  1. Amsterdam's all time record gone, 35c at Schiphol Airport.

    1. Scorcher

      Scorcher

surprised it's not higher given it's on the continent

    2. 95 Degrees

      95 Degrees

Amsterdam is quite far north, similar latitude to Birmingham. also not far from the usually frigid north sea coast.

  2. Loving that American Climate! Frigid temperatures in the NE corridor whilst Seattle breaks it's all time February record, was 22C there yesterday!

    1. Summer Sun

      Summer Sun

Yep today's high in New York is forecast to be minus 6c, Sundays high is forecast to be minus 10c and minus 17c Sunday night brrrrrr

  3. Anyone else enjoying this start to Autumn, it still kinda feels like a cooler/average summer day in a way with high minimums and temperatures in the high teens, personally I'm preferring it to October 2011 because that spell felt wasted in October after a poor summer, warmer weather in Autumn feels more satisfying personally after a good summer because it feels less thrown in to show what we would've had in the summer.

It's a pretty good bonus on top of an already good summer.

19C here already and we're not even at midday!

    4. Bottesford

      Bottesford

I'm enjoying it - as is my garden! Things are still ripening out there which is great after the very slow start to the season this year! If we can keep it till 3rd week of Oct that'd do me...

  4. This summer just gets better and better, crazy rain here tonight, plume next week and MAYBE another after that, this is turning into a pretty epic summer.

You're crazy but I love you for that.

  5. Phoenix, Death Valley and Vegas are all very close to their all-time records and should at least beat their June records, really intense heat this early on in summer.

    1. 95 Degrees

      95 Degrees

      man that's cold, lol.

  6. Liking this mild overcast almost humid feel to the weather currently, it makes the cloudy weather more tolerable and no coat needed.

    1. Milhouse

      Milhouse

Liking it too as it stays mild into the evening.

    2. Bottesford

      Bottesford

Yeah loving it too - 17c at 9:30pm and everything smells lovely and fragrant in the garden. Window open tonight - love warm evenings!

      95 Degrees

Yes it is great to have a still and mild night where can sit and enjoy the night time vibe.

  7. What did I say in early March, a pattern change in Mid-April I think it is quite likely looking at the GFS, this pattern can't keep it up much longer.

Someone said easter weekend, wasn't you was it ;)

    2. 95 Degrees

      95 Degrees

No, I'm surpised someone said the cold would end that early.

    3. Scorcher

      Scorcher

A lot of the coldies were very bullish about this continuing but it's obvious you're fighting a losing battle to keep the cold uppers with such strong sunshine at this time of year

  8. Been a terrible year for thunderstorms, like 2010 all over again, another typical post 2006 summer, second half was fine though hopefully this winter offers some real interest.

    1. I Cumbria Marra I

      I Cumbria Marra I

Second half was just as bad as the first here

    2. Scorcher

      Scorcher

The UK has always been poor for thunderstorms I'm afraid

    3. Alex

      Alex

Second half was ok, decent is being kind!

  9. 40C in parts of Southern France, now 4 years in a row that 40C has been recorded at least once each year, quite unusual to say the least.

    1. Eugene

      Eugene

I wish you would go and live in southern france and stop trolling info not related to the UK, unusual we havent had a hot summer since 2006 isnt it

But the status is about the weather though Eugene on what is an WEATHER forum! Certainly no troll.

  10. Really nice to see a nice pleasant August for a change, almost like how August's used to be, all models look warm for the next week and Western Europe is settling down after the unsettled start.

GFS 18z is one of the best runs i've ever seen, Very Hot indeed over Spain/France and even S.England could easily see 30+C in that setup, but I still expect a downgrade at some point.

    4. Milhouse

      Milhouse

I have worn shorts for much of the last 3 weeks. I could count on one hand the amount of times i could do that last summer.

  11. Spain going through a heatwave at the moment, with 44C in Cordoba, Europe's answer to Phoenix.

  12. If this August was like 1998, I would pretty much forgive the summer, but it'll just be another O.K at best August, so I likely won't.

    1. Thundery wintry showers

      Thundery wintry showers

I'd probably say the same if I was living down south- up here August 1998 was a fairly dry but cloudy/cool/breezy month though!

    2. 95 Degrees

      95 Degrees

True, August 98 was a North/South split month.

    3. Aaron

      Aaron

For warmth, August 1997 was better here with temperatures reaching 30C (a rare occurrence in August these days despite it holding the record for virtually everywhere)

  13. Yet another heatwave in the U.S, this time in the Great Plains, Oklahoma City could get up to 44C, just 1C off the record.

    1. karyo

      karyo

Let's hope the record won't be broken

      Eugene

So glad i live here and not the US, dangerous twisters and heat, dangerous countryside with all kind of nasties and beasts that can kill you

    3. Nick L

      Nick L

*cries* It's forecasted to hit 45c on Wednesday.

  14. The above average summer in Alberta continues, and after a mild winter, this must be one of the most warmest years (so far) in for a while?

    1. Aaron

      Aaron

Winnipeg in Manitoba is very warm too, sunshine all week with temperatures in the high 20's and low 30's.. this has been going on for a while now.

    2. Eugene

      Eugene

Yeah seems like everyone is enjoying a very warm dry summer apart from us

    3. 95 Degrees

      95 Degrees

North America is general has had a warm year, apart from the pacific coast, unfortunately that includes places like Nunavut, which can't be good for sea ice.

  15. That heat over France looks so juicy.

  16. Just came back from a lovely Hot holiday in Sicily, good to see that things are warming up here, happy days.

  17. 36C in Eastern Sicily forecasted for Sunday P:M, Can't wait now.

  18. 7 days till I head off to Sicily, can't wait to feel what 30C feels like again!

  19. 27C in Seville and just 22C in Faro, well below average and an incredible contrast from last week!

27c is better than what we have, after the 40c heat of last week they'll be glad of a cool down

    3. Scorcher

      Scorcher

I've just checked and it's 30C in Seville right now so perhaps not as cool as we first thought

    4. Summer Sun

      Summer Sun

mid to high 30's forecast this week with 39c for Wednesday

  20. Severe heatwave in Central U.S with highs of 108F in St Louis and a tied record of 105F in Denver.

  21. There are some seriously high heat index in parts of Southern France with 40-42C in places, should bode very well for storms in the Bay Of Biscay with alot of unstable air attacking that very humid air, also very hot over Spain so the next couple days are going to be very interesting for thunder, hopefully the storms will cross the channel as there is a lot of potential.

    1. Summer Sun

      Summer Sun

Tomorrow will be the last chance for storms friday it looking much more unsettled with wind, gales and rain sweeping in with cold air pushing the warmth back into Europe

  22. http://www.uvawareness.com/ Just thought I'd recommend this it's a useful site for UV in your area.
  23. Some very hot weather to come for Sevilla for the next few days with temperatures touching 39-43C, that heat will move up with 34-39C across much of South-Western Europe and will be with in the SE later in the week.

      95 Degrees

Try telling that to 65% of the world, they exprience that every summer, must annoy the non-heat fans but they adapt to it I suppose.

    4. Aaron

      Aaron

I know plenty of people in the US who experience high 90's every summer, and they absolutely detest it.. they certainly are used to it, but that doesn't mean they like it.

  24. Hot day across the U.S NE today, with temperatures in the mid/high 30's which is almost record breaking for June, adds to a very above average 6 months for the U.S.

Count me in the minority then! I'm pretty sure a poll about temperatures of -10C in winter would produce a similar number, if not more 'hate it' responses!
