South East England/East Anglia Regional Weather Discussion 30/01/14

You know I was saying the other day it's almost like Winter has forgotten to arrive and April has come round with all the showers, rainbows and odd weather. I'm still optimistic we'll see snow, as I've said before it's not uncommon to get it in March and even April. FWIW, I think people flouncing for being asked to post remotely on topic is a bit unnecessary, it's why the mods have created an off topic section after all, it's not like you can't post your musings elsewhere. We all go off topic to some degree and that's why a little OT stuff is allowed on here. It's not like we're in the MOD thread here and I love this thread for that.! And yes I realise that last paragraph is OT but what can I say? I am a hypocrite- 1,255 replies

Well there is only one thing for it on an evening like this. Stick the heating on, curl up with something terribly comforting and calorie laden and then snuggle up in bed listening to the rain on the window.- 1,255 replies

Chill out people (no pun intended) we've seen snowfall in March and April in quite recent years. Need I remind you of tbe March snowfall that brought the SE to a standstill a few years back.

Of course, Ryan. I adore snow and lampost watch with everyone else. And if you're happy to stay up and watch for one flake, then fair enough. All I'm saying is it will be a few flakes if we're lucky. I'm not putting a downer on things, if anything I'm being realistic and not making this into something it's not thus ending in disappointment.I'd love to see a full on blizzard, but based on NW history people have stayed up and been knackered and frustrated in the morning when the chances of snow have been far, far higher than tonight.I love snow, but staying up to maybe see a flake seems nonsensical to me. But I genuinely do wish all those who are staying up success and I would love to be proved wrong.

Really don't get why people are wasting time wanting to stay up, even IF it does snow, it's going to be no more than a brief dusting which will melt quickly. I'd rather conserve myself and sleep so I can go to work tomorrow rather than be exhausted in the morning. Where did you go MK?

I dunno, I mean even if we did get snow (and even when it s forecast it often doesn't happen), the ground is too wet for it to lay, I think.

Nice brief, little storm there. Was like being in a car wash for a few minutes, few flashes in the distance. Nothing special, but certainly a perk! Almost derecho like! -

I swear I recall Humble or someone saying that it's actually us the takes red squirrel habitat, not the greys. That reds and greys can live well together in areas where habitat isn't threatened. Goes to google to double check. Edit: Yes. Red squirrels favour habitats that are often destroyed for farmland, whereas greys tend to favour dense woodland. As grey squirrels are more adaptable they cope better with habitat loss. Both types live harmoniously in protected habitat areas. -

Can you imagine if that happened here? I would be like a kid in a candyshop and The Daily Express would spontaneously combust. -

Hoping for a change from the wind and rain now. Hopefully it will turn colder so I can take delight in coming home, sticking on the fire and getting under the blanket. Also it would be lovely if the gritters forgot to go out one night and we had a huge snowstorm meaning everyone gets a snowday.- 833 replies
