  1. Although the air temperature is low 12C the expected cloud layer has dissipated and sun is quite strong, so quite pleasant to sit out despite needing a couple of layers.
  2. I’m aware it didn’t get going for many in the east for several weeks but here in the West Country it was one of the best ever. It started early and June and July were fantastic. But August ended it with a damp squib which was disappointing, especially as that’s when I took a week off. I’m one of those who goes by astronomical dates so for me it’s still summer, and September is doing better than August currently. I too missed thunder. We had a good day in May but after that all thunderstorms stuck in the east.
  3. Next year I’m taking late June off and work through August. We grabbed a nice morning yesterday but most of the time it’s been drab and overcast. Oh well - at least we’re not suffering the severe fires or floods.
  4. For the first time in ages I’m cold enough to need a jumper. Considering putting the fire on as my front room is a bit chilly. What’s the betting September warms up again?
  5. Only reached 18 yesterday in West Somerset/Devon due to cloud and flag. It didn’t rain which was great and views were tremendous- but I’d like a bit of heat back for my holiday. I picked the wrong time to take off.
  6. Disappointing day so far in Somerset with no sign of grey drizzle with breeze stopping despite promise of thundery showers with sunny intervals. Doubly annoying as it was much the same yesterday and it’s the start of my week's holiday
  7. So let me get this straight. No thunderstorms for my area. Rain begins when I get home from work Friday and continues throughout weekend until I go back to work when it turns warm and dry again.
  8. I’m over in the west where it’s not been so hot the last few days. I love the heat. Long evening walks - sunning in the garden - balmy nights. Bring it on. This is the best summer ever. I’ve not been able to take a holiday this year, so I’m overjoyed the Mediterranean summer has come up to us. I know I’m in good health and have friends and close others who hate it and feel unwell, so I’m lucky - I’m also someone who can manage easily in sticky warmth as I’m very happy wearing next to nothing - I get more done and have more energy in weather like this. I’m glad for others that the rain is due this weekend- but did it HAVE to break on my first free weekend at home in a month?
  9. Well I’m enjoying the weather so far. This is the best late Spring/early summer I can recall for some years. Long may it continue.
  10. Somerset has been good with unexpected highs early afternoons but otherwise I’d say this has been a period of moderately above average here, rather than the heat the SE has experienced. Basically very nice Spring weather but not summery yet as that slight ‘bight’ remains in the air.
  11. Sun to start with but the line of storms is already coming our way. Bright to the north but dark to the south with 100 per cent cloud. Apparently it will be sunny once the storms pass.
  12. I can’t quite believe the forecasts for next week.
  13. The best days so far here have been workdays apart from Sunday 24th with relentless grey or rain every weekend otherwise, which has rather affected our view of Spring so far. Although it’s milder it doesn’t feel springlike yet. Yesterday we were under the cloud so only reached about 12 and today we’re just off the edge of blue further southwest. Hopefully some improvements mid week are due.
  14. Thanks for the stats. It's been deeply disappointing this August in Somerset with minimal sunshine and plenty of cloud and drizzle. At least we've avoided the flash floods but I for one feel cheated after a false start.
  15. I'm pretty sure we had an unusual split in the country early to mid July where the east got more rain than the west. Certainly in Somerset despite periods of rain we've had some serviceable summery weather during June and early July. Only since then has it deteriorated to the grot we have now.
  16. It's been nice up to now but it seems to be fading now. Rain and cool for the foreseeable future.
  17. We seemed stuck under a line of showers, meaning quite solid rain with only brief interludes until about an hour ago. Finally clearing up but very cool at about 13 degrees.
  18. Spots of rain and Matt grey skies in mid-Somerset. Full day of rain yesterday. This doesn't fit the forecast I was given. I wonder what happened?
  19. Lovely sunny start to the day but cloud increased and is now more or less full cover. Still mild but possibly a little cooler than this morning.
  20. My moan is that this keeps happening midweek when I'm stuck in the office.
  21. A grey sunless day, dry after initial rain overnight. Quite mild at about 18C.
  22. The front still has some rain attached to it, albeit light now, as it's over me as we speak. After a warm morning the temperatures have dropped a degree or two, but once the front passes should go back up again to about 21.
