  1. Damn right it's not what is going on with this weather. Seems we only have one season particularly in Scotland permanent early Autumn.
  2. Falkirk 14c Paris 750miles south 12c..theres something no right there!
  3. Lets face it. It's not looking good at all at present. The current mild temperatures are set to continue for at least two weeks. Beyond that there is still no sign of winter.
  4. Well I think we will have to wait until the end of December. I don't expect any snow for the whole of November even on the mountains. This is a difficult pattern to shift and could take weeks. There will be no dramatic change this year. 14c in Polmont and it's November the 10th Crazy! Overall I am going for a milder than average winter! Polmont November 10th 2011 -Temp 13.8c June 2011 Maximum temperature = 14.5°C on day 05 at time 15:16 Wonder if we will be warmer in November than on June 5th?
  5. correct it's the butterfly effect. Everything in nature is triggered by something changing not forward planning. Unfortunately the old wives tales are just tales.
  6. Ok we all need to find comfort somewhere with this mild crapp!
  7. Either that or they didn't get callenders from Santa! :smilz38: I read somewhere that Geese only travel when the wind is in their back. The date of arrival depends on the wind change and not the temperature. They have to wait longer some years for a North Westerly to push them to Scotland.
  8. I don't think there will be any snow in November other than the high tops. In fact it might even be the only November in a decade without a drop of snow on the Munros!
  9. I am more inclined to agree with the mountain forecast as they are usually bang on. No snow even for the high peaks. Mild then colder but dry is the outlook. Could be the first time the hills have been bare for the whole of November! Planning Outlook: All mountain areas of Britain from Thursday, 10th November, 2011 For much of the next 10 days winds will blow from between south and east bringing generally above average temperatures. Atlantic fronts will occasionally try and push in from the west but will weaken as they do so. One of these will bring damp weather particularly to western ranges on Thursday and into Friday before a slightly more organised band of rain and gale force southeast winds extends north late Friday. Subsequently high pressure over the north and east of Europe should bring drier air with a better chance of sunshine returning. However still a threat of some showery rain reaching mainly the Welsh mountains from the south at times
  10. I think it's called wishfull thinking! I have seen no evidence with half a dozen charts and half a dozen different forecasts.
  11. Probably been mentioned before. The first snow of winter they pointed to on the mountain near Braemar Cairngorms. Was in actual fact a patch from last year. The fresh snow we had two weeks ago was superficial and has all gone. So there is no forst winter snow left on the mountains. I was up Cairngorm yesterday never seen it so bare!
  12. Did anyone cringe at Kate Humble describing a snow patch on the "Will it snow programme" last night as the first snow of winter. It was in actual fact left over from last years snow and the patch has been well documented. You would think they would do some research.
  13. Well just goes to show the weather up here is totally different sometimes. Our November was average or below for 2010 then very below in the last quarter.
  14. And what's even weirder. I felt that the start of November 2010 was extremely mild at the time. Now I would kill for a 5c lower average than today.
  15. Not anything like this mild (See local weather for Polmont Scotland) Averages\Extremes for day :03 2011 Nov ------------------------------------------------------------ Average temperature = 12.3°C Averages\Extremes for day :03 Nov 2010 ------------------------------------------------------------ Average temperature = 7.5°C That's nearly 5c warmer this year!!
  16. Excellent how did you get this I couldn't find historical data?
  17. Partly true but winter arrives in Scotland in mid November not mid December. From my not perfect memory I always remember getting our first snows in November and also making ice runs on the pavement. The last 20 years or so November has become more like Autumn but it wasn't always the case. Apart from last year which was unusual in the current cycle November snow has now become as rare as hens teeth. Go back 20 years and there was at least 2 or 3 days of snow in November and at least a week of frost. The reason I remember is partly my Birthday 13th November and my dad telling me there was a severe snow storm the day I was born 1969. December maybe the official start of winter but it's a bit like saying March is Spring and not expecting snow. We get some of our worst snow in March in Scotland.
  18. Not Scientific but see below: Cairngorm Ski Centre November 9th 2010 http://www.winterhig...p?21,2010-11-09 November 3rd 2011 see link - http://www.winterhig...ngorm-mountain/
  19. Anyway I think we will have a typical winter. Mild with the occasional cold snap say 70/30 mild/cold. So Snow will come but maybe last a week at most. I think an above average or average winter temperature is on the cards. In any case as a skiier. Scotland seems to do better for snow above 2500ft when we have this type of freeze thaw. Last year was a real disappointment for us skiiers. All the snow came in December. The season just about finished in March and what was left was just a few patchy runs. Previously there has been little snow at ground level but up there it has been powder in April when we have a mixed winter. Better to have the winter over 3-4 months than all in one month.
  20. I think that was a concorde moment for him ....right over his head!
  21. You are probably right but there did seem to be a general feeling of ...Hey it happened the last two years so we will predict it again type thing. The thing that I have noticed which is different to November 2010. The average October temperatures were much lower last year and then November 2010 the daily highs and averages even at the start of November were nowhere even near the crazy temps going about just now. It's funny how memory plays tricks ,as I would have said November 10 was similar to just now. It was only when I went back and checked the local weather the temps were roughly 3c colder even at the start of the month. The cold snap came on the back of averages about 3-4c then it dropped to -3c in the last week. The average today is 9c and at the moment it's 16c. We can safely say it will be roughly 12-14c for the next week at least. So the pattern is different this year.
  22. Very good. Historically we have had snow and ice in November so as far as I am concerned the middle of November is winter!
  23. Remember this one? This guys got to be a berry counter or something. Think he just makes it up! James Madden, of Exacta Weather, said: 'I expect to see the first signs of some moderate to heavy snowfalls as early as October or November in certain parts of the UK. Well there was 2 days of heavy snow 3500ft up Glencoe and Cairngom does that count!
