon' East Midlands northwards esp east coast in the very first days of Jan! hehehe
  2. thanks BUS. I might just go get earplugs!! Last night windy too so hoping to get better sleep tonight once hubby in from his Glasgow commute at 2am!
  3. Is still pretty windy here. local weather station says wind gusts at 47mph at minute altho we're further up the hill and more exposed. Its rained all day as well so me and kids getting cabin fever. Has the worst passed? Am looking forward to not hearing wind in background even if for an hour!
  4. Merry Christmas everyone! I dont post much but do read every day. You're a funny, helpful and nice bunch. Wind picked up here and lights are flickering. Glad I'm not the husband who has to go out and retrieve presents from the garage
  5. Still snowing here and pretty windy too. Shame it was so wet to start off with otherwise we would've had a good covering of snow by now. Electric went off for while but back on again for now, so am away to fill a flask with water just in case of more power cuts. Happy Birthday Mardatha
  6. Snowing heavily here but not lying as too wet. Really big flakes as well.
  7. Quite excited to wake up to snow that I didn't expect (although I know nothing about forecasting weather but I do read this thread every day!). The husband says there's no snow 1 mile up the road so feeling lucky. 0.5oC here
  8. Good morning all. Another Snow Day for the kids off school. We've had about another 2 inches overnight and it's still snowing. I'll get out later with my measuring tape but I'd say it's about 11inches. Glad to hear some people who thought they'd have no snow got some and fingers crossed for the rest of you
  9. Pictures as promised - this is when we went out for our sledge/walk earlier about 2pm. It was blizzarding and we probably should've waited. It's stopped snowing now. There's 9 inches in the middle of the back garden, more at the sides - yes we are the sad neighbours who go out with a tape measure EVERY time it snows. This is our road with footpath etc, you just can't see it, and there's a lady walking that dog too!
  10. Oh Edinburgh folk, I'll blow some up your way. We're 13 miles to the south and I'd say there is a good 6 inches here. It is coming in sideways and sticking to the side of the house and up the fence. it hasn't stopped since this morning, although not heavy but constant. The kids are dying to go sledging but we're waiting on it to settle. I'll try to get a photo up when we get out. Just come on down the A7 - I'll get the hot chocolate ready!!
  11. It's snowing sidewards here. I wouldn't like to be driving in it. I'd say there was about 4 inches deep here. The kids school is closed so when it settles snowmen and sledging for us!! Enjoy everyone
  12. NOOO, I thought the snow wasn't coming until tonight. We're suppose to be going to Aberdeen for the weekend, heading today from Heriot (Borders) at 3pm and coming back Sunday (but as long as we're back Thursday morning it's fine). Will it be okay to travel do you think? I don't mind being snowed in once there but not in the car with three young kids!!!! Thanks in advance for advice
  13. We got snow after I went to bed. About an inch this morning and still lying. I have now been taught patience. Kids building snowmen in the playground - a lovely sight! Snow tyres are awesome - never really got to try them out last year. Happy model watching to those who know what they're doing and the rest of us happy waiting until the model watchers say SNOW!
  14. I'm off to bed, enjoy the snow those who are getting some (snow that is!). LS - thanks for always explaining the charts, you seem very patient with us newbies. I wondered if you were being sarcastic too but didn't want to ask. Being originally from good ol' Norn Ireland my tendency is to assume most comments are sarcastic.
  15. I can't tell if it's very light drizzle here or tiny tiny snow, but ground very wet. Will have to go to bed soon either way. Hopefully we'll both see snow soon
  16. No snow here School cancelled trip to Borders because of snow that never materialised, sad child today!
  17. Thank you for all the replies, it was about 9.15 when I was coming home. I think it was winter smog, it looked like a thinner slightly higher version of this. http://thehelm.wordpress.com/2010/12/09/denvers-brown-cloudand-geese/ Definitely not hallucigens - too early for that The stupid things that annoy us eh? Minus 5 when kids got to school, all sent directly inside as it's Kilts for Kids day and there were many bare legs! Over on the model thread when they say "in the North" are they talking about Northern England, North as in all of Scotland or north Scotland?
  18. Hi, I'm a lurker as I don't feel I have anything to contribute, but I've come out of lurkerdom as this has been annoying me all day. As I was driving over the hill looking north at Edinburgh there was a long thin greeny/brown cloud stretched over the skyline (east to west), it looked miles long. I can't find out what type of cloud it was and why it was greeny/brown. Do any of you know? Sorry for being random, but you know when something annoys you and you can't get it out of your head. Back on topic - It was -4oC when dropping the kids off at school this morning.
  19. We bought snow tyres too and NOTHING but ..... 4 miles down the road from us are snowed in ARGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
