  1. Inland Somerset perhaps a little warmer at about 24C perfect summer day. Couldn't ask for better
  2. We saw the storms from the west and heard rumbling, but no more than that. No rain here, and even 30 minutes of strong sun at about 1.00 pm but now overcast again.
  3. Rain band did not deliver here overnight. Remaining dry and with varying amount of higher cloud. Warming up currently with areas of thin cloud allowing a degree of filtered sun but rain bearing dark clouds approaching from the south ... May just pass us to the east. A curious day and unsure how it will pan out.
  4. Very murky here too. No sign of any sun today. Periods of light rain. My ACCUWEATHER app says it's sunny so methinks it's time to delete and find a better app.
  5. General upgrade in forecast for period around England Bank holiday weekend. This August, despite last weekend's cool damp drabness, is turning out to be the best in years for these parts.
  6. Never really warmed up here. I think the ridge went a bit further SE than thought. It's been sultry in the a.m. but thinly overcast and little sun; now it's much thicker and showery, with a drop in temperature. No heatwave here only about 22 max and now around 19 with a strong breeze.
  7. Pleasantly warm here but certainly not hot. Some thin cloud reducing strength of sun and warm air but some breeze too. Warmish night last night but slept like a log as that's no problem for me. Decent late summer weather.
  8. Bah! Cloudy here currently and my two days off next week forecast to be cool and cloudy . In office where people want air conditioning and I'm FREEZING when it's lovely and sunny outside. Grrrr
  9. Sun over the Quantocks late morning led to a more serviceable start to the day than originally imagined. Arrival of drizzly periods and grey skies with drop in temperature this afternoon.
  10. forecast for my few days off around the BH now downgraded. Hmmph. Starting to feel summer is ending and that's always a low point for me..... But usually like autumn when it gets going.
  11. If it wasn't above average, then the average would be lower. I can't recall a period in August like this one recently - it must be years ago. All recent Augusts have been cool affairs in these parts, some with rain, and more recently with sun. It feels like old times and I rue the breakdown that is due. My lawn is looking brownish for the first time in years. As regards the arguments about what people do and don't like - let's just accept we're different. I was born in the 1959 heatwave, and my theory is that is why I love hot, sultry weather. I enjoy warm sticky nights and sleep very well. That's why I nip down to the med when I can to get a fair share of continental heat. But others (including my partner) love cooler autumnal days. I know several Dutch people who uniformly love cold winter days with light grey skies. Some feel calm when they hear the rain. Whatever floats your boat.
  12. Fine summer day here from the start. Some periods of cloud but plenty of sun otherwise and about 23C at peak. Warm evening. Lovely.
  13. Bridgwater was breezy and we had loads of cloud yesterday so warm forecast didn't happen, although the clouds finally shifted for the evening. Nice enough to sit out but certainly not the warm summers day we were told to expect. Now we've had three hours of rain which only Mr. Micheal Fish forecast yesterday. Hmmph.
  14. Cold front coming down over Somerset has brought some rain with it which was not forecast by most apps or sites. Currently overcast and steady light rain. Hopefully it'll clear soon but everyone seems caught out by this unexpected damp morning here.
  15. I think we've been luckier in the south-west. Although it's been cool with only the one very short plume last month, we have at least had plenty of sunshine to offset that, and much less rain than the Midlands or north during July. The last few days have been cold and felt more like early autumn, but dry and sunny bar the one soaking last week. Really I could do with some more heat and the next plume looks like being far too short-lived again. I would love a proper heatwave. Glad I had a month off in June down by the med where I had exactly that
  16. Drove back from Oxfordshire to Somerset passing through banks of fog with sun in between - temperature going up and down as a result. Much cooler at home where fog seems to have remained in place all day keeping temperature low enough to need to put on fire.
  17. Heavier rain to east of Somerset late in the afternoon, drier in the west. It seems we were right on the edge of the system and escaped the worst. Mild night now.
  18. Yes here in Somerset the blackberries are quite feeble. Some are ripening but going musty quickly and unpleasant to taste. Not a good year for the brambles. Sloes look good though. Currently shivering, feels more like early November here. It seems like autumn started early August.
  19. Gas fire on last night at request of partner, but certainly no need for central heating yet which only went on in early July to deal with damp rather than cold.
  20. Fine sunny day with strong sunshine allowing warm feel despite slightly crisp breeze. Good to finally experience some proper high pressure weather for the first time in months.
  21. Despite dry and bright forecast it's currently grey and overcast with light spots of rain.
  22. Dullness of skies have been shortening the sense of daylight here. This evening the skies cleared to the west after a very dull Bank holiday allowing some sense that we were still some way off 21st Sept.
  23. Overcast with grey stratus. Rain has started and currently quite heavy although in short bursts. Some brightness on the horizon. Quite cool presently about 15 C.
  24. I would be very interested to hear the recorded totals of actual sunlight this year on a regional basis. My guess is there will be big variations between the west and east.
